Just read through your lore doc and I really like how it paints a clear picture of your nation's identity. That being said, I found the maps a bit hard to read with all the labels from other nations on them. But if I'm interpreting them correctly, then I think you may have misplaced your borders. Looking at the interactive map, it seems like that chunk above the river is supposed to be part of /warkop/.

Just in case you didn't see it last thread I'll post it again

Just a wee reminder. The thread usually discourages any sort of direct invitation to the project especially due to some early pushback. A number of threads you posted in also have or had writers. If you would like to do any sort of invitation please ask in the thread first. But most responses are pretty neutral or even positive which is good. Between all the drama and stuff I personally think we should try to maintain our decorum outside as much as possible.

In this article, Vries discussed the comparative histories of Eastern Empires and European ones before the Great Divergence. Instead of the nations there were taken for granted, like Niall Ferguson's theory of the "killer apps of the west", Vries suggested that the institutional differences were not as straightforward. Democracy and pluralism being a big contributing factor in the West or supposedly the East was more bureaucratic with a much stronger administration (Eastern Despotism), were potentially misconceptions. And rather, industrialization and a series of events that coincidentally stagnated the East are the overwhelming factor that caused Western countries to take over the East after the 17th century.

I have a question for the thread.

I wrote a lore article for /who/ but realized it made assumptions of its Founding War, something which another anon is currently working on. I don't want to step on that anon's toes but I also believe that omitting parts of the article directly talking about that aspect of it would weaken the piece as a whole.

Would it be acceptable if I encoded the lore article in Vigenère cipher for peer review? If so, I will post it in rentry format with a hint in the post for the code phrase.

If you've got any questions or suggestions then asking is the best way to go about it, it's a collaborative project after all, it's not like we can't retcon anything.
Generally the founding war has been kept a slight mystery, in-universe it could easily be chalked up to a lack of records from the era and an effort of suppresion. It does mean that we could have a multiple choice past if it really comes to it.
Encryption is a pretty cool way to do things thought.

Alright, I've decoded it, it was a massive pain in the ass but I've done it.
Again, masterful integration of thread memes into lore, it's pretty impressive.
On the topic of the founding war, as of now there isn't a single great founding war, althought the first notes i wrote about it did imply that a lot, the most recent version of that lore is that the Republic instead went through multiple periods of unrest and conflict until it settled into a peace. I don't know how early modern states conducted their census, but I'm sure we can leave it to the imagination.
The idea of having a fertility festival is interesting, but I'd switch its name to "Spring Festival" instead of sugar rush week and have it start, well, in spring. That way it can fit neatly into a larger "Harvest Season" where the resources to celebrate should be there already.
Temple priests having the ability to officiate weddings makes sense to me, althought I imagine they'd have to get government permits to do that.
Granted, our lack of access to cheap sugar is most certainly the main reason due to why I hesitate to use the sugar rush title.
Having a specific day for military parades in the middle of the celebrations is neat, I've been avoiding any imperial roman influence thought, so coming up with an in-universe reason for that particular type of wear is something we'll have to do sometime.
Conclusion:
Decrypting this was a pain in the ass and it sucked. Never do it again. I hate it.
The lore was neat.

>Generally the founding war has been kept a slight mystery
Well... remember those notes I posted a while back?
But under some reflections I do realize I might've been too autistic and specific on things. For early history paradoxically I was giving a lot of thought to since it has so many implications for the future. For example the family unit and structure. At the same time my autism for filling out all the details may hamper things a little too much. I think I'll tone it down a bit for now. I'll try to make the history of the founding war have more space to accommodate for any future changes. However I think we should still follow the basic flow of it (once it's been completed).

>>38145655
So yes. Really either ask first and write later or wrote it and see if we can sort out the problems. It's something I've encountered too (especially for the history). I'd say just don't be afraid to ask things like Mooms. There's a relative lack of communication between the anons that write for /who/ I've observed. Don't think just do.

That being said, I'm focusing my attention on the conlang and early society these past few days, on how agriculture and governments are organized.

