I remember reading that they couldn't produce enough of him because the demands for his appearance in shows were overwhelming.
If not for the hijacker, the vtuber trend could probably happened much earlier in traditional tv channels

You know those tv shows where you dial the number to give money? That's how donos would work. Given said analogchuuba is doing a live broadcast.
also, archive would be serious business. Analogchuubas would sell their vods on casettes and cd. Exclusive episodes would not get archived.
If your analogchuuba had an unarchived talk show with your favorite musician you better get the vcr setup or else it'll be lost media

Knowing the stakes are higher the performers would definitely be more careful with the production. Can't risk even a single scuff to squeeze every last minute of airtime. This constraint is the ultimate gatekeep so only the serious of analogchuubas get to film another day

It would actually be interesting and reward fast thinkers with bit of creativity. Reminds me of how early shows with Julia Child were live broadcasted and when something was happening, she could quickly make a joke, play dumb or recover it.

So, I'm old enough to have experienced Max Headroom fever when he was everywhere. Much of the public believed it was done with computers as advertised, myself included, but if you thought about it the technology to pull off what vtubers do with an iphone today, well, in the 80s that would have required computers the size of a house. In reality Max was done using makeup and blue screen. The only CGI was the backgrounds and that might have been primitive video effects as well.
