What is /asp/?

A thread for aspiring vtubers! Whether your goal is to make the journey as an independent streamer or to gain experience and build a portfolio for agency auditions. Let's help each other grow and make it. Indies are welcome to selfpost, but shill responsibly. Share your knowledge, insights, feedback, discuss what has worked and what hasn't worked for you. And always remember to do your research before posting personally identifying information. That includes both in this thread and in your audition applications to agencies.

FAQ:
>Do I need a fully rigged model to be a vtuber?
Nope! You can get started as a simple .png character!

>I want to learn how to rig Live2D models, where do I go?
Brian Tsui (of Iron Vertex), Kira Omori and the official Live2D YouTube channels have many tutorials available.

>Where can I find artists/riggers?
vtuber.gg, ArtStation, DeviantArt, Twitter, Reddit, Skeb.jp, etc.

>I just want to get started, can I buy pre-made models?
Yes! Live2D models can be purchased off nizima.com (Live2D's official marketplace) or booth.pm (general Japanese indie artist website). Be sure to check compatibility with your facial tracking software!

>Where can I learn how to digital market myself?
https://learndigital.withgoogle.com/digitalgarage

>Where can I find some good games to stream?
https://twitchtracker.com/games
https://sullygnome.com/

>Twitch or YouTube?
The general rule of thumb is Twitch if your content is primarily based on livestreaming and YouTube if your content is primarily pre-recorded and edited.

>Do you think there's an audience for X, Y, Z content?
First, ask yourself if you would watch a streamer of your skill and experience. Second, do a check on social media and look to see if other streamers are already creating similar content. Don't limit yourself to vtubers, include traditional real life streamers to scope out a potential audience.

It's not actually that hard, you just have to imagine it as a bunch of layers on a drawing, if you move some layers left you have to know what should be drawn behind them. If you really need help then get the example models from live2d and open them up in the editor.
I wish I did that before I finished drawing mine, but mine still turned out well just from eyeballing it.

Also careful about cheap riggers, there are apparently people who steal models, it's why I lrn2rig myself.
If you're going to hire one, make sure they're verified or have good reviews.

Bond would make people sign a contract, modify it without the talent's consent and then not deliver what they promised (video editing, marketing, merch, art and songs) while still taking their cut. On top of that they isolated their talents to prevent them from noticing payment disparity, lack of goods delivering and told to their faces that the viewers are priority so they have to stream games they don't like while also emphasizing that their old viewers don't matter.

Pretty shitty overall.

in comparison to other things, or just in general? I feel like something like HITMAN would be beneficial to share on account of being more expensive, compared to your average indie game anyways. idk if it's different due to local prices but for me it can easily be 6x the price of the average game.

>likely against Steam TOS
well, the official FAQ doesn't help https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/57A7-503C-991F-E9A8. But you can see people in the discussions link at the end asking for "other users who own certain games" to share with them. And in the final FAQ question about a borrower committing fraud, Steam just says:
>"We recommend you only authorize familiar Steam Accounts and familiar computers you know to be secure."

That kinda implies non-family members are okay if you trust them, no? Is my english comprehension just shit?

steam family sharing kicks you no matter the game the other person is trying to play. I don't know about specifically Live2D-focused artists or animators, but speaking from the perspective of someone who works as a freelance artist, let me encourage you to NOT try and haggle on rates with someone you're trying to commission. There is a 100% chance they're already offering you a ridiculous number of hours worked for basically nothing per-hour. There's no shame in asking someone for a quote, I get asked all the time and often am told that it's out of people's budgets, which is fine though also a little insulting because it means they're expecting to pay basically nothing, sometimes you just don't have the budget for what you want. It is what it is.

It's sometimes alright to ask the person you're trying to commission if they're willing to do something smaller within your budget, but honestly the truth is that if you can't afford it, you don't need it right now. If you have money to spend, you have a way to make money, so just wait and save more.

But the worst thing you can do is try and haggle. It tells the person providing the service that you really like their work, you just don't think it's worth what they're asking for it, and it's just in bad taste. If they want to give you a discount or make something cheaper for you, they'll do it, but please don't fucking ask.

Also, and this is the part you're going to hate: Spending money on a popular artist won't make you popular. I've done plenty of work for projects and things that are utter garbage, the art doesn't magically make them worth people's time.

If you have consistency over the past 6 months~ and are not of literal laughable quality (silent streams with a pc fan audibly humming the whole time + a twitter with 100 followers that posts nothing but "hi here's my png" to art raffles) then go for it. Consistency is a top metric for an investment, and a new app (presumably this is on another round of apps?) means you can say you've improved things lately. You may get in as a bit of a dark horse if they get around to you and think you've got what they're looking for. Besides, you never know how many more "popular" choices get filtered out in interviews.

Alright /asp/ I've been wanting to try out vtubing for a while now. I've just got one question I'm mulling over.

I have about 7k followers on a twitter dedicated to porn drawings, I take commissions as a bit of a side hustle. The art's not as good as a typical account with that following, but it's porn & I draw a very niche fetish. It's nothing super disgusting to most people, just very strange and paraphillic. I've had people tell me it's 'cute' I'm into it but never disgust. That said, my drawings are NSFW. Do you reckon I should launch as that identity/tie myself in to it by crossposting my account there, or do you think I should just just another account and try to opsec the two apart as much as I can? It won't be too difficult on the artstyle front - my porn tends to use a more traditional, Western, painted style but I can also sketch anime style pretty well, I'll just use that on my vtubing side.

On the one hand
>An inevitably tiny boost in viewers at the start
>I actually have quite a few acquaintances in my "community," so can get some friendly faces in
>I can really hang back and be myself about my little fetish when appropriate, might be something of a harmless in-joke
>Very unlikely to even want to get to the size where nsfw affiliation holds me back

On the other hand
>May be labeled as a sex pest and a weirdo if I ever so much as look at somebody who turns out was a minor
>Paranoia over the double existence might end up being unbearable
>May get blackballed by larger names and/or corporations (but then again Nyanners is known for a stuatory rape song so?)

Thoughts?

>> No.38551518

I think if you're worried about minors interacting with you that you shouldn't be on Twitter. That ship has probably already sailed. Best you can do is just not be a sex pest. Doesn't matter if a handful of people will call you a sex pest for being aroused by balloons or whatever.
That said, I think whether or not you want to crosspost your vtuber account on that account really just comes down to what kind of streams or videos you're going to make. I don't see why you shouldn't crosspost if you're already planning to make stuff that your current audience might enjoy. If you don't want your fetish to come up at all during your vtuber activity then you probably shouldn't do that. I think you should think about who your target audience is and act accordingly.
Also, I doubt you want to share this, but I have to know what the weird fetish is.

there's been some porn artists that have gone and became vtubers without fully separating from their art like henemimi, minkye and krimbo so i don't think its something you really need to do unless you really don't want any connection

Lots of bigger streamers have other accounts/lives they don't really connect to their streaming persona, whether it be furry porn art or Onlyfans or whatever. It's not really a big deal as long as you just don't generally talk about it constantly or market it on platforms like Twitch or Youtube. Lots of streamers are literally Onlyfans models on the side, Twitch doesn't care as long as you're not linking to that from your page or trying to sell it on your stream, which they will ban you for.

In fact, I'm pretty sure you're allowed to actually do adult art on stream on Twitch as long as you mark it for mature audiences.

you probably are but i'd imagine there's probably a reason why a lot of nsfw artists will still stream their nsfw work on picarto instead
