Thing is you're likely right. It's mostly autistic brainworms moving around. I very frequently drop something and start redoing it 'better' just to look back after several hours of work and realise the original take was so much better. It can be demoralising. On the other hand there are examples of the opposite being just as true and starting over giving much better results. I'm so respectfully jealous of someone like Girutea who does amazing work, with great poses and situations and angles and does it so clean and fast.

Unfortunate, for my personal tastes that is, current trends and content don't really attract much motivated or creative people. She's getting her numbers which is good, but it's the mainstream primarily consumption oriented western audience. I think she's fine with that though. Just that 90% of fans that DO stuff and are highly interactive are old fans. Hell even people that left are still contributing. There are a few people that draw, not counting other chubas, create 3D models for chubas, make memes, upload vods etc. It would be awfully quiet without them I think. I've seen other chuba timelines that are rather lonely and sad by comparison. Even with such low numbers the 0.5% of the audience brings so much life.

I was trying to match the Live2D as closely as possible. The existing face and hair have more detail than any model I've worked on, but when I try to make hair without a reference or preset it just comes out like squiggles.
Also Nade stopped using her loose hairstyle completely, so it's already out of date. You'd think the twintails would be easier without a reference, but it would actually be a massive headache and require me to remake some of the front hair from scratch as well.

It's not getting anywhere unless Nade randomly decides to post the hair reference.

Hair is created in groups where you shape a mesh around the head and then draw vector strands on it. Then the strand's shape/thickness/texture/etc. can be individually modified (I think I had 3+ textures for bangs, sidelocks and inner hair). Accessories like hats and ribbons are also modelled as hair.
There's also meshes which auto-place strands evenly around the head, and preset hairstyles you can modify, which I've used for other models. But this one was mostly from scratch.
And yeah, Marie's VRoid was me. FlaVR designs aren't 100% consistent, so I could cheat a little.
