What is /asp/?

A thread for aspiring vtubers! Whether your goal is to make the journey as an independent streamer or to gain experience and build a portfolio for agency auditions. Let's help each other grow and make it. Indies are welcome to selfpost, but shill responsibly. Share your knowledge, insights, feedback, discuss what has worked and what hasn't worked for you. And always remember to do your research before posting personally identifying information. That includes both in this thread and in your audition applications to agencies.

FAQ:
>Do I need a fully rigged model to be a vtuber?
Nope! You can get started as a simple .png character!

>I want to learn how to rig Live2D models, where do I go?
Brian Tsui (of Iron Vertex), Kira Omori and the official Live2D YouTube channels have many tutorials available.

>Where can I find artists/riggers?
vtuber.gg, ArtStation, DeviantArt, Twitter, Reddit, Skeb.jp, etc.

>I just want to get started, can I buy pre-made models?
Yes! Live2D models can be purchased off nizima.com (Live2D's official marketplace) or booth.pm (general Japanese indie artist website). Be sure to check compatibility with your facial tracking software!

>Where can I learn how to digital market myself?
https://learndigital.withgoogle.com/digitalgarage

>Where can I find some good games to stream?
https://twitchtracker.com/games
https://sullygnome.com/

>Twitch or YouTube?
The general rule of thumb is Twitch if your content is primarily based on livestreaming and YouTube if your content is primarily pre-recorded and edited.

>Do you think there's an audience for X, Y, Z content?
First, ask yourself if you would watch a streamer of your skill and experience. Second, do a check on social media and look to see if other streamers are already creating similar content. Don't limit yourself to vtubers, include traditional real life streamers to scope out a potential audience.

I've been overthinking a lot about my vtuber model, which made me think
What is more important:
The rig quality or the art quality?
I have seen a lot of chubas with not the best model art pulling big numbers so its probably just me overthinking.
Another question about the rigging:
Should i just commission a bust rigging? I feel like there is not much point in going for full body rigging and the prices vary. I want to spend 160max on a rigging this time instead of going for a cheap 70 option.
I saw a lot of good riggers on fiverr, but maybe anyone knows how to find some on twitter?

>> No.38698339

>>38697788
Rig quality. You can have the best art but if your rigger is shit, every angle that's not the default, straight-on pose will be horrible. Don't get absolutely shitty art either though.

>>38698339
I am drawing the art myself, i think I am an -okay- artist. Nothing too special but nothing too bad either. I struggle with the light sources and shadows but thats about it.

Man, I didn't know where to post this, I don't consume vtubers and this is the first time on this board, and while this thread is not the best I just don't know where else to ask (maybe in /g/?).
Anyway, I don't know much about streaming but I thought youtube's streaming chat was a little panel outside the video with regular boring styling, while twitch allowed you to have cool custom chat styles (and is always within the streaming window/panel).
That was the extent of my knowledge.
But somebody linked to this girl in another board and she's streaming on youtube and the chat appears on the video and with a cool, persona (game) style.
What's going on?

you can have your chat appear on the stream regardless of what website you use, you just have to set up the widget for it in obs and have it connect to your chatbox

>> No.38704075

>>38703854
streamelements or streamlabs obs chat widgets for OBS. You have to custom make it with CSS or get it from somewhere (I'm pretty sure a Persona skin should be floating around somewhere) but that's the gist of it.

They basically talk to the API of twitch get the chat data, style it through their own CSS and you throw it into your OBS. The same works for Youtube. I see streamlabs at least having the option for either youtube or twitch chat integration.

I see. So people who stream on youtube but don't have an in-video chat (the vast majority) either don't know they can have it with some tech wizardry or don't care enough.
I had no idea.

>> No.38704246

pretty much. honestly the value of a chat on-screen depends on how your viewers watch your videos. on either twitch or youtube vods are saved with the chat. It's good for twitch streamers to have their chat on the screen if they export their vods to youtube or make clips with them. But i'd argue the majority of small vtubers don't even make use of that (me included). It's a nice element to fill the screen with, especially if it is stylish like that. also anon your taste in vtubers....

>if they export their vods to youtube or make clips with them. But i'd argue the majority of small vtubers don't even make use of that
I definitely do. I export my VODs to Youtube because I want them to be findable relatively easily and to exist for more than just one week.
