Clips is what introduces me to new vtubers, and eventually, chuubas that play games that I myself have played. Managed to find a JP chuuba that played the entire Halo series which led me to subscribe to her channel. she's now my oshi

Search for "vtuber plays" x game where x is anything you want to see played. It's how I discovered Shiki and Mew Horizon. This is the best method because you'll watch a VOD to decide whether the vtuber is the right one for you.

Also, there's a thread on /wsg/ about Vtubers, it's a good place to find recommendation. Find some clips you think are funny/interesting, then check the vtubers featured there

Small corpo's are kinda a good start even small corpo nowaday has stacked audition which usually leads to fairly good/competent members. Many of these small corpo's have great scouting but absolutely garbage management. I follow many even after the corpo collapsed if I like them. Small corpo/indies circle are pretty open with each other and frequently open to interaction or collabs, as they are all eager to grow. That leads to making it easier to find girls I like and click with.

You browse /vt/ and check the threads for small corpos and big indies and see who catches your attention.
It can be based on their design or the discussion surrounding her, just listen to what people say and if a vtuber sounds interesting check her out.
Sometimes you might see a new vtuber in a collab too.
You can also just train your twitch algorithm and let it auto recommend you some. I've found a few good ones that way.
