Unironically this. She never gave up and she had every reason to. That's not to say getting lucky and falling into the right circumstances isn't a part of that journey. Determination and luck aren't mutually exclusive. If she gave up at any point when she was a nobody then she wouldn't have found hololive.

Remember:
>Suisei started as an indie with absolutely no backing at all
>had to work part-time to fund herself, worked at fast food and izakaya on top of having to take on video commissions
>released 1st original song whose lyrics basically say "please find me and notice me", didn't reach far as she wanted it to
>she didn't really know what exactly her strengths are because even if she's a jack of all trades, she's a master of none, she knows her works are painfully mediocre and she doesn't have the "uniqueness" to stand out, which gave her a severe lack of confidence that only got better recently but she still has it
>she wasn't even sure if she was actually an idol but still tried her best to act like it because it's her character, in her old streams it was even a joke to type "アイドル…? (idol…?)" when she says "I'm an idol after all!"
>everyone thought she was stupid because she mispelled Idol Youtuber as Aidol Youtuber in her first ever batch of goods and had to prove she wasn't retarded through kanji tests (she got shitty marks), whistling (she still can't do it after 2 years), and tetris (she was deathly nervous back then so she lost a couple times against viewers)
>eventually joined S:gnal in hopes of actually making something worthwhile, got kicked out after a month for unspecified reasons and was banned from doing any activities for a week
>released Tenkyuu on her 1st anniversary, meant it to be her swan song and an expression of gratitude for all the cometomos who still support her (that's why at the very end of Tenkyuu MV you can see there's a message saying "あなたに、感謝を込めて")
>still somehow didn't want to give up so she joined INNK
>promised her fans that she'll do stuff like releasing a 3rd original song, getting a 3D model after 30k subs and so on
>she got neglected and didn't release anything anyway for a year and had to commission everything for her Kakusei cover because INNK won't provide her with anything
>increased her stream times and frequency, from once a week she streamed everyday, sometimes twice for around 1-2 hours depending on her mood, but still stayed unpopular
>thought about quitting a lot of times but when her friends and the holos ask her for a collab she felt like continuing so she did
>finally moved to main branch
>got a new model, FBK and other holos dropped by to tell her she's cute and welcome to Hololive, FBK in particular dropped her an akasupa

What does it change, though? Suisei herself constantly talks about how lucky she got and how there are plenty of vtubers that are better
singers than herself, so it's not like you're ego-checking her by saying this. And people who set out to do what she does are not doing it from
a place of calculation and risk-weighing, they're doing it because they're starry-eyed artfags who feel like gambling with their lives. Make no
mistake, if you want a chance at succeeding in a creative/entertainment industry, you MUST put your future on the line. The only people you
would conceivably be advocating for are naive idiots who do not understand this and who somehow still believe that the world is fair.

For everyone of them that gave up and went back to working at the konbini, yes. This is true for every art form, which is why there are books and websites that are dedicated to rejection letters received for books that went on to be 'classics'. And the really mind-blowing thing is that in like, 50 years, there'll be some fad where people rediscover old vtuber music and the song that everyone will associate with 'The Golden Age' will be from some 3view you've never heard of, a Kiara orisong or something else equally incomprehensible. Shakespeare wasn't the most famous or popular playwright of his time, Dickens was basically a pulp writer though I guess Suisei's path is a bit closer to Goethe's (who became the first 'rock star' author with a book that's unfamiliar to even most of /lit/). It's not an easy topic because there is no consensus on what makes someone deserve success.
Do luckier people deserve success?
Do hardworking people deserve more success?
Do talented people deserve more success?

According to current statistics, the luckier people get success instead of people who work harder or are more talented, so the logical conclusion is: society believes hard work and talent are irrelevant, they only like people who appeal to them on a vague, personal level.

>society believes hard work and talent are irrelevant
Not exactly. It's more that society as a whole doesn't value hard work and talent and being "just fine" is enough to achieve moderate success. And from then on we're falling into an endless, possibly pointless discussion about objectivism and subjectivism and how to determine if somebody is worthy of success. You'll probably find a few chuubas, games, movies, books, cars, dishes, fucking whatever that you think is basically "overrated", but then you'll ask a few randos about it and they'll just say "i like it" and that's where it ends.
What most people forget about is that humans don't inherently follow logic or meritocracy. It doesn't matter at all if something is actually better than what's currently at the top, if they can't be convinced to change their opinions then you're not getting anywhere.

