Most houses can stand hurricanes here, just not many that can stand category 5 ones with 160mph winds for such a prolonged period of time. Even your stone house would have significant roof damage. Americans can build stone houses and brick houses, but most choose not to. Many would rather have a big house made from prefab frame pieces that gets built in a few months and maximizes the floor space to one that can take several times longer and would require space saving for cost reasons.
