Except female streamers with avatars is so low-effort and low-risk that EN corpos can do it too. Random thought: I think one reason it might be like this is that people think either you have to spam males and male collabs, like NijiEN, or you have to pander to unicorns like Kawaii and pre-Tempus Hololive. This is one of the greatest perks. If I ever wanted to become a (corpo) vtuber, this would be one of the first things I'd check. Niji EN slowed down a ton, and it doesn't seem like you understood their approach at first. First wave was three people. Imagine sitting on only three people for six months. The misstep was Ethyria since it was two and a half months after Obsydia while having FOUR members. Luxiem was aimed at a different audience from the previous three waves so debuting them withing two and a half months from Ethyria didn't matter since both waves had different objectives. Then they slowed down and I believe it was around three months rather than two and a half, then it was an even larger gap until iLuna at five months down the line and the current wave almost six months. Not only that but there weren't women for two waves until iLuna, so people like Reimu stagnating is all on her since she had plenty of breathing room to the next female releases.

The thing is that Nijisanji can do those things while small corpos can't as easily. On the other hand six month debut gaps seem to be the most successful when you're debuting around five members.

At least on the JP side, Hololive debuts have become progressively more spaced out over time. With only a couple of months each for gen1, gen2, gamers, and gen 3. And then like 6 months for gen 4, 8 months for gen 5, and 15 months for gen 6. So there could easily not be a JP 7 until this summer or possibly longer. And since they also seem to stick to the pattern of JP->EN->ID, there may not be a proper EN 3 until JP 7.

Someone made a graph of time elapsed and amount of members for the three current branches. ID and EN are sorely lagging behind to JPs growth. I think around the same amount of time they have about 1/3 or so of the members compared to JP. I don't understand their decisions, I think their management is stupid outside of JP, but if they want to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory then more power to them I guess. They could have had a strangle hold of the EN scene, but moving like molasses ensured that Niji EN is that crowbar wedging that door open to let the rest of the EN scene in.
