Some people are really good at streaming to a small audience, so they get successful, and their audience grows until it reaches a point where they are no longer comfortable.
Remember Pekora's old drinking streams? She pivoted to acting like a large streamer instead, but the fact that she happened to be skilled with both large and small audiences was a happy coincidence, and there's no reason to assume it's the norm.
Being promoted to the point of incompetence is very common in lots of businesses, but obviously it's more visible in the entertainment industry.
