She is not actually dying but has like Fibromaligia or something similar where she feels weak or completely drained all the time. My friend has Chronic fatigue it is similar, And he gets treatments 2x a month and it really helps, from Accupuncture. Mouse says she takes Plasma so i'm uncertain what her condition is. But she is not actually dying, just is very weak.

b.) that although it can't be cured (at least right now, probably gene therapy will fix it eventually), with proper treatment, you literally can live a normal healthy long life with it. no bubble boy mode etc.
c.) she has had proper treatment and has for years
d.) modern treatments didn't exist and/or she couldn't afford them so initially years ago, actually-was quite ill from it and a lot of shit in her body got damaged from the disease.
e.) however, while existing, this damage has been put on pause indefinitely and whatever is permanent can't be fixed as it's not the disease, but secondary lasting effects.

I'm a burg and always thought of them as literally the 51st state. Although there are a few of those technically like Guam etc, PR has an actual population like a state, has lots of people from it who have moved to the US, you can literally send mail through the post office to there as if it's any other normal US state. But they also mostly speak Spanish (although many are bilingual), and the most-Americanized ones might already be here.

They voted to become a complete normal US state (I think twice now) and IMO our gov just drags its heels on it because it looks like an imperial power play out of the 1800s + also their economy would be a net drag as it's pure balls (which is a good part of why they want to be full-US to begin with) and they'd be a huge sap on social systems. we'd have to rebuild it every 10 years when a hurricane smashes it up etc. it's like the total opposite of stuff like ukraine or hong kong where the big state takes over or forcefully tries to out of butthurt but the US is like, "yeah we see you there, we heard you want in. let's uh.. wait on that" indefinitely.
