Reposting for Sapling. I would ideally like this base to be set in the past because it would make sense that we would be interested in setting up this base circa 950 or so. It's up to you on that.

I also think we an ESL moment Hoomen, but the more I think about it, the more we really need to think about what exactly our relationship is historically because there are several ways of looking at it.
>1. From my understanding of your lore, your unification would probably have two effects on my nation.
>>a. Alarm. a militaristic state that espouses your values stands in contrast to my nation greatly.
>>b. "Well, At least our neighbors aren't schizos."
>2. With that in mind, I am interested in how our borders came to be. My nation would have preferred to have a more natural frontier border, I have brought this up with you several times, as well as with the map anons that I would rather not have my long northern border essentially be a valley.
>3. Why exactly are we cast as a friendly nation with you given that our ideologies are far apart, our cultures are not exactly similar, you sort of speak a totally different tongue, and your religion can be seen as rather revolutionary to my conservative nation? Furthermore, Why exactly would we be more than willing, as the proud nation we are, to help you establish a navy when we are more than capable of dealing with threats ourselves? What is my nation really getting out of this whole arrangement? It's not like we are lacking in things like raw materials and probably have a well developed, but perhaps backwards, economy. Food is hardly an issue for us either frankly, I don't know what oldrep was thinking and if i am honest... The only real reason I can think of is that we see you as a threat and would rather essentially be a tributary to you (Which I absolutely do not want at all.) It feels rather one sided all things considered, and given my nation's own superiority complex, it baffles me in a way.
>4. I also have had many headaches from being forced to accept past lore without much choice from the beginning. I would rather not hold on to lore that I did not create and came from an era in this thread that is totally different than the current thread. This is not to say we cannot be on good terms, but I would rather a relationship be actually mutually beneficial rather than just me giving you a bunch of things in exchange for practically nothing. I understand it was potatoes, but again, that raises the question of why we had issues with food to begin with considering we are a much older nation than you. It's also not like we cannot import food from other countries that we trade with.

In short, most of the disagreements we have come down to the simple fact that in the end, I was strapped with past lore and basically had to accept it. I do not want that to continue as it is just going to lead to my own frustration. Let's figure it out properly. Put it in a rentry, no more half heart efforts by either of us here.

The neat thing is that you could combine the fresnel lens and the aquarium in this setup, and the water would also act as as heatsink for the anglerfish's light, which would be produce large amounts of heat just by staying on. even if you dot know how to represent vnug in sci fi, you really dont need to worry about representation that much since in a sci fi setting there can be multiple different representations of the same thread from different cultures and you adding any content to the discussion would help others by introducing a new way that they could interact with a new civ.

Would Kokone's interest in the Cthulhu mythos come into play or are lovecraftian cosmic horror off the table for planet possum? I've yet to delve into the dreamlands and nodons part of the mythos but it could be a new avenue to explore.
Also, the hell is an eyeball planet? Looks cool and spooky, probably going to make for some interesting habitation as well

>> No.43216030

>>43215667
The Dreamlands is in its own dimension that humans can only access but also change it by dreaming. As much as it fits Kokone’s lore I don’t know how to work that into this setting as a concrete place. Maybe some kind of collective subconscious realm that people can tap into while dreaming?
Eyeball planets are cool! They’re basically planets that are tidally-locked to their star(s?) so one side is always sunny and hot while the other side is always dark and cold. In the case of habitable worlds without significant greenhouse effect the habitable regions might form a ring or a circle between these two extremes

>> No.43216498

>>43216030
I guess it really depends on what you end up going for, it could possibly act as a go between world to use for space travel, kind of like shadesmar in the cosmere.
So it'd have a kind of ring of life where people can live and grow crops without fear of the intense conditions? It sounds like this is a planet that doesn't rotate so would it not have a day night cycle?

>> No.43217006

>>43216498
I like the idea of astral projection as some kinda FTL method but I think I might hold off on that for now until I work out more about the planet itself
Basically yes although the conditions can still be kinda intense! Since one side of the planet’s always burning and the other side freezing the surface wind will always blow in the same direction from the cold side to the hot side, so I imagine the twilight zone will be constantly blasted by strong wind. That said the constant flow of wind and water (which will also flow in the same direction) also helps moderating the weather so that helps the ring of life to be somewhat survivable compared with the desert and the ice sheet
Tidally-locked planets technically still rotates, just that it rotates at a speed that makes one side of it always facing the star. Normally that would make the sun of the planet always at the same spot (like near the horizons for the twilight zone) but since planets kinda wobble by themselves the sun would still move slightly across the years that could allow for some seasonal change, although seasons on a planet like this can be more severe and less stable. I think people compare it to the seasons in ASoIaF

Well it depends. Sana's graduation will affect /nasa/'s chuubanite. So we might not be able to develop chuubanite space engine fuel. After graduation /nasa/ just disappeared. So we won't have a country on the map anymore either way.

That said just because Sana graduated does not mean Sanalites are gone. Most Sanalites would leave with Lamington station. However the Sanalites that remain will integrate into other nations and culture. My plan with the bakery is that the Sanalites moving to /who/ will need to do a lot of community service jobs to gain favor of the town. Sanalites will spread their culture and ideas with whoever they come into contact with regardless if we have Sana.

But these are just my thoughts. What's your thoughts on wanting to change the ending? Apologies for late response. I was finishing dinner.

