There's actually a surprising lack of design and effort that goes into most male vtubers. I think that might be a lot of what contributes to the struggle that so many talk about in that space. Female models (and hence babis to a degree I guess) at least tend to have somewhat elaborate and dynamic models or designs. They stand out even when their content doesn't.

If you're generic hoodieman #241 then its going to be really hard to pick you out of a crowd. I get it that a lot of guys picking those sorts of models are probably side-rebirthing (picking a model that mimics their actual self) but then it also projects out in the content. What you meant as "casual" typically comes off as tired or disinterested and the tone and tenor comes off as bored and sleepy. Definitely the opposite of engaging content.

That's not to say there isn't a market for quiet and comfy from male streamers. But quiet and comfy should still be inviting and engaging not "bored gamer sighs into mic for 3 hours and then logs out in silence." If you're trying to go for the friend-space aesthetic at least be the fun friend that's cool to hang out with instead of the depressed kid you bring along to force them to make friends.

So I recommend installing VRoid yourself, it gives some interesting insights. The reason why a lot of males are hoodie vroids is because it's one of the preset options of vroid. The people who use a model like that literally just download the program, select the first preset, change the color and call it a day.

Telling these people to come up with a unique design, let alone make it in VRoid despite the fact it's really fucking easy is a lost cause. They don't even attempt to try, not even a custom hairstyle from booth, not even a cool accessory for 2 bucks not to mention making your own textures / clothes. Hell I thought the texture of VRoids were ass because every picture i've seen looks choppy as hell, but people can't turn on the AA on the screenshot feature in the application. You can make something unique in Vroid even with just the presets, but you need to sit down for an hour or two and play around with it and see what the options for custom settings are. The people you are talking to can't even be bothered to do that. To me this isn't a problem of not knowing, but rather a problem of not wanting.

And despite all that, I'm of the opinion that your model matters less than your ability to entertain. I'm pretty sure most of these "hoodie vroids" are actually better streamers than me, no matter how insane my model is.

People don't need to be told how to come up with a new design, people need motivation to put energy into making a unique design if you want this epidemic to stop.

Stream assets and overlays are extremely easy to make or get for free and can add a lot of character and polish to your streams. Remember, the idea is to draw viewers to your streams, not to provide an experience to viewers after they've already committed to viewing you. You've go to entice them first and a well-designed streaming layout can help with that. If you look over the range on /cbtcd/ and /mans/ you'll notice that there are those who like the very aggressive down the nose experience and those who fawn over their endearingly "retarded" oshi. 1) they don't want their BFE interacting with other women
2) they don't want to see their oshi flirt with other women (which seems to happen invariably)
3) they don't like the general change in mannerisms and speech that comes from being in a coed stream. This happens particularly because its often hard to keep up the full kayfabe while in a collab where one or more gimmicks or styles would necessarily come into conflict.

I think the voice is fine, its not a super cool or sexy voice or anything, and it definitely has a sort of "nerdy" quality to it, but it doesn't sound bad. I think it's kind of unique (I'm not saying this as a backhanded compliment) which is probably a good thing since it'll make your content/clips/whatever more recognizable. In the end your is your voice and personally I wouldn't try to change it too much. Just lean into its strengths. If you really want to try something you could try speaking a little more from the stomach? Also you need a better mic and possibly to adjust audio processing settings.

Depends on what your character is supposed to be or do. Take what they are or do and look at clothing that makes sense to that type of thing. Obviously your character should express their identity through their clothing design so that if somebody looked at just the clothing they could say "Oh, I know what kind of character would wear that."

For a PNGtuber it could be like 50 dollars, but you can get a pretty good model for like 30, just without much flashy stuff or shadowing, which is probably for the best for a PNG as you try things out and then you can spend on a real live2d later.

I don't even think YouTube is even that bad of a choice for new males these days. Twitch males that I have seen debuting here in the last 6+ months have had such low numbers and such a hard time getting any audience at all that I can't imagine YouTube being much worse. At the very least it is something a bit unique that might set him apart from the seething mass of noview male chuubas. Anecdotally, I have heard some women on cbdct wishing that there were more male indies on YouTube, and there does seem to be a kind of general dislike of twitch and twitch culture among a certain segment of female vtuber audience that watches corpo vtubers that could theoretically be signed into a new male on YouTube if shilled correctly. What increases your chances at being hired, is your PL and content creation. You can be a streamer, someone that does singing/covers, a voice meme maker, etc. What matters is your numbers and talents.

What attracts good numbers? A good model.
