Apparently I just don't know how to actually quit something since I tried yet another anya embed. At this point it's less because I want the embed and more just because I wanted to know what was going wrong, and I was pretty sure it wasn't any of the settings (triple checked those) or the dataset (it has some limitations but wasn't awful and no one said anything about it when I linked it here.

So I figured it might be the graphics card, bought a bit of time on google colab premium, and trained it there. It's still not amazing, takes a lot of extra descrption tags to really get an Anya and seems to have a high rate of generating extra legs, but I think it's good enough to say that it actually did work this time.

Which I guess confirms that graphics card is more than just generation speed. Just because your gpu CAN handle the training at some super slow pace doesn't mean you'll get anything good out of it if you wait that long.

I might try training an 8 token one on the same data just to compare them and then link whichever one worked better? I don't know I'm still not totally satisfied with it

NTA, and not even a webui user, but from what little I do remember reading, xformers are like GPU-specific optimizations that you can load in. by my grug mentality, the "best" embeds would be the ones generated at full precision, no VRAM limitations, no xformers. so CPU anon with his gobs of RAM or myself if I ever set it up could technically still also make "the best" stuff, it would just be painfully slow.

I made sure I didn't have this on for any of my training. It really was all the same settings and data, just a better graphics card and that resulted in a better embed. Makes me think there's some sort of limiting going on out of sight somewhere, maybe not necessarily in VRAM but it could be in operation speed or simultaneous operations or something.

I guess I may as well check out xformers too if I find the time, always nice to get a look at what all the options are even if it turns out to not be as good

I disagree strongly on wanting an embed for everything. You're working with far less data, and you're tagging it automatically using deepbooru. IIRC, NAI used the actual booru tags from each image. And while some of the embeds look amazing, some of them consistently make images that look melty like I've mentioned in the past...I'd have to see it make e.g. Fubuki or Marine better, and ALWAYS better, than the model for it to even be worth it. "shirakami fubuki" - no masterpiece, no best quality. everything is there. no embed = I have more control, and can dial an outfit in as I want it.

and FWIW you can reduce the deepbooru threshhold, default is 0.5? to get more info but its been working fine so far and the lesser weighted tags are usually redundant anyway.

That's not an L, it's working as intended. You can sometimes get Marine with monochromatic eyes that look like a brownish-orange average of yellow/red if you don't include "heterochromia". Added.

"JPEG Artifacts" was definitely the most interesting, you can consistently see what it did to all of them. I think I might switch to using "none" as the exclude preset with the defaults pasted in there so I can move JPEG Artifacts over into the includes for proompts that make me question my life choices. ofc, my go to seed for maririn reactions is so fucking good that even with the shite tags in there and removed from the excludes, with masterpiece in the excludes, the image is good...

Pic is comparison of the 3 anyas I have after all this mess. Top row is xformers & 4 tokens, middle row is xformers & 8 tokens that was set to train to 100k (oops) but I stopped it at 10k, bottom row is no xformers & 8 tokens, with --precision full --no-half as command line arguments. All from the same dataset. The last one needs a bit of extra strengthening on the tag to really look like her. Personally I prefer the middle one.

Yeah, if an embed is good, see the luna one. you should only need minimal promts to get the character. I do tests with my normal quality tags, embed name, 1girl, standing. It usually knows something with a little bit of help so you can adjust further from there if you think its good.

Troubleshooting an embed here is really tough but as im getting used to it myself when I think I really havnt done anything wrong or changed any settings thats producing good results its the training or the data itself. Idk how to explain it yet properly for a guide.

Could be better but some of these are fairly anya-ish and the ways they aren't are usually easy to fix, like the purple eyes. Still not as good as the luna though.

I did this on a paid google colab, which unfortunately constantly changes its cost based on overall usage making it very hard to tell how much it cost, but I'd estimate that it's about $1.50 USD to train a 10k embed. With prices going up if you're dumb like me and don't get it right first time. Pretty good value actually if you really want an embed for something and don't own a good enough computer to do it yourself, but expensive enough that I don't want to just be constantly training embeds especially when I seemingly still haven't totally figured out how to make them good.
