God, I hate how enduring Harry Potter's cultural legacy is. It was a fun series for children to follow growing up as the books/movies came out one by one, but it's as deep as a puddle.

I feel like I’ve hit a skill ceiling. Up until now I’ve always been improving my writing, slowly but surely. I could tell with each story/chapter I wrote. But I think I’ve found that the rate at which I’m improving has severely plateaued, and now I’m stuck at my current skill level with no way to break through the ceiling. My writing has stagnated and each paragraph feels like it’s at the same level as the last.

You probably pushed to the limits of your knowledge. Some options are intentionally writing things you aren't comfortable writing - go write action if you mainly write smut or vice verse - or study up writing, either by reading books intentionally, thinking about what works and why, or going after actual writing courses.

Yeah that's what tends to happen with prose. You generally skyrocket past the basic stages and get yourself to the point where you can make good paragraphs and scenes.
Now you're at the slow crawl of improvement that comes with learning to tell better stories.
Of course this doesn't mean you're stuck, there's plenty of ways to still learn and improve at writing; dialogue, descriptions, planning. Maybe see where you're weak and see where you can still put conscious effort towards improving.

At a certain level, it also becomes more and more obviously subjective. Most people can agree on what works are atrocious, but which are decent, which are good and which are amazing is a much more contested matter.
It's in the best interest of popular authors and of people wanting to sell writing advice to claim that writing's all figured out and that you just need to adhere to certain conventions, but that's not really true. At most you can try to write in a way that will sell the best, but that's generally understood to not be the same as writing well.

You have a good point. There’s a point where writing gets too flowery and purple for some while too laconic for others. Still, my current writing seems too basic and still has those occasional awkward sentences that I can’t seem to hammer out. It feels like I’m writing the same thing over and over without learning. Maybe a better way to put it is I have to think long and hard about how to write a sentence better than average, and that thinking time isn’t getting any easier or shorter.

You also need to consider what might be going on in your head outside of writing as well. Writing is so tied to our mental state sometimes that what was easier to write one week, can take double the time the next week if external forces fuck with your head. The idea that your thinking time for writing a sentence hasn't slowed down is a good sign. It may not be faster like you want, but if you are dealing with other stuff, the fact you can retain the pace is a show of skill. It might help to do what a few other anons said, focus on a different area that might need improvement in your eyes. It might be a slower process than you're hoping for, but I think you'll bust through that ceiling at some point. Keep at it anon!

Currently trying to work on upping my consistency. I either write for a few minutes or a few hours. It was the same when I first started doing JP reps 2 years ago, but with brute force I've so far managed to up it to a baseline of 25 minutes every day, so I hope I can apply the same process to writing.
