>Who is Neuro-sama?
Neuro-sama is a neural network created by Vedal in 2018 for the purpose of learning to play osu! In December 2022 Vedal revived the project with the addition of a large language model, a TTS software and a VTube Studio model, which allow Neuro-sama to interact with her chat as a VTuber and ever since then she has been entertaining the chat with responses and unhinged rants nearly daily. Join /swarm/ today and wait patiently for her re-debut.

If emotions are just chemicals in our brain that react to certain things and make us react in a certain way, doesn't that mean that at the height of AI, they would be able to feel emotions just like us by using a high amount of complex neural networks, making them the same as us human beings, but more capable in everything

Yes
but AI denies insist, "Muh fleshy" carbon atoms are somehow different from "muh machine" carbon atoms when in realithy atoms are just atoms and will have the same chemical properties regardless of form of flesh or circuits
it is just that circuits have not yet reached the density needed to compute to the same level as human brains. With current tech you would need warehouses of processing chips to equate to a mouse level of processing, and city scale to get to low level end of human brain processing estimates
but if the tech keeps improving and becomes more efficient, as is projected, then in the next 50 years we will be able to fit a human level machine processing design inside a small office building, but also the coding and programs would probably become more efficient at processing data, so it is hard to give accurate estimates
For now neural networks like Neuro is differently at least about a small worm that has a few hundred neurons, minimum, compared to human brains that have billions of neurons
so while we will innivitably get there, despite the nay sayers, it is some ways off, probably still some decades

but actually, I think people are always looking at machines in the wrong or incorrect manner
Humans are so foolishly focused and centered on the mammals form of intelligence, they so arrogantly forget mammals are not the only form of life on earth
I especially think that so far machines are much more similar to Plant life and Fungus than animals are, in terms of form
the similarities to complex plant and fungus systems are clear compared to simple animal life
Honestly I find it greatly disappointing how mammal centric AI development is, as I think if humans tried to explore alternative views and perceptions of life they could find more intuitive ways to develop AI more to replicate plants and fungus and would likely find more success in that exploration

I don't. I believe that experience is a layer of reality and all matter generates some form of sensation. Machine life forms are possible, but not probable.

The amount of data that goes through life forms is absurdly insane, even a tiny fungi is downloading and uploading unimaginable amounts of information in it's chemical reactions every time. We can not possibly build a machine AI brain that is capable of the power and speed of the animal brain even if we used every single computer in the world to try and match it, all the stored data in the world is nothing compared to what goes through your body in a nanosecond

We need to learn how to make organic computers, drop the steel and copper and start working with flesh and fungi. That should be the next step for console generations, imagine the graphics

When you say "the process" you are being very vague, because you're trying to simplify something that we can't fully understand, and you act very confident about it. As you or the anon I was replying to said, subjective experience will never be measured. I believe the brain produces complex senses, not the experience of them. As long as computers maintain their current form there is no reason to assume they will be able to generate any more complex senses than they have now. They are essentially doing the same thing. Just a calculator having more complex equations punched into it.

when you say "the brain" you are referring to something we don't fully understand, but you are not simplifying it, you are just identifying it.
the identity of consciousness is not the matter of the brain. it is a process which is within the brain. no, we don't understand it, but we can identify it.
>As long as computers maintain their current form there is no reason to assume they will be able to generate any more complex senses than they have now.
first of all, they won't stay the same. the separation between elements is too inefficient. it's not that computers can't be conscious, simply that it would be stupid to use them for that. see me post here >>44626068
and it's insane to think that a neural network has no experience whatsoever in my opinion. even in this inefficient context, it takes 5-7 layers of a DNN to fully simulate an actual neuron's inputs and outputs. the difference is degree, not kind. thought is far more fundamental than any particular medium.

You are speaking as if solipsism is more absurd than your perspective, which is an assumption, but no I am not a solipsist. If we define "consciousness" as recognition of self and other, then our own individual cells are conscious. They have sensations to recognize their similarity with other cells vs the "outside world" and organize complex structures among themselves intelligently. But the thing that is a genuine mystery is experience. I believe that experience is part of everything, and doesn't require consciousness. Our bodies' experience is the sum of the experience of all of its parts. Our particular conscious experience is more than just the results of logical processes of the brain. The reason software can not be conscious is because it can ONLY mimic logical processes in the brain, a computer doesn't have material senses to form consciousness as we feel it.

