Alright, so just skipping ahead to xformers 0.0.18 works well enough since Colab comes with torch 2.0.0 by default now. I'll fix that in a moment.

Installing accelerate worked with no issue, but I still don't get what it's actually supposed to do. Has anyone tried this "alternative" to xformers?

I have. There are two versions of it, both increase inference performance. --sdp-opt-attention is very similar to xformers (in that it causes gens to be non deterministic) but just as fast, or maybe even a little bit faster.
There is a second version --opt-sdp-no-mem-attention which is just as fast as xformers, without causing non-deterministic gens. Accelerate auto compiles models with dynamo/inductor, which also improves inference performance.

Colab/Colab Pro performance is the same - you get the same 16 GB Tesla T4 to play with halfway between a 2060 Super and a 2080 for all intents and purposes. Downclocked-ish 2080 GPU I think. But 16 GB VRAM.
Only thing Pro gets you is those 50 hrs of guaranteed availability and the ability to use a VM with ~25 GB system memory and to pay extra shekels /hr to use a 40GB A100 or whatever that thing is called.

You are indeed correct, I've no bloody idea lol. From what the other anon mentioned, "accelerate" only works on Linux or with WSL anyways - and from what brief amount I've read myself, it sounds like it's more beneficial for inference/training than generating images.

Torch 2.0 with --opt-sdp-no-mem-attention or --opt-sdp-attention should be an improvement though.

Got no idea if/how they play nice with things like --medvram.

Back to making sure I can launch accelerate properly for everyone.

It shouldn't in theory. the things involving Torch 2.0 speed up inference time, which should be pretty universal across graphics cards. As someone who generates on a 3070 max q, it increased my speeds on every other sampler besides 2m karras which had very modest increases. SDE Karras which used to take 5-7 seconds per iteration now only takes 1. It's optimized everything to be about the same speed or better than 2M Karras

"LoRA_Fix" is a go - I'm on the latest commit and generating with "old" LoRA weights with seemingly no issues.

Testing a few more things and taking hard hat haato down. Colab will have the hll4-p3-ep8 models I uploaded in a bit as well.

LoRA weights changed in a "seed breaking" way about a week ago.

I wrote a kludge that will just download the old versions of those two files and dump them into your Colab so you can still use the latest commit until something else changes that relies on the "new" way LoRA weight are applied - at which point, I probably don't care. because I don't use LoRA. away!
