I had a simple customer service job for a good while and things ran smoothly when I joined, I had to answer some emails, manage some workflow, etc. As time went along, the company kept growing so our department was getting more and more work and had to solve more shit, but we were not getting more people. Eventually, we are given more things to handle, on top of taking care of the increased workload, 2 people quit for various reasons and management only hires 1 new person because "budget" despite our ever-increasing profit. We end up with less people and have to do way more work. Burnout hits hard and eventually I quit.
Companies going way overboard with clients thinking they'll just make more money without realizing they also have to use that money to pay more people to handle the actual work is not a new concept.
