I seriously think it’s just that Gura had a modicum of culture at a time when HoloEN was the only relevant force in western vtubing. That said, being kinda cultured but not full-on slutting it up isn’t really that rare anymore. At this point I think it’s just familiarity and path dependency.

She’s not my cup of tea but honestly she’s a decent vtuber with humor that has wide appeal but a lot of the huge success is just right place at the right time. She had a design that appealed to many people, she had an amazing stroke of luck blowing up before she even debuted with the “a” meme, and she was apart of the first English generation of the largest vtuber company (among English speakers).

She's extremely empathetic to the point of failure. Empathy is the gift and curse of truly understanding.
It cripples her in her social life because of this sensitivity but it makes her adept at leading an audience around.

She knows how to entertain. Her comedic timing and interactions with chat are hard to match. While we can say it was lucky timing, I doubt HoloEN would be as popular without her. She was the gateway to western vtubers. She plays dumb but is one of the most experienced. She has built her popularity from scratch at least three times.

Gura often says it's wrong to be concerned about numbers. Worrying about them just detracts from your goals. I admire how she doesn't celebrate reaching million milestones. After all, dropping all and starting over is nothing new to her. And why I don't worry about her future.

Someday, after completing her Hololive projects, she'll be independent or maybe in VShojo. Less frustrated with management and relaxing; doing easy reactionary content and playing Muse Dash happily.

Gura's karaoke is what finally pushed me down the rabbit hole. But there's still a channel that has all her karaoke. Her growth in Sept/Oct was still 50k new subs per month. Nov was just bad.

Just for minimal corp support. In one of her streams before joining Holo, chat talked about buying her song through iTunes/Spotify? She replied it wasn't hers. That wouldn't have happened if she were in a corp.

She makes me happy when she streams, most of the games she streams are god awful, she doesn't finish many of them, she barely does any projects, only has one orisong after 2+ years and I don't believe for a second her JP reps are ever going to come to anything but watching her is like a timewarp, I can watch a 4 hour stream, actually paying full attention to it and It always feels like it's over too soon. No other vtuber does that to me consistently, she has max level charisma and puts me under her spell whenever she is on the telly, when she is gone for a long time which is more often than not I can take a step back and see that she is objectively lazy and probably doesn't care all that much about hololive at this point, but none of that matters when she is actually live.
