1. having been one to throw this idea into the ring in the first place and firmly beleiving that even if this comes with it's own problems that overall this will be better than the map as it is. A full Yes from me.
2. Seeing as of right now there is still the potential of /dsw/ and more stuff comes from nijisanji all the time i think 4 would be overall good tho i prefer the left side of 2. if new threads need to be put into Anykaria i think it is not the best to shrink /2434/ or /nijiEN/ because those nations will already face the issue of having to make place for new cultures representing new chuubas of those branches already and so having space open might be better.

Wooden spoons and ladles are aplenty, knives are made of cast iron and sharpened stones. Bowls and dishes are also wooden but typically saplings do not use any kind of silverware and eat with their hands or drink directly from their bowls.

Makes sense. Fresh leaves have too much moisture in them to burn. Alternatively you can put a red hot stone in a ceramic bowl to boil water to steam things.

>>33886549
Well as long as you have stoneware you can make lots of things. Perhaps you can trade with Hoomans to get iron cauldrons pots and pans to cook other things. Still you can do a lot with stoneware. Frying eggs, crushing flour to cook hotcakes on, etc. Saplings don't eat eggs. Just saying that as an example.

Ohh thanks a lot! I actually thought about having a specific pronoun for manmade objects to reflect the civilisation theme but since saplings and maybe the brrats would also use it I'm a bit reluctant to add it in. Since whatever the saplings or brrats speak would probably be a dialect of the Hooman language, or at least a very close relative. I'm not sure if such a big change in basic language rules can be applied to a dialect of the language.

why would it? it can always just, you know, not exist in other dialects. who even says hooman is the main dialect?
the real question is, would this artificial pronoun have it's own reflexive?

i read that as "single" at first and was afraid you were about to make jamaican patois but worse. that's fine, it's not an uncommon convention to simplify pronouns, god knows english did it, we used to have 8 different ways to say "you", now we just have 3 we took from the 4 plural versions.
speaking of which, accusative means the subject of the sentence (i.e. 'i' did this) and nominative means object (i.e. this happened to 'me'). i don't know if you care to have these but it's the same as old english "thee" which is accusative and "thou" which is nominative, if you want a frame of reference

For /meat/, it's the skeggøx, or bearded axe. It's a tool and weapon that most probably predated the arrival of the cultists. The long, cleaver-like cutting edge makes it a fairly effective cutting weapon against flesh and bones, while still light enough to allow for some degree of control. The natural grip behind the axe allows for the user to have finer control of the blade if needed, and the hook is sometimes used to disarm enemies or bypass their defence.
The cultists still prefer obsidian blades in rituals for their precision, but the skeggøx's versatility and simple (yet elegant, as some might say) design still make them a symbol of /meat/ adaptability and gumption.
Nowadays, most /meat/ warriors and soldiers have adopted more sophisticated weapons like poleaxe and halberd, but axes of similar design are still commonly used by lumberjacks and woodworkers, and some /meat/heads still carry them for utility and symbolic reasons. Due to their ubiquity, some local levies might also be spotted using them as their main melee weapon.

For me, I'd think that besides the halberd, we'd have sabres for the troops.
As for firearms, since we focus on close-ranged combat the soldiers would use something like a blunderbuss or musketoon.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musketoon
And finally, axes don't die, they just got an upgrade.

Would we? We don't really have much of a cavalry, and the tropical thicket probably requires something more similar to machete to clear (assuming the axe won't cut it... heh).
As for firearms, I don't know if those have acceptable accuracy even in close range, but if so, I can see them being used as well.

The issue would be more on Elaine's side as she would want to be considerate on one side but also wants to do stuff by the book and officially and make a good showing, if she just flat out asked for Antoine to get on her ship and handle Sherah, for her the issue would be that this could be seen as Elaine not able to handle a VIP and needing help from an outside nation. So she would come up with this roundabout way of doing it.

these votes are supposed to be about important and long lasting decisions and if liek 1/4 of the voters seem to just vote because "oh there is a vote, better quickly put one in, what are the questions? oh yeah sur i will jsut say yes, seems what others pick too."

this is of course being over dramatic of what probably is goign on but still feels a bit worrysome if stuff just seems to get glossed over, makes me actually wonder how many people have looked at the provision rentry before voting.

there is a difference.

voting for abstain means you are not particular about the option as it stands and would rather have the subject pushed back and talked about more

while not voting for it at all is actually if you do not care and thus do not want to have an input on the vote.