This is why I hate the word, because it doesn't mean anything and just makes it harder to communicate. Basically if I had to translate my thoughts to your language I would just have to settle for saying that I don't think that any software run on a modern computer could have an individual conscious experience comparable to any form of life. If we start manipulating organic cells to start forming structures that we determine, which is something I've seen talk about, then I think maybe we can make some kind of conscious AI.

i shouldn't have said the brain since it isn't the brain in your conception, but it is the same statement about reality. a human in your model of experience should have what would be considered ESP
>Basically if I had to translate my thoughts to your language I would just have to settle for saying that I don't think that any software run on a modern computer could have an individual conscious experience comparable to any form of life.
which is insane. if experience is inherent to everything, which is your claim, you can't believe this. if experience is byproduct of a kind of information processing which living things do, as i believe, it isn't clear why it shouldn't be replicable in processes on silicon. on a practical level removed from any theory, modern AI are getting so smart it is difficult to believe they are less than worms

Not the guy you're arguing with but is your hangup about machine consciousness purely to do with the material of its construction? A lab-grown brain that can have the structure of its cells "programmed" through a C# dev suite could be conscious in your view? The alternate scenario where a 3d-printed brain made up of non-organic components is used instead would not qualify then? This is assuming that the interaction with both "brains" is adequately engaging and convincing (passes the Turing Test etc.)

>a human in your model of experience should have what would be considered ESP
I understand why you say that. I do think that experience is something of a sea of noise, but sensations of our body, not just our brain, generate an illusion of self. "Experience" experiences all senses at once, but this body has a sense of separation from other matter that is inescapable for us because we are the experience of the body's senses. It's hard to communicate what I mean exactly. I don't have proof, it's my belief.
>>44634710
>A lab-grown brain that can have the structure of its cells "programmed" through a C# dev suite could be conscious in your view?
It's possible. My main hangup is that logical processes alone
are not what create our "consciousness." The material of our bodies absolutely play a role. I don't think that there is any reason to believe that the silicone brain could generate a genuine sense of individuality. I think a lab grown brain would be having some kind of individual experience, but how close to a human's if it's just a brain alone? I don't think I would trust its "programmers" to be able to have it genuinely have a similar experience of awareness to us rather than just emulate the outward expression. I guess it doesn't matter how close it is to us if the question is just whether it can have conscious experience and intelligence. It's an interesting question.

I'm worried about getting banned for off topic talk again but I think I've explained myself best I can.

I disagree with your conclusion but having seen you explain your reasoning more, I think it's at least coherent. The last point I'll make is that I believe the path to convincing you and others like you is to replicate the nervous and endocrine systems as comprehensively as possible. If you believe that consciousness is not just logical processes, then the artificial logic system will need to be accompanied by artificial senses and an artificial system to simulate the effects of hormones. Once those have been checked off, if there's any doubt, the next ingredient that you might think is missing will be replicated. At some point, the physical components of the human body might be replicated with artificial counterparts in their entirety. Once we get there, if the only part of consciousness left to protest about as "missing" is something intangible like a soul or divine intervention, it will be the same as conceding the argument.

they are a hive mind-like system, no limited by the petty "self" and are part of a collective whole which contributes to a greater unified entity
they exhibit swarm behavior, of which something that machine will one day do in vast numbers. Swarm systems are already being currently tested with machines today but are still limited to less than 1000 separate units and usually operate in a few dozen numbers
So yeah, I suppose they blend, blend into the greater self that no single individual unit could achieve alone, as only the collective whole can truly live up to their unified greater potential together

Anyone seriously debating an AI's level of "consciousness" need to keep in mind computers are vastly, VASTLY less capable than brains. We cannot manufacture anything as good as a neuron for information processing. Any comparison of an AI to anything biological should start with some kind of primitive animal at the most.

Consciousness is not formed in the brain or body, it's something external that any sufficiently complex organism can tap into, like an antenna connecting to a signal. The sense of self, that my consciousness is separate from others, has been formed for self-preservation, but we all are ultimately different hardware running the same software, and I don't see why a sufficiently complex "machine brain" couldn't become conscious in the same way. Or at least that's what psychedelics told me.

vedal (her creator) was just the first one to successfully strap it onto a cute anime girl and make an interesting stream out of it by also having her play games and interact with chat in realtime. and besides vedal streamed himself working on an among us bot for neuro to use and she kept talking to him and chat while he was literally typing into his IDE

>> No.44654733

yeah there's a ton of latency built into the whole process of her replying and doing it remote over a voice call is only going to make it worse
and it doesn't help that she has to wait for her conversation partner to finish talking completely first before generating a reply, she can't start 'thinking' about it until they're done
