The thing is we have public statistics on how that panned out. Over the Luxiem/Noctyx period the girls' SC income was cut by 50% or more while stress, drama 'scandals' and amount of breaks skyrocketed. On its own that would be catastrophic damage to the branch, essentially wiping out half of the girls' work in the course of a few months. HOWEVER, Luxiem went viral on Bilibili and became an overnight Chinese phenomenon. The huge influx of money and viewers from Asia allowed Anycolor to paper over the massive damage dealt to the English-speaking NA fanbase the girls had spent the past year cultivating.

Saying 'we're going to emulate the Luxiem model' is like saying your plan hinges on winning the Powerball like that other guy did. It's delusional - you can't 'plan' for winning the lottery, and the evidence was out even back then that without that huge stroke of luck in a completely unrelated market, the male waves would have been actual toxic poison for NijiEN as a business.

HoloEN management pre-Tempus debut was basically completely delusional. If (big if) they looked at the evidence at all, it looks to me like they apparently concluded they could tank the damage to the original audience because Tempus would go even more viral than Luxiem did. We're talking levels of suicidal overconfidence and separation from reality that shouldn't be possible, from people who presumably are being paid good money to avoid those kinds of mistakes.

The part that makes me seethe more than anything else is knowing that sunk cost fallacy and the paradox of choice is the only thing keeping tens of thousands of vtuber fans watching substandard content because they have no idea what else is out there and don’t have a very reliable way to figure this out.
The subreddit for virtual youtubers is basically a glorified /asp/, while the only half-decent place to actually get information on vtubers is this godforsaken hellhole, and you have to be here for a few weeks or months to figure out when anons are shitting up the boards/actually schizo and when they’re actually making legitimate points.

Really, all they had to do to tank the damage was limit the number of male collabs. My rrat was that they intended this to be a “look, the girls can collab with males, are we cool now?” kind of thing, and they expected the girls to know that spamming collabs would tank their own views and that most people just naturally…don’t want them (not even femanons, who don’t want females in their Tempus streams).
They probably didn’t anticipate just how badly Mori wanted to own the haters, just how little Kronii understood the reason for her popularity, and just how hard it was for Ame to say “This is the first time enough people are willing to play the group games I’ve always wanted to plan, please just let me have this and I’ll make it up to you later” instead of being a gremlin.