I think she and other decent singers like Watame just lack the pushiness, shamelessness and external connections that Suisei has. Who is the better singers are subjective matters, but Suisei often advertise her songs or concerts and push her managers for good products, on top of her connections with big names like Arte Refact and Takou Inoue. She also gives less shit about negative feedbacks so haters can't use anything out of her to create controversies to tarnish her image

who the hell has said that? of fucking course she needs something to promote herself. she herself knew this and it's why she applied to hololive in the first place. how many of the biggest and most iconic singers in history do you know that aren't signed to a label? even ado was groomed by universal, i'd hardly call her self-made.

again nobody said that (and if they do they're retarded, simple as). being good at what you do is only one part of success, i'm sure even you yourself personally know someone who is an incredible artist/musician/singer/whatever but that is never gonna be famous (and perhaps doesn't even want to) because they simply don't have the drive to reach the top. suisei, on top of having great skill, does.

Streams for one. She's averaging 1/week, if even. Suisei didn't start achieving liftoff until she fully committed to daily streams, and even then that was only one ingredient in creating her 'luck'. I feel like out of all holomems, Suisei wants it the most. Other holomems want this level of success too, but they haven't trained for it as much as Suisei. Cover after cover, song after song, she kept up the hard work to become a top tier singer. Did her due diligence as a streamer too. It became evident to me that her voice is way more trained than other holomems in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecJkLCP2uu4

If anyone's gonna make it out of Hololive's karaoke dungeon, it's this girl. I hate how some of her songs have the instruments overpowering her vocals, though. The Stellar Stellar on her channel was almost unlistenable, so I'm happy she got a TFT version that focuses more on her vocals.

I think she could have easily kept her normal 8 hours of pushing sand, eating potato chips, and pretending to read SCs while releasing some more music. If your argument is that "her voice sounds too clean" it's because we're hearing the audio in a more raw form than anyone who's physically present at the venue. Watame is really good but she doesn't sound like she has the vocal talent to stand out outside of the holo bubble. Kinda silly to suggest that she has an image problem.

>> No.41915028

suisei isn't particularly remarkable either, it's not like she's winning people over because she's particularly talented or something. Like did you watch the live concert a few hours ago? I was surprised just how much worse she was even compared her usual utawaku, the different environment or something must have really done a number on her.

But she has definitely done a lot to cultivate a 'cool', generally competent image overall, which goes a long way. Tryharding and having that payoff in success is great red meat for the fans.

Like her first big opportunity was when they invited her to the yukiyama jinrou collab, and she grinded the game beforehand and did whatever she could to leverage that opportunity into more attention. And then she kept doing shit like that. She leveraged her tetris ability to give off a super cool competent strong vibe. She grinded marika forever to win the company tourney multiple times. She acts in a way where she can so as to project that image of herself. And it works, people love it.

Suisei is just better at marketing and branding herself compared to people like Watame.

has she? she's not completely tone deaf and can hit the pitches she needs to on command but I don't know if I would give her much more in the way of props beyond that. Her tone quality is often just not good. I'd still place her comfortably in the top half of holos but, that isn't actually saying much.

She sounds great when she's singing pieces that are well within her range and isn't fucking around too much but she obviously isn't able to communicate to her orisong composers to take advantage of her natural strengths because they regularly have her going out of her comfort zone.

to many people don't bother socializing or try to network. she got into hololive because she talked to people. her songs are nice probably great because she got to know great people.

A lot of people forget (or they simply weren't there at the time) that vtubing was actually kinda dying in 2018. By that time Kizuna and the other original big names like Kaguya would start to fall off from their peak in popularity and novelty. It's really easy to think that Hololive was destined for success right from the get go, but the first two gens truly had to work extremely hard for everything they got. Only by late 2019, with the debut of third gen, did the ball really get rolling, and even then, the popularity of Hololive was still minuscule compared to what it has become in the post-HoloEN era. Fubuki was by far the most popular holo and her numbers back then weren't all that better than what a lot of smaller corpos get today.
It's crazy to think that the first vtuber to ever break Kizuna's youtube sub record was Gura. Even to this day Fubuki has a million less subs than Kizuna's channel has, despite the latter being officially dead for a year. Obviously sub count isn't everything, but it really goes to show how massive that first wave of vtubing was in 2017 and early 2018 and how hard the whole scene fell off for several months. Hololive, 774 and early Niji truly revitalized the medium.
