I can't speak for smaller companies but when I fell into the rabbithole my one friend also into vtubers at the time would send me nijisanji clips. They were alright but I'd constantly be daunted at the sheer number of talents in that company and not really dig deeper. At the time, Hololive had around like...30 talents and Nijisanji had 90+ I think. Felt easier to get to know the smaller batch and I was already having alot of fun with the clips and streams.

At the end of the day, I just really can't understand why anyone would treat someone else who has strong feelings for them the way she treated those people. I don't really give a shit whether she understood their love for her or not, but once she became aware of it at all, there were far better ways of refusing their request then essentially calling them virgin losers. These are the people who had been supporting her for a year. They've been there for her since the beginning. They're the entire reason she even has this easy life and she had just got done telling them how grateful she was during her anniversary stream while holding back tears.

That's actually an excellent point and something I've been thinking of myself as of late. This situation feels a lot like the Easy Mode beggars timeloop we go through every time a new Souls game comes out.

What attracts a lot of people to Vtubers is the inherent escapism, because it's just so much easier to detach yourself from reality when you're staring at something that isn't real. Hololive leaned hard into this, possibly without even consciously realizing it.
