tag you're looking for there is 'skindentation'. Works well with 'thick thighs'.
Upscaler is accessed by ticking the radio button labeled 'Hires Fix' just below your CFG slider. Your VRAM and GPU will be the limiting factors in terms of how much you can upscale. Upscaling is much more resource intensive than base image generation. I would suggest starting with Latent Antialiased as your upscaler, an upscale ratio of 1.5, and a step count of 1/2 of your sampler steps.
The proper number of sampling steps is dependent on your sampler. Euler samplers are usually 40-50 steps. DPM samplers usually run about half of that. I personally use 24 sampler steps on DPM++ SDE and 10 upscale steps.

I think I went through a training arc this is culmination of what I learned this week
OpenPose, regional mapper, latent coupling. Plus I spend yesterday doing a crash coarse on merging models. I get it now, all the coded model names, it all makes sense now. You can try the Tiled VAE function from the multidiffusion extension out since it'll reduce VRAM usage during Hi-Res Fix. The default settings are fine - I think I also ticked the color fix one.

Very generalized: anything above 768x768 is automatically past "diminishing returns", because 768x768 is where it starts. ControlNet might let you get away with more, but only if you're running canny/HED on something already fairly detailed. openpose-ing at 1024x1536 or something is going to look like shit.
Hi-Res Fix: going above 2x is kind of silly. You'll get better results beyond that using SD Upscale. Like the other anon said, the only thing technically stopping you is VRAM. No reason you can't e.g. let 4x-AnimeSharp do its FULL 4x upscale and then have SD Hi-Res Fix that directly instead of "do I look like I'm made out of GDDR6X?"

not really. SD2.1 was trained on 768x768 images - nothing we use here is SD2.1 - it's all NAI / SD1.4/SD1.5 shit but really it's all practically NAI shit

when you go beyond 512x512 that is technically where "pushing it" starts. it still works just fine at 512x768. works fine-ish 768x768 depending on what you're prompting.

I think I got most of what you suggested. I downloaded 4x animeSharp and now I can use it as HiResFix in txt2img or in img2img via the settings. Also watched a video explaining up scaling, I can additionally send the images over to extra to increase to absurd res though it won't necessarily improve the picture quality or composition but if I want bigger pictures that's an option.

I guess I can add up scaling to what learned this week,but I'm calling it a day, I'll make merge models tomorrow at work. Thanks for your help.