>>38147971
Like that. It has some ideas that I've had in my head for a while now. I can adapt it to things that I've been working on pretty easily. Details like "The final stretch of the Founding War was brutal and saw many casualties." can be changed pretty easily if we do run into some problems later. No need to scrape the whole thing.
I've actually been thinking about how to integrate the wedding cake thing for the past few days so it's great you did it for me kek.
Also I see what you did there...

Republic Owl / Pecпyбликa Филин / République Hibou / 共和国 ワシミミズク
Currency

The republican Beryl is represented by a coin made from 3/5 copper and 2/5 nickel. 25 mm in diameter and 1.75 mm thick. Its design features a feather in one side and a regional marking on the other according to the bank it was minted by.
5 beryls use the same measurements but the mass is changed with 4/5 copper and 1/5 silver, along with a different design featuring the eye of an owl on both sides,
10 beryls onwards use a special paper mixture with specialized design to ensure its validity.
The paper bills are used for 10 beryls, 50 beryls, and 100 beryls. Proposals for larger quantity bills are to be considered whenever the bank regulator agency considers it appropiate.

Minting is done by a variety of private banks and enterprises, all regulated by the national bank, who sends orders of design and changes in minting techniques.
All banks in the Republic recieve a monthly guide on these changes.

Massive changes in wealth, mainly by large sales, are done by a check system where the national bank will officiate it, local banks will have to mail it to the national bank and as a result they may take longer than smaller wealth exchanges.

Would you mind if I delved into the Founding War again at some point in the future? I can assure you it won't be anything ambitious like a pitched battle and I'll run the subject of my thoughts by you in the event I get the urge to write about it.
If you don't mind my asking, do you currently have a name for the official Hooman language? I have the language referenced in a rough draft or two but didn't see anything in the loredoc in regards to what to call the tongue.
>family unit and structure
Funny you should mention that. I've actually got an idea on the function of the standard Hooman family but didn't get more than a paragraph in. If you want, I can send the points I have written down.

>>38157075
gomen on the whole cipher thing. I guess my paranoia got ahead of me there.
I'm down to change the name to Spring Festival. Rolls off the tongue better. My original idea for it taking place in the week leading up to November 11 is because that was Mumei's "four stream appearances" day, but due to its proximity to the Day of Souls and Ghosts I can get behind it taking place in spring instead of autumn. Will the 17th day of the 4th month work?
Hmm... I actually drew quite a bit from Roman triumphal marches when I wrote about the parades. Might have to do some more research into the matter.
Something I forgot to write down was the idea that those marching would wear deliberately antiquated attire to emphasize how they're exaggerating accounts of the past, and that the crested helm (which I will edit to point out was never worn in battle by any military officer if you don't mind I keep it in) would be the given example of this.
In any case, I'm definitely going to put the (now translated to the common tongue) rentry through some revisions to accommodate your input.

Also, while I was away, it occurred to me that there might be a few things worth adding or editing alongside you guys' critiques and observations. Thanks for looking through it!

>do you currently have a name for the official Hooman language?
Not yet. However I think the endonym for the people that lives in the Republic should be a conlang word that sounds like the English pronunciation of the word "hooman". So the tongue (which is most likely a "High" version of the commonly spoken language) should probably be called something similar as well.

>If you want, I can send the points I have written down.
Please do. I'm reading on agriculture rn and would like to expand on the organization of rural communities.

I think for festivals it doesn't really have to be spaced out so much. But the best advice I'd say is to have the celebration be less grand than our Halloween equivalent. You only see sugar rush being talked about in the thread but not celebrated (since, well it didn't really happen this year at the same time). Sure when it happened in universe there was probably some big celebration though it'd probably be remembered more as an event rather than becoming a continued tradition.