>>33952358
people have pointed it out when it happened yes, i just wanted to appeal to people that vote to carefully consider the vote and not just have it be a menial taks they have to quickyl get done

also since maybe to some the abstain/not voting thing might not have been obvious please let me give an example:

lets say a some random vote comes up that needs 50% of approval to get through

if 10 people are eligible to vote, 3 of those vote for yes, 1 votes for no and 6 vote for abstain then the result would be:
30% yes | 10% no | 60% abstain
the vote would not go through and would then need to be reconsidered.

if 10 people are eligible to vote, 3 of those vote for yes, 1 votes for no and then 6 simply do not vote for the option at all, the result would be:
75% yes | 25% | no | no abstain
the vote would go through as enough peopel approve of it that care.

so abstainign is if you do care for the vote but are not satisfied as it stands so far while not voting for it at all is an option for those that do not care for the vote and would be fine either way.
it is a legit option for those that feel they do not want to be involved in a certain vote and rather leave it to thos ethat care.

1.) Y, I've discussed possible downsides in the thread. Some of the concerns have been addressed, for some there weren't any ideas on how they could be addressed, but overall the Province system is a major improvement over the current mess with new nation placement. I fully support its implementation.
2.) 4, same as before, if we're going with the provincial system, which seems to be the case. I'd argue that /warkop/ could even be placed using the provincial system as a test of it.

some people simply said "yes" for the /warkop/, not choose an option of how at all and dragonsis even voted based on a diceroll first basicly before she changed it. i simply felt that people should not vote because they feel it is a menial task that they need to get done with to be over with it quickly but to consider the votes and if there is something they don't care for than they should consider simply not voting for it at all and let it be decided by those that care.

this is not about /warkop/ itself but rather how people seem to treat the voting.

let's go to the extreme and say we would have a vote to completly and utterly change the map that would change everything.

now we have 10 people for that vote eligible, of those 10 people 2 really want to change it because they prefer the new setup but 4 people really would rather not because it would remove months of detailed lore they set up based on the current map and then 4 people that think "well i barely got lore set up yet and what i have i can just copy paste over with basicly no changes."

then the 2 that want to change vote first and the 4 that don't actually care simpyl also go yes because it matters not to them and they jsut saw the other 2 before them say yes so they also go yes to be done with voting.

Would that really be a good basis to then go through with that decision when actually more people would rather not?

It's good logical and this explaination needs to be understood. You don't have to vote for all options, it's like when you vote IRL, you can leave a blank ballot. We ought to have a conversation about that in particular honestly.

But those that said yes, I think as from WARsuner voted last time right and corrected their mistake. Likely just simple mistakes we all make, but they all did fix it. Multiple Options votes seem to have issues like this, and it probably is because the way the vote is said. Instead of just saying (Aye/Nay/Abstain) it should be (Aye/Nay/Abstain) and Choose of the following Options (1, 2, 3, 4.)

I owe you an apology give how I treated you. In retrospect, it was my own lack of understand that caused me to say what I said and I hope you would forgive this hot head for jumping into a converstion I didn't belong in. My opinion of you is not negative at all, heat of the moment may have made it seem that way, but its not true. I hope you are feeling better as well.

it is fine, something about my initial wording seems to have been wrong as others also thought i was saying soemthing alogn the line of what you thought yesterday.

i also understand that some like warsuner simply made a mistake, but with a big change like the province system being voted on right now which we won't be able to reverse that easily once it is voted in and in active use, i jsut wanted this out since it seemed like some voted more because they felt the need to get it done with rather than actually caring for it, and i even if it is something i am in favour of, i rather not have something voted in that in reality might actually be detrimental to the majority it could affect.

as someone eligible to vote this conversation affects you just as much so of course you are free to give your opinion on it. i am not trying to make myself "holier than thou" or try to undermine anyone in their voting. if everyone votes with good conscience about their votes then there is no issue at all. not everyone needs to make a paragraph explaining their vote. and the fact you might have gotten a bit heated about the misudnerstanding just proves to me that you did in fact vote with good conscience so i will not look down on that.

