I originally had a lot more to say, but essentially I'm into it. I'm not as against the suicidal stuff at the beginning, I thought that was fine, but I'll agree that the protagonist is a bit much after that. I think that he gets a little too upset at Polka a little too quickly, I think if his anger at her trying to perform was stretched over a few days his blow up and her openness about feeling that it's all she's good for would come across a little better. It is difficult to write somebody as unlikable without them going too far and being intolerable, it's something I'm struggling with in one of my own fics, so I'm not gonna blame you too much on that, but that is the biggest critique I can see reading this.

A few threads back I had a nice back and forth with some of my readers, and thus realized some of my series were better because I actually wanted to write them, as in, something to happen, while others were just exercises.
Eye opening.

I just read the latest Cover High chapter and man, your writing always blows me away. There's always so much to your level of prose and the vast selection of adjectives, maybe even too much to the point where it gets overly purple. There'd be times when there would be a big paragraph of fancy wording and inner thoughts in between two lines of a single person's dialogue which I felt might have bloated the story a little and dragged on conversations. This is all completely subjective though, and regardless it makes for great reading for someone like me who struggles with vocabulary and writing descriptive, flowery paragraphs.
As the other Anons said I think the reveal of our transfer student's troubles felt a bit sudden, even if the implications and hints were there. Don't get me wrong, I lean towards main characters that aren't blank slates, but I just feel that some more build up and focus on that aspect of the story could have been put into the previous chapters. I don't blame you one bit though, it's fucking hard to land those, especially if you hadn't planned it from the beginning.
Other than those two minor gripes and maybe the Miko scene being a little rocky, this was a really well written addition to CH with some fantastic fluff. Pekora has never really done anything for me and was simply entertaining, but this whole series combined with her new(ish) outfit has made that opinion on her do a complete 180. The confession was great and I am eagerly looking forwards to the festival and this story's conclusion. Thank you for the meal.

Despite having a passable amount of motivation and drive, I've been on a road trip for the past few days and between my car getting towed and my friend clogging the hotel toilet, there's been little time to write and no time to visit the thread. There were 14 stories that 404'd since the last archive backup and I copied them into a folder.

Under "Stories" you will find "!WG - Hard Archive Master Index.html" which will serve as an index since the story names are no longer part of the file names, so it's very cryptic to find. I managed to implement some filtering nonetheless, so it's not as much of a pain to find the stories.

I also copied the code, in case anyone wants to take a peek. It's not perfect, but I had to do a much smaller number of manual corrections and story pulls than last time, so it's getting better with time. I'll take some time later to comment on it, because otherwise it's very barren of instructions.

Playing devil's advocate here but softer sci-fi and 'harder' fantasy basically merge into one genre outside of theming, like obviously they diverge the more they play into their genre but when the (space) witch is slain by a (laser) sword after they tried befuddling the hero with their vile (psionics)/magic the similarities do crop up.

That's Dark Fantasy. Hard Fantasy is basically Lord of the Rings. You know, fantasy series that strives to present stories set in (and often centered on) a rational and knowable world.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you mean, but I wouldn't describe LotR's world (Arda) as "rational" or "knowable".
Gandalf has seen Frodo be unable to toss the Ring into the hearthfire at Bag End, and yet he is sure Frodo is best-suited for the task of destroying the Ring because Frodo has wisdom and moral character. The Ring is destroyed because Frodo's mercy towards Gollum and self-sacrifice have made him worthy of succeeding by divine grace.
Tolkien keeps the world, and especially its magical elements more similar to fairy story and myth than most equally elaborate fantasy (especially those with "magic systems").
And then there's Tom Bombadil, the intentional enigma too content with singing, strolling about and his wife to give a fuck about the Ring or just anything outside of his borders in general.
