contract question - is it normal for a company to own ip/assets until the talent buys it out? seems like that way based on miori celesta & terumi but looking for some confirmation

>> No.4116645

>>4116580
>is it normal
no one knows, it's not like there's an industry best practiced guide for vtubers. it all depends on how the contract is written.

i have no idea how Miori kept her's but for Terumi, it seems like the company paid for the model and rigging, so company owns it. whether or not you can "buy out" an IP is also completely different, depending on how the contract is written. i don't know why any company would give their talents that kind of an option, because they could just leave that language out and the talent never even gets the opportunity to 'buy out' the model.

>> No.4117515

Define "successful" - I have a dedicated group of 20 or so folks that show up to every stream and total viewer numbers that can get up into the 60-70. 1k subs and 52.4K hours watched on Youtube. 850 follows and 30ish stable subs on Twitch. I didn't vote because it depends on the quality of the model. I think a high quality 3D model is better than a high quality 2D one, but bad 3D models can look really bad compared 2D models. So personally I think 3D ultimately better, but 2D is much easier to make look good.

Thinking about giving it a try, have a character concept in mind, but don't know if it would be anything anyone would be interested in. Would anyone be interested in a vtuber that mostly reads stories to their audience?

I love reading to people and think there's something really special about being read to, but I don't know if anyone's looking to vtubers for storytime. But I figure it's something different than the endless Minecraft streams.

Honestly, when you consider that a big part of success of female vtubers is basically being objectified as just a "cute voice with a avatar that you can jack off to" even when they're legitimately good streamers and content creators, I wouldn't be so sure you'll want that kind of success. Male vtubers are just "unlucky" that the fujo crowd for the most part prefers real life K-Pop idols.
That said, if numbers and numbers only are the end goal, then yeah, being a male vtuber is pointless, just facecam.

Was kind of thinking of this character concept for a while.
A job-to-job mercenary "warlord" in an undisclosed fictional, snowy country fighting against a fictional organization that goes by "The Federation" (I just really want to have an enemy that I can call "feds").
One of the main motiffs would be the character trying to learn how to play a guitar (I don't know how to play a guitar but would love to know how to).
Would probably focus on chill and friendly streams, kind of like vinny vinesauce.
Of course, that will never gonna happen because I am too poor AND my past yabs would surface one day or the other. How do you even deal with cancel culture?
Obviously inspired by Ace Combat and Metal Gear.
Thanks for reading my blog btw no unsubscribing.

I might have mixed up the question, so interpretation 1:
It's a program called mix it up, was originally a chat box for mixer, but then was updated for twitch. (Still being worked on for youtube, it's open source)

It has a million bot things, but can have 'overlays' based on things like point channel redemption, bits, and just in general. It's just hosting a web page on your browser kinda like how streamlabs chat is an obs source. However, in mixitup, you have a section where you can edit the entire html element of that overlay, so pretty much ANYTHING you can do with html/css without javascript + using some mixitup keywords like $latestsubscribedusername etc. to add content in.

interpretation 2: what did I do with it? I made a latest follower thing that is flexboxed so if I add more or less to the titles of stuff it'll automatically resize, and I turned my 'just talking' chat into something that looks like speech bubbles pointing to the huge avatar of the user. The largest downside is that cheermote, ffz, and bttv emotes are currently not supported and I can't seem to get the icons for mod/subscriber images in each text. Still need more testing, but there's so much I can do.

As for tips try your damndest to view yourself as a viewer, see yourself for the first time. If you aren't getting viewers literally watch yourself as though you're a stranger and ask what parts you can emphasize of your character to be more entertaining/engaging and what you do that's not interesting or just boring. Edit yourself with the mentality that Dead Air = Nightmare. Whittle it down. Snuffy got popular because her 3D model was something most normie vtuber watchers hadn't seen before, and it was rigged and tracked using some fancy software for some admitedly fantastic facial expressions. Top that off with her being an absolute fucking degenerate that generates more clippable material for clip channels to profit off of and bam; Snuffy is now popular.

