Not long now.

More and more viewers have been dabbling in streaming, but more than that the mindset among even the strongest of them has shifted. No longer do they swear themselves off of chuubadom. Where before it was dignity or satiation with the status quo, now their only excuse is a lack of time or at best mere indifference. There'll be a whole new wave of viewers turned chuuba, it's only a matter of time.

Only these won't be the usual case of some viewers becoming cringe 2views. Those who are next to fall will be pillars of the community, some both known and unknown to the thread at large, but still highly ingrained. This will upset the already ill-balanced scales irrecoverably, not just from the number of viewers that turn but also the number of friends whose headspace is won over by now having chuubas that they not only watch, but also talk with daily, play games with, and treat like a normal person. Even those that are isolated from these groups will be pulled in by the FOMO.

The thin veneer of hololarp that even today still permeates indie vtubing will be eroded, and the expectations of viewers will change irrevocably. They might not be true vtubers, but they'll expect the same type of engagement that vtubers give each other. They'll no longer want to be treated as "viewers". And when everybody is a vtuber, nobody is.

The focus of vtubing activities will shift away from streaming, Discord will be more important than Twitch. At present, the more savvy content creators in the space are already exploring other mediums, to find new niches, and to simply focus on things that they enjoy more, and this effect will be accelerated. Vtubing will extend to numerous different mediums, but more than that, content creation will no longer even be seen as imperative to the activities of a vtuber. Look at how little the average vtuber values content when there's clout to be gained, and you'll see how easily the general mindset can shift here.

Most vtubers already treat vtubing as more of a social activity than as serious content creation. Before long, the expectation of streaming or creating content at all will be gone, and most of the community will be solely interested in socialising. It'll probably look more like a bastardisation of OC and weeb cultures, like a sea of vtweeters but without the clout-chasing. And I think it'll be for the best, for streaming will be for those so inclined, and not done out of obligation. It'd also be healthier for the community and mean more growth in the long term, so we'd see much more potential for those who do stick with streaming. More than anything, I think it'll bode well for our collective mental health.
