I was looking at applying to some corp (Kawa or something) that was at least theoretically open to males, but saw that one condition to joining was doing a certain proportion of your streams on YouTube. To me this seems like a huge red flag. These corps can't possibly understand the market if they think streaming on YouTube at that point is a good idea. There is a valid (but still usually wrong) argument for starting your vtubing career on YouTube, but switching from twitch after you already have an established fanbase is just the height of foolishness. It just reeks of their management just trying to emulate nijis and Holo, which could work if they want to put the large amount of money and time to promote their new talents, but you know these tiny corps won't. They aren't even providing new models to their new hires, there is no way in hell they are going to try to promote an already debuted vtuber to the point that they can get a reasonable start on a new platform like YouTube.

YouTube is only the better option if you build an audience on the platform before you start streaming. Whether that is through dropping boatloads of money on marketing, having already massively successful corpo coworkers shilling you, getting subscribers through prerecorded high quality edited videos, or by getting subscribers through YouTube shorts. But if you are just starting out and all you have is a model and the ability to press the go live button then twitch is the better choice every time.

That's not to say you can't multistream to both YouTube and twitch though. Though now that I think about I have never seen someone get good numbers on either platform while multistreaming.

Oh and to add to your actual question. There probably are a few advantages to streaming on YouTube but I can do not think of one major one right now. Firstly, you can use YouTube shorts (and regular videos too, but shorts are much more accessible to the new channel because of algorithm shit) to more directly advertise your stream. YouTube shorts can be used just fine for a twitch streamer too of course but 99.9% of people just won't ever click through to your twitch even if they really liked your short and subbed to your channel. Getting very lucky with shorts is theoretically the fastest way to increase viewership quickly outside of networking with bigger creators, but I still haven't really seen it done all that successfully before.

Yep, massively crippling the viewership of half of your streams for no reason is pretty fucking stupid. The only reason you should switch to streaming on YouTube from an already established twitch channel is if YouTube is giving you a great deal to do that or you somehow went viral on your YouTube channel from clips or something and it has become larger than your twitch. It can sometimes be the right choice but making that a blanket part of your contract without even looking at it on a chuuba to chuuba basis just makes them sound foolish. It is absolutely not the right strategy for most indies to do this kind of thing.

That might just apply to people trying to turn short popularity into full length video views. As far as I understand it, viewers of live streams are almost entirely made up of people who are your subscribers. YouTube doesn't seem to do much of anything algorithmically to promote live streams from what I have heard (which is part of the reason why live streaming is so difficult to start on YT). So I think the strategy is if you can turn shorts at least into some subscribers you can basically turn that into viewers of your future live streams, or at least a small fraction of those subs. It seems like one of the few ways you can get your YouTube stream out in front of new eyes.

I uploaded to both for a while and TikTok did much better to start with but over time TikTok just seemed to completely stop showing my videos to people completely. Like they suddenly started getting 0 views after multiple videos getting 500+. No idea why that happened either.

The cynic in me can't help but think that TikTok really promotes new channels and then completely drops them so that you are tempted to pay for their video promoting advertising, but that is just speculation. I kind of gave up doing TikTok after that so I can't say for sure.

It probably does, at least a little bit. There is a reason basically every popular content creator does it. Nothing the top of the top of the content creators do isn't calculated to get them growth in some way.

It also kind of goes off that old psychological trick that people often use to get others to like them. If you can get a person to do a small favor for you you can often get them to convince themselves that the reason they are doing it for you is that they like you (even if they didn't before they did the favor for you). It may sound weird but it is actually well studied. So in a way asking them and successfully getting them to like and subscribe is actually much better than them just liking and subscribing on their own. You can get a slightly more devoted fanbase in this way.
