What counts as terminally online? Is just being online a lot all it means? Or is it about not being able to get offline?

If it's the first then I would probably qualify because I'm on a computer all day for work, so I spend most of it browsing around. Then when I get home I'm usually watching v-tubers, so I'm still online.

If it is the second one then I don't think so because I have no issue stepping away for a while. Just recently I unintentionally went 3 days without getting online because I was just doing other things like reading books. If I felt the need I could force myself offline for a while without issue.

>> No.43506845

What even is terminally online, I haven't actually seen it defined anywhere

I remember a phase in the mid 2010s where tons of people started admitting they thought of online interaction as the same as real life and could not separate the two. In particular I remember reading about a rage addict who had to quit the internet cold turkey for her own good after she got into too many fights online

>> No.43506863

>>43506719
It's not literal, it's about perspective. The "terminally online" have warped, extreme views and attitudes because they can't and don't interact civilly with people different than them.

I would say it usually gets applied to trannies whose entire life is on the internet because they can't face themselves in the mirror and retreat to their profile pic of an anime avatar.

Technically tranny vtubers could be an extension of that but all the trannies except zentreya and shartemis seem to be 'pre debut' and never actually debut. So they will never be a woman or a vtuber lmao.

But in a broader sense I would also consider people terminally online if they exhibit weird tendencies. Not "3DPD my waifu is anime" but people who aggressively shill for fake religions like asatru, oblivious to the fact that it doesn't exist off the internet. Basically they can't differentiate "we are strong because we have a whole discord full of weirdos like me" from the fact most people in real life are normally normal going about their lives and don't think like them.

Or people on /fit/ who spam stupid shit like "if you're under 6 foot you're never going to have sex and should kill yourself" when people are trying to discuss deadlifts. Just weird incel lookist shit that ignores most people in real life aren't chad gigacock and still get laid normally just being normalfags.

If you're online and take it srs bzns, it will warp your brain and make you believe things that aren't rooted in data or reality and you'll come out a weird person.

From what I've seen, it's when you wake up, use the computer/smartphone, only get away to use the bathroom or eat, and then continue using the internet until you go to sleep. Then repeat. Moreso for NEETs rather than people who actually have jobs that are exclusively through the computer.

For some reason reddit is not blocked
There is nothing, and i mean NOTHING worse than reddit and reddit mods
Imagine the worst political take on literally any subject, there is a 9999 upvoted 5 award post with a take worse than that

Saw one on the harry potter that was literally "people would rather re-live their 6 year old racist childhood than protect trans women", most upvoted comment

In terms of spending most of my time on the internet, yeah, starting in the early 2000s, though I can switch off and do touch grass every now and then. In terms of building my identity around and forming my worldview based on social media, or participating in self-righteous online mobs, nah. I have a twitter account so I can access mature-tagged artwork by artists on twitter, but I never join public online discussion outside 4chan.

I come to /vt/ because I've been on this website forever, and found multiple aspects of vtubing interesting, from the tech to the talent. I mainly seek out coherent, informative discussion, as rare as it is here. I don't need a fix for an outrage addiction, I consider rrats and gossip beneath me, and I think this unhinged schizo meme larp you guys value so much should've died about as soon as it arose. It really stinks of that whole tumblr-brand glorification of mental illness that fucked up so many millennials' and early zoomers' heads.

/vt/ catalog is twitter-levels of shit and I prefer to stay away, but it's surprisingly easy to end up here on a habit when you frequent several other boards. The generals tend to be at least tolerable and conversational.

Play drums and guitar, draw, read books. Go cycling when the weather allows it. In the summer I grab my ebook reader on longer cycling trips out of town, find a cozy spot to sit down and read away for hours.

I'm never online when I'm on the move, my smartphone stays in the pocket. I don't like using the browser on it, anyway. Calls and SMS only.