Ah right. It's a decently sized port. Probably a regional capital as well. Expect the docks to be fairly large and numerous. Warehouse would be present but don't expect there to be too many of them. Most of its economic activity other than trade with the saplings is fishing and maybe whaling(not sure whether whales similar to real life ones would be around the opening of a gulf like there).

Buildings would be in a mix of bricks and cement supplemented with sand and limestone, reinforced with metal. There will be campuses and libraries like in almost every city. There will be some pretty heavy coastal defense around the port since it's the opening of the gulf and thus an important choke point that works with the islands north of the peninsula.

Rep if I'm missing anything or you have any other opinion do tell.

1. NAAA, the side effects of it aren't taken into account in nearly as much depth as they should've been and it has too many issues for it to be implemented in its current state. Alot of the votes for it are made by nations that are affected the least and many of the ideas don't consider how the most affected nations would deal with it, it took me bringing up the specific issues that I found with it for them to be discussed at all which really should have been done regardless by many of the people voting yes and this kind of shows in the general response to those issues being, "well yeah but still" and "we already have that issue". There's also the lack of acknowledgement as to why nuefag made the map how it is in the first place, which was so that we could start writing lore with a location in mind without relying on future reps which this essentially brings us right back to, it also seems unlikely that we'll get an influx of dedicated writers considering we've already agreed to not going around other threads to get people to join. I don't really see how this is an improvement, it just seems like an equal proposal with just as many problems, nanora.
2. Nay, also isn't this the same as Abstain? I don't see why this is cannot abstain and the other isn't since one is of way more consequence nora.

Tourist bump just to ask that /tsunX/ doesn't lose the big mountain range it currently has because of that province vote you guys have going on. The lorepost calls us an Ice Kingdom but /tsunX/ is in the tropics so we need some kind of snow and ice.

>> No.34008551

I think the Nuefag map's goal, most of all, was to place the nations. So people could start doing, well, anything. I think you can write about unrepped nations under the province system, as long as you're not chaining them down in too constraining a joint lore. Taking the example of Matsurisu, I think when it does get placed, it's very likely it would end up somewhere next to Luna, as that's culturally a pretty logical place for it, but even if it's not a direct neighbour, you could feasibly have your history of warfare or diplomatic tension.

Since /tsunX/ has a rep, it won't be affected by the province vote. At least, it shouldn't be, and if it is, that should be corrected.

I feel like saying it's being implemented quickly is inaccurate to say the least, it's been up for discussion for more than two weeks based on the rentry, and it was already being discussed for some time before that was published.
As for the issues it solves, the province system was a direct result of the experience of adding /MANS/ and the ID3 nations to the map, which was all suboptimal to say the least. The province system would have made those processes a lot smoother. The current system is pretty good threads that are already on the map, but it causes issues if the nations are new generals.

The problem is that the major problems of the province system haven't had nearly as much discussion as they should have for it to actually make it to a vote, it feels more like they were acknowledged and then just hand waved more than waiting until these have been buffed out to put it up to a vote.

>> No.34011982

I don't think concerns were handwaved, they are analyzed in full at the end of the Province rentry. I think they're just considered to be acceptable compromises. Do you have any other specific worries if the proposal is voted in? Maybe they can be addressed somehow.

I can't really suggest a way to fix something I don't agree should be implemented in the first place since the immediate answer to how to fix it is not to use it at all. 1. No. I've had cold feet about this proposal for a while now, but I couldn't really articulate why until I saw lunaito's posts on the problems he had with it. He put it better than I ever could, but I think this is a step in the wrong direction and will make the world feel less alive overall. If we agree to be more willing to make room for new nations and put standards in place for how it should be done, then I don't think there's a need to nuke absentee threads from the map.
2. 4, same reasoning as last time. Niji seems compacted as-is and although /warkop/ says they're willing to give up territory, it seems simpler to me to just not give them that territory in the first place so they don't end up building immutable lore on it months from now and then find themselves in a difficult position later when the space is needed.

