It caused me to be selective of which bands and songs I listened to; but in time I found that metal covers a lot of themes. Take for example Iron Maiden's Number of The Beast. It's a song where the singer is paranoid if the Devil has sent his beast after him. I'm not into this theme, but Iron Maiden is a popular metal band; so if I meet another metalhead they'd expect me to know and love the song, right? So it becomes hard to connect to ALL metalheads around the world because metal themes are very varied.
