as with most niche otaku industry the only thing that matters is merch sales, maybe memberships. if people are willing to pay for your overpriced garbage merchandise you're as good as gold, and stars fans do that and then some. the non randomized merch they had at the stars booth at AGF sold out entirely in two hours and gets sold scalper style on mecari for 3-5xs the MSRP. this is not including lives, meet and greets, etc. They are doing fine and paying for themselves, if not making as big a profit as the girls.