>If we agree to be more willing to make room for new nations
Do you know how this could be accomplished? I feel like the province system is the most workable way to do this. Having to come up with space whenever a new nation joins clearly causes problems, imo.

>> No.34018519

One thing the province proposal really drives home is giving the impression of a fresh slate in which there aren't any standing claims to the newly unoccupied land. One of the big problems with the previous round of adding nations to the map was that some posters felt that the old countries were getting unfairly shattered in the process. I think if we found a middle ground where people were more open to ceding territory to new nations without us having to completely remove the placement of old nations, then that would be the best way to go about it. To do so, we would probably need some regulations in place for how to handle things: can new nations be placed anywhere at their discretion or only with relevant neighbors, what percentage of an unrepped country can be given to new ones and how many nations can take land from a single country, should unrepped countries be allowed to be swapped around to accommodate new ones? Stuff like that. The old process of adding new nations could be made less painful if there were more formal rules in place for it, but I don't think provincing is the way to do it.

1. abstain

i personally still think that it is a better solution overall but i am also not willing to push a yes yet if some of the nations that are more strongly affected by this new system still feel at unease about it like lunaito. i know this could have been discussed long before but as has happened before, some people only truly feel the pinch once the time comes.

i personally would appeal to the nations that would be unaffected or barely affected by this to also change to abstain to at least give this one last week to be properly discussed and if it coems to nothing again then next week would be the deciding vote with no abstains.

This seems possible, but complicated, that's a lot of points to address, and I think more would come up as it was elaborated on, each with arbitrary variables. And then there's the question of whether formalizing the process further would make it smoother. The provinces have the pro of being straightforward to implement and understand (now that the map is done, at least), and of removing the messy "re-drawing borders" step of the process.
Perhaps some kind of hybrid system would be best?
Idea:
The Province system is adopted, but nations that are already on the map retain their territory with the best approximation allowed by the provinces. Larger nations are potentially reduced in size (as /hlgg/ was). And a bunch of measures regulating the distribution of provinces to new nations are implemented? Though this doesn't really address the other thing the Province system is doing, which is allow old nations to place themselves where they want on the map. Would this still be left as an option?

Also, not blaming you Lunaito, but this conversation really had to begin one hour before the end of the vote? Check the thread saturday morning or something onegai kek. Now the reps don't really have much time to reconsider their vote if they want to.

>so that we could start writing lore with a location in mind
While it is more or less true, I would say it was more useful back then due to all the zoning timeloops preventing us from starting to write. Nowadays, I would say it is more trouble than it's worth as we have existing lore to work upon.
Personally, my main issue (admittedly a personal one that probably doesn't have much impact on others) is that not all writers are necessarily satisfied with their current position, and the results are similarly unsatisfying:
>They go with their assigned location despite the dissatisfaction. I know some writers actually make good use of that (/rose/ being the most prominent example), but I don't think that should be a justification in favour of this system.
>The ask for a repositioning, which is basically the same for countries not on the map. Considering that the placement of ID3 and /mans/ is what sparked the discussion for the province system, it should be clear that this is far from being satisfying either.
>They change the details of the assigned location to suit their needs. While this satisfied the writers' need to make the countries the way they wish without causing issues that tend to arise in repositioning, it often has the unintended (?) side effect of having to justify changes in climates and biomes that will result in rather patchworked environment for the planet, and is something that bothers me (maybe more than it should, but well).
At least for me, the potential for resolving this issue alone is enough for me to support the proposal even if it's not perfect, or may not be much of an improvement for others.

Imo, that should be generally discouraged, but ultimately it would be another variable to consider when deciding the overall guidelines. Especially with reps wanting custom climates more and more, it's probably easier to move them than invent justifications for strange weather patterns.
>Perhaps some kind of hybrid system would be best?
Something like that might work, or maybe a system where a province or two are earmarked from every nation as available for future threads. So when someone new comes along, they know where they can grab their land from, but the old nations are still solidly present in the world.

