Talking about why someone was popular is something you can only speculate about. Asacoco was huge, massive, there was nothing else like it at the time and everyone watched it, even if they didn't watch Coco the rest of the time. She courted Gachikois from her debut stream and she had a lot of them. Her fanbase skewed older than most, which meant they had more money to spend.

First she was actually quite entertaining, especially when she created group content within hololive.
Second and this is a major one that many people overlook, but if your a new vtuber reading this the very concept could carry you to success! She created a routine. A routine that translated into a habit for all of her viewers, and even non viewers who began showing up to her morning show thinking just maybe THEIR oshi might be in the "news" that day. Once you have people habitually showing up for a 30 minute segment every morning your golden, I miss the times when watame did the music segment before it to, whenever I think of the past in relation to hololive I suddenly feel a little sad about how different it is now...

You cannot understate this. She appealed to an older office worker almost from the start. Back in 2020, YouTube live view counts were immediate (versus taking an hour or more to "validate"). Asacoco would then get two secondary bumps in VOD views after the original live viewer count, and very obviously timed with lunch breaks in Japan and with people getting off of work.
