It was surprising to discover how many VTubers are just like me, can read hiragana and katakana no problem, can memorize words and understand sentence structure and the spoken language just fine, but cannot read kanji. I am completely baffled by kanji, I don't know how anyone does it.

Imagine if every other word was replaced with an emoji, and you had to guess whether the emoji was pronounced as a Latin prefix or the English word. So a dog emoji could be either “canine” or “dog”.
That’s basically it. Not too hard, but I’m also an autist who laughs at jokes about Latin and forgets why people don’t find them funny.

Start with simple kanji get used to them
Don't forget to write them, learn strokes order and radicals
I recommend these kanji (kun'yomi is in hiragana and on'yomi is in katakana)

人 ひと/ジン,ニン a person
男 おとこ/ダン a man
女 おんな/ジョ a woman
子 こ/シ a child
日 ひ/ニチ,ジツ day, sun
月 つき/ゲツ,ガツ moon, ガツ is for counting months
時 とき/ジ time, ジ is for counting hours
火 ひ/カ fire
水 みず/スイ water
土 つち/ド dirt
木 き/モク tree
風 かぜ/フウ wind
金 かね/キン money, gold
空 そら/クウ sky
山 やま/サン mountain
川 かわ/セン river
雨 あめ/ウ rain
花 はな/カ flower

Try to learn that and after kanji will become easier
I recommend learning n5 kanji after that

You just need to know what they represent and how are formed kanji
When they created kanji they used several method
Pictogram like 山
Combine two meaning 休 meaning "rest" formed with 人 and 木
But most kanji are formed with a radical and a part that gives the on'yomi or something close
For example 相 you can find this in 想 and that just means they have the same on'yomi which is ソウ

Learnt it by force playing vns with only partial voicing. Picked up what some meant from the voiced parts, others by assuming by context and being correct when I looked it up and some just having to look it up. My brain is not wired for symbol languages
I can speak and listen for japanese but It's literally impossible for me to remember which squiggly lines correlate to which word and 4 different meanings.
I speak some french and some spanish so i'm not terminally retarded.
My brain is just wired not for quick recall memory but for cognition, problem solving and the ability to tell when people are lying about bullshit, see politicians.
I wont lie, it is pretty nice to be able to learn things from watching other people, so I can watch someone kick a brick wall break their foot and say ouch, I dont need to kick a brick wall myself to figure it out like 90% of humanity.

This kanji have 2 japanese reading おりるmeaning to go down/get out for a car or a mountain for example and ふる meaning to fall for rain or snow