>> No.38194679

>>38192812
Here's the gist of what I have for Hooman families. As you can probably tell, the thing I had planned involved a specific member of that unit.
>Upon accepting that they can no longer contribute to the Republic itself due to age and/or disability, Hoojisans dedicate themselves to their families (specifically the grandkids)
>Both parents work to support the household while grandparent(s) take care of home upkeep (cleaning the backyard owlhouse, tending to gardens, etc.)
>Not unusual for grandparent-grandchild relations to be more fond than parent-child relations due to both parental figures out of the house working.
>Family recipes and similar things generally skip a generation.
Do with this what you will.

As for the festival the thought did occur to me while I was afk to trim the duration. Besides the (rather valid) point you brought up, the list of activities mentioned seems a bit... sparse to take place over the course of an entire week.
I'm open to the idea of making the initial 600 Hours just a week that then got condensed into a single day. In fact I can even picture the folk songs aspect merging with the parades...
Then again, if there shouldn't be as much pomp to it, maybe it'd be best to cut the parade aspect as a whole. That seems like it might be a good idea actually, since that seems to be the thing I'm least confident in as is.

Anyway, I need to pack things up for the night.

>> No.38232122

Hmm, then you need to address the loophole that rape doujins tend to overlook, what to do when someone is unhappy about the rape. You need an underclass of people who can be raped by professional rapists in impunity and do not have the means, military, financial, or political, to retaliate. Peasants work decently for that.
Another option is to make rape a good thing, IE, people are usually happy to get raped. Getting raped could be spun as some kind of theological blessing, god knows that's a common enough hentai trope. Perhaps the raped person would get high quality MQ out of it. It does kinda make rape consensual-esque, somewhat.
Ah, you could also have the government compensate rape victims. That could perhaps preserve the sanctified horror of rape better. You might expect pro rapist to be a frequent target of hate crime though, especially if they're egalitarian in the selection of their victims.

Hmm, I like that. City wide rape tax for victim therapy, makes alot of sense. Actually I think a few of those could also be used, maybe you if you don't pay the rape tax you're marked as a consensual non-consenter, some will do this on purpose and others are either just cheap, poor, or stupid and have to worry about getting fondled for MQ in an alleyway.
Rape could also grant a very particularly big MQ bonus so maybe alot of people do just wander around at night hoping to get a rape raise, whether they're actually into it and see it as a good service or at just down on their luck.
The only thing I'm not sure on is the underclass part since going to rape college to only rape peasants and aphrodisiac addicts seems like a waste, pro rapists would make sure that no matter what hold ups the victim has mentally, their body is 100% down for it and that skill can't be wasted.

i have had disagreements with him a few times before. i never viewed him as someone with all that much stamina for continuing a conversation to a resolution. in fact, i recall one of the first times i got into a real conversation with him, he misunderstood something i said and then immediately refused to listen to anything that looked like it was written by me, so i would get no response if i explained how it was a misunderstanding, and that i didn't mean to upset him.
i think that happened multiple times, actually. we got over it and figured out a way to work better with each other, but at the beginning it felt a bit like walking on eggshells when i was dealing with him. even more than with others. granted, i am basically the origin of the majority of timeloops, and almost all of the major timeloops, that have occured since this thread began. it was inevitable that mixing an incompetent wordsmith with an esl would get this result, but saying he kept conversations going until a resolution was found sounds like the opposite thing i would say about him.

>It sounds like you're suggesting putting them in sweatshops and selling them off to hags.
pretty much. adoption and child-care would probably be important industries to keep up to encourage people to have more children, or not worry so much about pregnancy. rape would be seen in a "life gives you lemons" sort of way. something that inevitably just happens sometimes, and that you have to deal with like anyone else.

i remember that one of the bigger instances was when he wanted to use the existence of souls in a way that interacted with our chuubanite, ie, he wanted a separate metaphysics/magic system to help him make his chuubanite able to discriminate in it's effects based on each individual by interacting with their soul. i said that if souls existed in this setting, they would exist in the conceptual realm, and that we couldn't have two magic systems. he interpreted it as me saying i didn't believe in souls, and that nobody else could have souls in their lore because i don't like them. he then ignored everything i said afterwards until a few days later, and i gave him some suggestions of how he could make chuubanite discriminate based on individuals, which led to what i refer to as "artificial glyphs" which can create ties between different concepts, including the concept of a person which represents their "soul".
i think there was another time he refused to have a conversation with me, which would make him one of the rarer instances of someone who gave me the silent treatment twice. also, i guess this was more recent, but didn't he leave because he was upset that other people didn't read his mind when he wanted to make his lore a surprise, and people started making lore that accidentally conflicted with the lore he was secretly making in the background? the guy would have benefitted more if he communicated more is all i am saying.

