Homosexuality, it's societal acceptance, and it' ridiculously exaggerated appearance of being a common occurrence. The specter of sex taints platonic intimacy. It hits male friendship harder than female because a dude who is seen as possibly gay/bi has his attraction to the opposite sex lowered much more than a woman suspected of the same.
