Part of a stream's appeal is also background noise. If people want to watch gameplay with no commentary, they would watch a longplay. The only real exception is Corpse who provides a very specific niche.

“Playing a character” doesn’t mean constantly pretending to be a bear or something. It means altering your persona to be consistently entertaining and engaging. Are you naturally the center of parties, the person around whom social events revolve? No? Then why would people want to hang out with you online and watch you play Minecraft? Especially when other people play the same thing but have tits, talent, or a more engaging personality.

If you want to prey on lonely men it’s actually pretty easy with a good model but even then you have to interact with them. Flirting, pretending to care, the right amount of interaction without too obviously pandering and seeming money grubbing. You can always rope in a desperate loser or two but those types like attention as well, so aside from groomers targeting 2views you need a sizable viewer base to reliably make money off that population.

Otherwise you have to actually be interesting. Kiara for all her faults can sit down for two hours and basically riff nonstop for 2 hours on a whim. I feel like most of the vtubers featured here would struggle to make conversation on a first date. Add a terrible filtering model which means your chat always feel like an awkward conversation in an elevator and the results are predictable.
