As an indie a lot of his success was due to branding as an honest, hardworking guy who proved that male indies could make it back when there weren't any big ones who didn't have money and connections. There is literally nothing wrong about accepting collabs and events that get eyes on you. There are plenty local vtubers that dont reach out at all beyond the circle of local vtubers and stagnate at somewhere between 20-50 viewers (3-10 if male). Have to admit I didnt follow his twitter activity that much and not watching all his content, but he basically took part in slightly bigger group collabs where the point was exposure of everyone (those takahata bar streams) or when someone wanted to collab with him too. I think one of the bigger things that got eyes on him and got bigger chuubas to collab with him is that there were showcases of "more western vtuber designs" and he got grouped into it together with honeygoblin who had quite a lot of viewers.
I dont remember him doing particularily much FOTM. Did basically what he streams now.