Hi! Mostly doing chores to keep my place somewhat liveable. As for /kr/ I haven’t written a lot related to it because I don’t want to railroad you or others too hard, but here’s the list
>prehistoric
Humans probably came to /vnug/ from /kr/ along the west coast. They spoke a Koreanic language that became the /vnug/ language once it got adapted by the indigenous elves and proto-palkyries
>ancient
A local power bordering /vnug/ by the west coast conquered the old Ethernation and maybe Penel. It led to the formation of old Symphoria that might have reconquered Penel and Etherna
>medieval
Old Mujigae likely conquered both of us at some point. You’ll have to ask Mechaffyna for more but I haven’t seen them around lately
>near-modern
We both became freer after old Mujigae collapsed. /vnug/ fought quite a lot with the local garrison

If you are on such good terms with him, then why did he stress you out and wanted him out of the phase war?
Also again, this is not to blame anyone in particular, but can you really not see how these events affected him and he went into a downward spiral from them? I am not saying what you did was vile or he is without fault. But acting like those events never happened or that you guys were fine with each other is being dishonest.

Right changed some composition and size of the coins, also added a new coin. Now all the coins are pretty similar in both their real value and represnetitive value so the risk of criminal debasement for them is pretty low.

***
The Republican Beryl is represented by a coin made from red brass (9/10 copper, 1/10 zinc). 25 mm in diameter and 2.25 mm thick. Its design features a feather on the obverse and a regional marking on the reverse, according to the bank it was minted by.
5 Beryl coins have the same measurements as 1 Beryl coins. The alloy is changed to 1/10 copper and 9/10 silver, along with a different design, featuring the eye of an owl on the obverse side and a plumed helmet on the reverse side.

The subunit of Beryl, a "Talon" is valued at 1/5 of a Beryl. Its diameter is 15 mm with the thickness of 1.75 mm. Its metal content is 9/20 copper, 8/20 Zinc and 3/20 nickel. On its observe is a traditional spearhead of the Republic, and a galloping horse on the reverse. Though as its namesake, an Owl's talons are no longer featured on most of the coin in circulation, it is also known as a Fifth outside of the Republic.
A demi-talon, valued at 1/10 of a Beryl has the same exact dimension as the normal Talon. Though it's completely made of Zinc. Its observe design is a resting Owl and the reverse design the Escutcheon of the Republic

Currency valued 10 Beryls upwards use a special paper mixture with hard to imitate designs to ensure its validity.
The paper bills are issued for 10 beryls, 50 beryls, and 100 beryls. Its observe features natural scenery and famous mountains or rivers of the Republic. On its reverse side are the payment pledge and information of the bank which issued the bills. Proposals for larger quantity bills are to be considered whenever the bank regulator agency considers it appropriate.

Minting is done by a variety of private banks and enterprises, all regulated by the national bank, who sends orders of design and changes in minting techniques. All banks in the Republic receive a monthly guide on these changes.

Massive changes in wealth, mainly by large sales, are done by a check system where the national bank will officiate it, local banks will have to mail it to the national bank and as a result they may take longer than smaller wealth exchanges.

How the hell do you come up with the metal ratio to these things? Is it all just based on historical precedence or is there some kind of system you use in order to figure it out?
I assume some if it is linked to value of the metals in their regions so did you base some of this off of the minerals most likely to reside in your land.

Red brass is a common copper alloy. The silver used to make the 5 Beryl coins is called coin silver. Fifths are paktong, Chinese copper-nickel.
All are relatively easy to work cold so, realistically they can be minted.