If you were to look at the map post-provincing, there would be large swaths of unmapped space surrounding nations. This doesn't really fit the era we're in and the general lore we've set up for the globe, but it also explicitly shows a world with less going on. Especially if you are a nation with inactive neighbors, the difference between having nothing around you to work off of and having only a name is substantial. Even while not adding "dubious lore" to unrepped countries, knowing who your neighbors are can be a boon when worldbuilding your own nation, at least for me.

Hmm I really get what you mean, but then we have the issue of nations potentially wanting to have another location. And I also agree with /meat/bro about the climate patchwork not being great for the world's internal consistency. It feels like forcing new reps for old nations to accept a location and climate is incompatible with respecting their wishes. I'm not sure how exactly this could be fixed, those two elements seem to pull in opposite direction. Given the chaos that was present in this vote, I would like to propose two additional bills be added for next time.
1. There should be some discussion about formalizing the earlier proposal regarding how far in advance new issues need to be anchored to be voted on. This duration should include a formal discussion period of some minimal length where proponents and opponents of the proposal discuss its pros and cons. Too often these ideas get discussed far too late and this needs to be addressed.
2. Reps should be required to give at least one sentence of explanation for each issue they vote on to ensure that ballots are cast with informed decisions and not on a whim. Ballots that lack sufficient justification (no explanation given, "lol i just picked randomly", "i'll just vote for what those guys picked") would be discounted if the rep cannot supplant their vote with their own reasoning for picking an option. The barrier for what is considered acceptable justification would be fairly low, as this is meant to encourage reps to do their reps when voting rather than to throw out anyone's votes.

>> No.34025568

We'd just end up with a slightly more nuanced version of nuefags map, to that, there's a lot of vtubers that don't have a particularly well defined "theme" or one that could be well adapted to a climate and geography.
In any case, if the argument is that you want neighbours to write about, we have to keep in mind that loreless nations are already not really touched due to the potential of a newcomer coming in to see that their thread's lore is bound together by people that don't even use their thread, and the potential of "wasted lore" due to it being scrapped by a newcomer thread. If the idea is that we don't want an empty map, by all means it is already empty, most threads don't have lore, it is as if they are not there anyways, and lore remains so until someone from that thread comes to write about it.

>> No.34025637

>>34025019
Because we won't know what kind of environment, or even what kind of neighbour they would want until they come along? Even if the connection might seem obvious in hindsight, it's hard to predict if the new writer want their countries to have, for example,
>abnormally cold mountain
>alpine highland
>sunny Californian weather (then again, who can resist its allure?)
>warm summer and snowy winter
Ultimately, the issue comes from the fact that we can't predict what future writers might want for their countries, and I consider it against the spirit of collaborative projects to deny them their vision without a good reason, and "filling up the map" isn't a good one to me personally.

Well, the only solution that I can think of, and what has been using, is to just allow them to change their environment as they see fit. i don't mean to reopen old timeloops, but my opinion has been fairly consistent on this matter, and i feel it is worth mentioning. climate is fair, though there is a merit in making do with what you have but being able to decide who neighbors you is not a decision you are at liberty to make, with the only exceptions being special cases where people either wanted to have an island, and were granted that desire by the thread, or had multiple available options to choose from. in other words, it is a privilege to be granted, not a liberty to be infringed on. furthermore, that privilege is granted to the one who was there first. it is revoked every time a new thread is allowed to neighbor them, and since they are already established, it will force them to reestablish themselves in light of the new environment they are set in. as for dealing with climate, i really dislike the idea of changing the climate dramatically enough to cause changes elsewhere, but small changes, or self-correcting changes that could be caused by more region-locked magical effects, are interesting options. if the rest of the thread consent to other, more dramatic changes, then i would be ok with it, too, but that should be more of a last resort when possible. tell me if you have any concerns about my opinions and we'll see if we can't hammer out a compromise.

We have no need to expand. Just defend what we have.

I mean... Honestly if it was just my project. I would say whoever joins has to deal with the country, neighbours, and climates they were dealt. But this is a collaborative project, and anons joining the project have had a desire to adjust their position in some manner.
Though to be fair in all those instances it was not a matter of their neighbours, and more about their climates, so my mentioning the neighbour thing might be a moot point.