She was a cat Vtuber for most her career that blended in with the crowd. Then she got a face tracking software that let her do all kinds of things like pucker her lips and make a wide array of facial changes that other Vtubers simply couldn't do.
There was a very short golden age where she both had this model and was doing "The Snuffy Voice" which is a high pitched girly voice, and during this overlap she grew dramatically fast.
Following this though she dropped the voice entirely and because her voice was slightly deeper than the fake one, people threw themselves upon her literally begging her to say Ara Ara so much that the next few months was nothing but talking about how she was nervois about exposing her real voice and saying shit in a normal tone and watching people lose their minds over it.
Now she's fallen into being pretty generic. People are getting over the voice stunt and seeing that their mommy raccoon wasn't actually that mommy after all, and her 2D debut didn't have half the impact of the 3D one. She mostly just watches tiktoks and has fallen out of relevance because the attraction to streamers being "Real" by unveiling their actual voices was always a fleeting fad. Her clips have dropped from 300k to about 20k, and new clips roll out slower than ever. Nobody is all that shocked.

Asset ownership is a legal issue first and foremost. Companies (especially entertainment companies) will always prefer to own everything IP related because it makes the process of sourcing and licensing easier for them to handle. While it gives them control over the life of a talent because they are dependent on keeping the job to keep access to their content, it also means that they will be liable to handle any legal or financial issues that arise as a result of said IP being their possession, thus becoming a shield for the talent. If the company faces legal/financial problems, the talent isn't liable or responsible for anything regarding the company.

If a talent wants acquire the IP, it is also a simple matter since they would be dealing only with the company as the IP holder. In this case, the talent needs to make sure that they have the ability to acquire the IP given that the requirements to do so are met. A company is not going to invest money only to end up being swindled out of IP weeks down the line, and a talent wants to have the ability to either negotiate or earn the IP that they were involved in creating.

No one wants a Taylor Swift situation.

Yes, the answer is yes. It is normal for companies to own IP. VTubers are not the exception either.

Good "evergreen" content
- skilled karaoke
- highlights and clips of exciting moments in games
- relatable zatsudans
- educational and informational content
- reaction videos of dumb shit that's funny

Bad "evergreen" content
- transient memes
- amongus game play (fun in the moment, but no one will go through and watch the vod aside from clips)
- multiple hours of apex gameplay (any game really, only fun in the moment, not so much as a vod)
- "reviews" (video game and anime reviews only relevant for a year before the next one comes out)

basically, ask yourself, if you make this video, will someone want to watch it 1 month from now? 6 months? 1 year?

for example, kurzgesagt and vinesauce are pretty much peak 'evergreen' informational content, tens of thousands of views across a multitude of videos even 4-5 years after they were originally uploaded. each day, someone falls down the bite-sized education rabbit hole and watches their videos.

on the other hand, how many people are going back and watching LinusTechTip reviews of the GPUs that were released in 2017?

To clarify on the charisma part (personal opinion): you need to confidently and consistently embody your character. Saturation may see daunting, but if you prepare a character that has a lot of varied prompts to react to what is going on on stream, you’ll have a high chance of making it.

This pastebin said it well about consistency:

Too late to say this, but next time remember to check if the Artist's Terms of Conditions specifically declare if they allow revisions (if not, abuse by being "unsatisfied") and how many times they will update and let you know the work in progress

That artist you mentioned is your usual unprofessional emotional wreck artist type

If they call out on you after you call on them, call them out by asking "politely if they could let you AT THE VERY LEAST stay updated after waiting for fricking 2 months when you see them doing commissions for everyone else"

If they say they are overwhelmed by how many commissions they have, you can go for two option of actions :
1) Bluff (or maybe truly) to offer to raise your commission price by tipping and tell them to raise their prices in the future so (they stop bitching) and you have the "reputation" of being a reasonable commissioner if you really go for this course of action
2) The most risky action is to ask for a refund or at least a future bonus ticket discount for a next commission if they already splurged your money (on their bills, rent, whatever)

And I'm speaking as an artist myself.
