I do think the near stagnant growth and slowly declining viewership is part of the reasoning why. I do think there is a market for vtubers in the West, but what Cover, Niji, or any other small to mid- size Japanese based corpo is offering is not all the appealing to Westerners. Plus with Myth's abysmal showing for their 3D showcase compared to ID's showcase, I can see why Cover may be hesitant to invest in new talents, when all they need to do to bring in more money (and potential sponsors) is use the talents they have now. Since homostars are 10 times less popular, for them the goal is 100k, but it's quite likely the bar's been raised to 200-250k since Tempus2 is already close to hitting 100k.

About half of each gen streams regularly, so yes, going from 6 regular streamers to 9 or more would be a god send. Right now it's:

Myth- Kiara/Mori streaming regularly, Ame and Ina a bit less consistently but still there, and Gura gone for weeks at a time.
Council - Fauna/Bae streaming regularly, IRyS/Mumei with slightly less streams and Kronii MIA for huge parts of every other month.

The problem is, if one or two of them has to take off time for whatever reason (Kiara being sick, Mumei's current situation, JP trips, etc.) we are left with fucking nothing, sometimes all day. No wonder indies are growing, who else are they going to watch?

I think Hololive’s main issue is the West doesn’t have a large enough market for “idol” vtubers. Gura and Mori carried Myth’s popularity because they’re absurdly unique. Kiara is the only EN who was actually an idol and she’s the lowest subbed in Myth. Council functions more as a unit imo and serves a niche. The West has a preference for large indies and twitch culture. The main idol culture that has penetrated the West is overwhelmingly k-pop.