But you don't have to be as autistic as me. I think the value they represent matters more than their exact method of minting. Just make it so your lower valued coins aren't significantly more expensive than ones with a bigger value. Unless you want your country's finance to be relateively unregulated and messy (I guess idk how to describe it). Since it give speople incentive to melt them down even when there's some kind of capital punishment attached to it.

And anyone who rhinks alice drove or whoever drove me out. Alice actually was wilking to talk things out with me after i left and there is no more bad blood between us.

and for the thing with emma, she actually came to me once to apologize about it and while i might feel that the conversation got stuck, the issue with her nonetheless is done. Don't act like you know it all or rhat you now suddenly care about me

Hanafag is the same, we might never gotten to fully talk things out but we forgave each other.

stop bringing up stuff from the past over and over and move on, i left the project and what i wanted to write to take responsibilty for my own actions that are the root of many issues in the project and so you guys can move back to more fun. not so you can continue shitflingibg stuff from the past or use me to pull down people that i personally regret a lot of those things.

No clue how that phasing into the floor stuff can work, maybe left over Magic Q from grizzly transformation?
I like the idea of it being a fairly small empty land of beautiful architecture and scenery but ultimately generally empty as the Soratomo population became smaller and smaller over time, migrating to build up and join other nations and the like.

You can grab whatever unoccupied island you want, bit there's a shit ton of gun monkeys and whatever fucked up monster that we can conjure on the island that you're gonna need to get rid of.
It's immaculate nanora.

i thought there was one other time, but if you say so, i suppose i’ll concede to that interpretation. also, it’s nice to hear back from you. i understand you might not want to come back, or do any lore or what not, but many of us do miss having you around, so i hope we can at least hear from you every now and then, but if not, then i understand.

I want to write more but this week has been crushing so far… I wonder how large a settlement can be while still being somewhat mobile by being built with tents and carts and such

I’m glad to hear that you enjoy her as well! She does ASMR if that’s what you’re into. She also plans to do TTRPG streams as GM so that’s based as well

Unfortunately, as another anon has said, there aren't many ways you can make a musket "cool" since it's just basically a tube with a trigger mechanism. However you can copy something like the Kalthoff repeaters which were built for elite bodyguards. Just hire somebody from /vspo/ or something. /luna/ could also use match or wheel lock primarily since even though it's bordering /hlgg/ its much more traditionalist society has resisted technological changed in firearms technology, so most regular musketeers use relatively outdated guns. Another way to make your guys more unique is to describe the uniform they wear. Are they more "exotic" like the Tirailleurs in their time? Also describing how traditional /luna/ firearms are decorated can go a long way towards making your guys more unique too. Think how different Afghan jezails are engraved compared to European ones. Therwise what really matters is usually training, how they fight and are trained (in a more stratified society, perhaps how they are recruited and viewed as well).
I tried to give some of the firearms in /who/ some a name for their pattern or nicknames but I need to go back and change them to conlang names preferably

The Republic as of ~1130 is starting to adopt cap technology. So needle guns are still some way off. /kfp/ do have needle guns, however iirc they are made with Kiwawa chuubanite.

Hmm, I guess we'll need to wait a while longer before regional firearm diversity is actually wide-spread and a big thing and I can candiyify out guns. I envision lunaitos using pink firearms with gold curls, very elegant patterns since musketeers are specialized.

Heating your metal to be the color you want is not uncommon. Steel has a spectrum of temperatures you can heat to change color.

I think you're focusing on the end product when you can make your firearms more interesting through other means. Think up of who owns the patent of your musket and how they get paid ( or who you're importing guns from and the cost), who and where do your guns come from? Who decides what gets adopted and how many spares do you keep in reserve? At least those are my thoughts on this topic, sure different looking guns are a way to make them stand out but how they got into your army's inventory and who danced fancy enough to get that government payout can be interesting as well

The general colors are straw, blue, purple, red, orange, gold, and white. Its temper oxidation colors I think. You can look up the full spectrum.