Oh well, I wonder if mega twisters would be an issue with the climate dichotomy. I can see a very extensive system of underground networks that could be used to house the civilization and create new tech, but that's in the future, both the conceptual future and the temporal feature!
I think this is the kind of thing that I want to play around with in terms of a sci fi setting, a mix of both cool planetary features that actually exist and how a civilization would exist in them and improvised space tech that's more of a shrug and a nudge towards the more chaotic and pulpy nature of alot of sci fi. We'll have to explain Sanalites leaving /nasa/'s territory somehow. The nation's gone if the thread is gone. If you want to change the ending then that's fine but I don't think we can bring /nasa/ back. Perhaps /nasa/ can be still around as a satellite colony in space. Also, evolution can sometimes be more fresh than a fresh start. How might Palkyries change, evolve and adapt over tens of thousands of years of spatial inhabitation? They might be unrecognizable from what they used to be. That's just one way to go about it though.

First,
>With that in mind, I am interested in how our borders came to be.
Hoshiyomia's older than the Republic. So honestly I have no qualms with Hoshiyomia occupying the more defensible borders. Something like parts of the south being originally under Imperial control but the natives rebelled. Which pushes the Imperials (now Hoshiyomians) to near the current borders. While there were some skirmishes borders didn't change much due to 1. internal politics of the Principality (historically the grand prince has less power over the nobels/ infighting, something like that) 2. subordinate relations between southern petty states with the Principality 3. Trade. The south's supposed to have a series of fortifications.
Second,
>Why exactly are we cast as a friendly nation with you
My headcanon is that it's more so the Republic approached the Principality for friendly relations. There weren't many interactions between Suzy and Mumei but she's the first JP to check out her stream. And note that the Republic was battered after the Founding War, even if it managed to prop up its economy and managed to win the war. Considering there has been an ongoing war between the fanbase and schizos for over a century the nobles are likely glad that it's over and not much had spilled over. It's also supposed to be focused on repairing the many ruined cities and recolonizing the ravaged countryside especially in the East. That would keep the Hoomans busy for decades to come. And depending on how your nobles work they could also be the ones bankrolling many of the projects after the war, wishing to line their own pockets with the potential returns. And based on existing trade/personal relations, and seeing the Republic as a lesser threat a friendly relationship would grow.
>to help you establish a navy when we are more than capable of dealing with threats ourselves?
Profits. Or not necessarily by the Hoshiyomian state officially. Could be a bunch of retired officers, sponsored by merchants from both side hired to establish a fledging navy that could protect their interest. (Though for the Republic it probably has some state involvement)
>Food is hardly an issue for us either frankly
Import for food surplus? Hoshiyomia could have a relatively less productive system. The noble landowners simply rent out their land to peasants like an open-field system. Which they barely invest in. Whereas their energy is more concentrated at sectors that gives them immediate return like artisanal industries. And since the land is owned by the nobles instead of granted by the king (historically?) it was hard for Hoshiyomia to make many land reforms. As such food surplus needs to be imported in order for cities to grow.
>Given my nation's own superiority complex
The rep might not agree with this but I want to make /who/ a sort of "quietly proud" nation. In that, while it does consider itself superior, it doesn't try to promote its lifestyle and project its power much. Modesty is practiced both on a personal level and an ideological level. So the good relation has a lot to do with the fact that the nobles get along fine with the politicians and elites of the Republic for a long time. While some consider the Republic a threat, for many years it was not that obvious since the benefits outweigh the potential danger. However both factors within the Principality and /who/ could slowly make the more belligerent parties win out in political discourse.
Third,
>I also have had many headaches from being forced to accept past lore without much choice from the beginning
I do relate to that somewhat. Luckily I have mostly similar thinking as the rep, only differing on details for the most part. I would ask you to forgive the old rep since none of us had much idea what we were doing back then. And I could help out more to hash out the history and stuff if you are struggling. Just ask.

Other than electromagnetically accelerated projectiles, smart projectiles and Electrothermal-chemical weapons come to mind. There's also nothing stopping you from staying with simple slug throwers but just with a bigger boom. Really depends on what kind of aesthetic and such you want. Hell UNSC from Halo also canonically still uses 7.62x51mm (albeit I think they were improved and iterated upon) when it's set 500 years into the future.

Lines of electromagnets on either side of the chamber that push a magnetic projectile through when turned on. So far the tech isn't that advanced irl, but in theory it is the next step, at least for larger calibers.

>> No.43262053

There are also coil guns to consider. Rail guns are "simple" in that they are basically using electricity to accelerate and force the projectile down along a rail. Whereas coilguns use electromagnetic fields to 'suck' the projectile forward by turning on coils in a sequence and thus creating velocity.
The latter requires very tight timing and are more complex. While railguns suffer from short barrel life and the tremendous heat generated, they generally fire with a higher velocity. Though those are mostly problems that people have encountered contemporarily.

Actually, that would qualify as a coilgun, which are also very cool. Railguns use electrified rails running current through the projectile to create a Lorentz force on it.
>>43259214
Besides what the others have said, you could also try remixing gyrojets (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gyrojet)), with more advanced tech they can plausibly be viable. They're basically guns where the bullet's gunpowder burns like in a rocket instead of by exploding, accelerating over a longer period and making it spin without rifling. In theory, they could also get to velocities higher than what is allowed by the use of expanding gas in traditional firearms, though that was never implemented.
Chuubanite is also available if you wish, and chuubanite-based weapons also wouldn't necessarily be limited by those same projectile velocity limits, depending on how you set it up.
