So I guess that TTRPG thing fizzled out? It seems no VTuber has the attention span for a full campaign. You either gotta do one shots or expect to have an unfinished campaign.

I mean ideally it’s all give and take, the DM leads for a while and sets the scene, and when the moment is right they can take a step back and let the players discuss whatever needs discussing. But that requires players who actively attempt to rp with each other. I don’t think Mori is free of blame, it’s just that from what I remember Kiara was the only player who seemed consistently switched on, engaged, and eager, so Mori kinda had to fill in some gaps here and there. There might have been some missed opportunities where Mori could have invited her players to take the reins, doors she could have opened for them rather than relying on them having both the improv ability and initiative to barge in. idk

I think the biggest problem with the TTRPG was
>too many people
>Mori was too ambitious with the plot - it's a Hunter game but she's including Changeling/Geist/Vampire all at once.
>Ame shouldn't have been there, terrible player.

If it was just Mori, Gura and Kiara it'd have actually been really good. Mori is really good at smaller moments leading up to big mysteries, but it's hard to keep track of tone when she blows her load constantly. Kiara was obviously really interested in the story even if she was new to the whole TTRPG dynamic and Gura was surprisingly really good at integrating herself into the world. Mori is very good at playing various characters and smaller scenes, but this all gets lost when there's 4 other people there 2 of which are asocial flies on the wall and she's throwing high stakes esoteric shit from other CofD games at them to the point where the story is just a total mess.

This is leaving aside any behind the scenes scheduling autism. I think if Mori were to try this again, she'd need to have a smaller but tighter group of people and she should probably choose Geist over Hunter and ideally stay in that lane to flesh it out.
Anyone who unironically suggests they should have played D&D is a designated normalfag that should just watch CriticalRole and fuck off.

She fell into the classic first time DM trap of trying to recreated a bunch of cool epic moments from games she played in, without taking the time to lay the foundation for them first. Going to the hedge is cool when it's the climax of a long story arc that builds up to it, not when it's session 3 and your characters barely know each other.

>> No.39625824

>>39614566
Anon, it's actually pretty hard to get 5 people with wildly-differing schedules and timezones to meet up for several hours a go for a dozen sessions. And it's not like Minecraft where people can start the stream and then ditch twenty minutes in or join halfway through; once one person has to go, it's basically done.

I've had long-distance TRPG sessions fall apart for this same reason.

>> No.39626158

They all had issues, mostly from all being new.

>Mori
Overly ambitious, but unfocused, but also terrible for railroading. She'd watch an anime and decide this WILL be part of the next session. Couldn't weave in player ideas but also bad at discouraging.
>Kiara
Just didn't really understand much. Heart was in it but from mechanics to how bullets work Tiara should've died a lot. Sometimes from no one else moving the plot so she had to try, often stabbing herself. Mori let her build a poor character for the campaign.
>Gura
If she wasn't le meme shork everyone would call her out for being that player. Wanted to push silly ideas instead of engaging. Mori was too scared about ever punishing them for wacky antics.
>Ina/Ame
Just didn't engage but sure could luckshit.

The biggest sin though was the juggalo side mission. Which we can blame deadbeats for helping design.

Mori wants to be a player, not a game master, and she's said as much. She only got slapped with the GM role by default because she has the most experience.

It shows, because the parts where she just roleplays a villain or walks a PC through a tense situation (i.e. the early episodes) are really really good.
It falls apart when she's dealing with multiple players and trying to give them all equal screentime when some of them are godawful roleplayers. It gets worse when she has to come up with progression in the story (because the audience expects an ending) instead of just doing tight one-shots.

I can guarantee you that a Fauna campaign where she and Kiara are players would be much more enjoyable, because those two would be good PCs.

The TTRPG, at least in this form it was set up, was always doomed from the start:

- too large group, the insistance that it always HAD to be a full gen collab with everyone meant that scheduling was always an uphill battle. Despite them talking about how "oh it's no problem if someone has to drop out for a bit", that was always a farce (if the rest of them actually WANTED to continue the ttrpg and it was only one or two persons dropping out, the rest could've worked around this and carried on, but the fact that they ALL pretty much dropped out simultaneously suggests no one left was really into it at the end)

- people all over the world (timezones) and being busy with their own work. Another issue for scheduling. It's hard enough to get 5 people to agree on one day to collab, then you also have to decide the hour. And being spread out over multiple timezones all but ensures it will always be shit (too late / too early) for at least some of them, which is poison for atmosphere and chemistry. There was always one (or multiple, most of the time) people in the collab that had clear "ugh, I'd rather not be here" energy, what with being tired, grumpy, groggy or just nonresponsive.

- both issues above also meant that with the sessions being so spread out thin over weeks apart, the girls forgot everything about the game, and each stream there had to be time wasted for "uh, so what were we doing again?" plot refreshers and "uh, how does this game work again?" rule reminders. By the end, some girls were clearly checked out mentally and even Mori, whose passion project this was, seemed less into it. The fact that no one is in a hurry to revive the ttrpg is a clue that yeah, they're all probably quietly happier that it's rather forgotten.

IF (big if) anyone ever gets the big idea to do something like this again, they should learn the lessons from the failure of the first season.
- do a smaller group, only of people who are committed and actually want to be there, instead of passive passengers just dragged along for appearances' sake. 2-3 people max, also that's just easier to coordinate.
- don't try to overburden yourself by planning to make this into a season-long "arc" if it clearly doesn't work out, just do shorter self-contained scenarios that can be played in one or two sessions. If it works and everyone wants more, great, and if it doesn't, you can just stop and no one is sad or left hanging.
Really, the JP's did ttrpg streams successfully before, and they've figured out these simple practices before, so just learn from them and copy that.

I legit think an adventurers guild format with each session being a mostly self contained mini adventure would be the best way to pull this off.
The guild contrivance provides a reason for people to drop in and out along with a variety of story options.
Focusing on small self contained stories that can be done in one or two sessions lets you avoid having the issue of people forgetting shit and needing specific characters to hand.

4 players is literally the ideal group size; it grants everyone the ability to shine, but also allows for specialization enough that you don't have to be a jack of all trades, master or none.

The problems weren't from the group size, they were other things as pointed out by others here in this thread:
- Lack of engagement
- Railroading
- Knowledge / wanting to learn
- Time issues

I'll add in another big one, the WOD system they used wasn't good and Mori used it poorly. What was / wasn't a success frequently came down to if Mori wanted it to or not instead of a simple "If you beat X roll, you succeed" If I remember correctly, the one time Ina rolled 4 successes by the WOD rules and Mori made it like she barely passed the check. The convoluted damage system also is a nightmare and essentially 3/4 should have died in their solo campaigns / been useless afterwards in the group campaigns because of how damage exists.

I look forward to see how Tempus does with D&D 5e, a much more friendly system. Even that though, they've fudged the rules a bit already with Curiobot who should have had to make all those spell attacks at point blank range at disadvantage.
