It can still be worth buying coins, just slightly less of it. Very much depends on level of wealth, funds that you can flip are going to be expensive and a 20% fee, most are longer term growth which isn't fully ideal for people not already in the top 50 for gains. From past RR you can easily achieve up to 200m in coin trading each week (depending on networth), but for people with a lot more money a healthy investment in funds would be higher than their coin trading, however coin trading is still worth to some degree even for them.

Once you acquire the "short" coins from the broker you have to trade them normally. Getting 10k coins would take forever to sell, and then take forever to buy back at a lower price before the due date.
The trick to shorting here is buying enough that you can sell in a 1-2 day spike, then buy back over another 1-2 days after the spike before the contract expires in a week, for example.
I would propose that shorting is treated sort of like funds where you can only make short transactions once a day.
