Hopefully it was just that YAGOO didn't want them to have any excuses they could blame their abysmal performance on. EN managers obviously expected bigger numbers this time around, with a whole 4 hour timeslot and no overlap, and they got jack shit. The streamers they prevented from streaming would together have had several times those numbers. And it's fair to assume a lot of those would have been viewers went to other brands like NIJI for the first time today, where some might enjoy it and decide to stay. Investors would have pushed him to let EN managers run the ship since they assume they know the market better. This proves that they don't, which will hopefully result in a course correction.

It’s because Yagoo used to work for an advertising firm, and also because JP media companies are experts at cross-collaborations. The strategy was to enforce a sense of brand identity by reminding people that EN, JP, and ID are all together in the same company. And the males.
We as viewers think that won’t ever work (and I think we’re right). Imho the real reason the branches don’t have unity is the language barrier and time zone differences. If you want unity between branches, you need a critical mass of bilingual/trilingual vtubers in every branch who are willing to sacrifice sleep schedules so they can collab. You need everyone to stream a lot so male collabs (if people insist on them) get drowned out by other content.
This sort of half-assed “branding” establishes unity—but the bad kind. It changed what Hololive means, not just to EN viewers, but also to JP and ID viewers.
So yeah, I think Cover fucked up. But there you go, that’s the rationale they originally had. They wanted to established inter-branch unity, but they don’t have the talents to back it up, so they fucked it up instead of coping with the status quo (which would have been much better).
