The problem is that he has a very Japanese sensibility when it comes to mixing and buries the vocalist in the music, which is the opposite of how Western music traditions go. Even people like T-Pain who're autotuned out the ass stand in front of their music. This is also related to why vocaloids have never caught on in the West, since we place such a high emphasis on the voice of the singer compared to wanting pitch perfection at the cost of that. You'd have to go searching deeper then I care to to find the underlying cultural reasons for it, but there does seem to be a shift away from that in style of music dominating in Japan in the recent years as they've got more exposed to Western music so hopefully the producers and mixers in Japan will start to figure out how to handle voices with a bit less of a heavy hand outside of the big AAA industry.

Hiragana and katakana are easy. You can knock them out in a week. Kanji is more annoying, but you're going to have to learn the vocab either way so you might as well try to learn all the pictographs the words are associated with at the same time.

It's much more to do with their small time music producers, and especially the more otaku ones, being used to working with vocaloids, then related to actual idol culture, I feel. No preference. At the very start I was actually kind of so-so on the original design because I thought the face looked kinda weird and thought the spikes on the cape were a bit much and such, but seeing the model in motion (helped along excellently by Mori's expert use of it) changed my mind quickly. Grew to love it. Given that, the new outfit was a slam dunk out of the gate by combining the already great design with her own personal taste. Seeing her have so much fun with it puts a smile on my face, and I'm glad she recognizes that both designs have their place and that she'll use them interchangeably depending on the stream. The only thing that could make it better is if the jacketless version gets rigged eventually, but that's just to my own taste. I've made peace with it not being an option now, but hold onto vague hope for the future.
