if I'm being charitable I'd say people see hololive as the endgoal of streaming as an indie, but a lot of people aren't even that future-thinking. They just simply think the only way to be a vtuber is to try and do what hololive does. When that's simply not true. You can have all the lore you want or you can literally just treat it like you're an autist playing with paper dolls on your computer. Nobody's forcing you to play minecraft three times a week, or any games at all really. You don't need to do what everyone else does, just what you enjoy and hopefully what others enjoy too. I don't want to say "if you build it, they will come" because that implies success will naturally happen for anybody that puts in the grind, but it's really obvious when someone's just trying to play the system and do what they think they're supposed to do, compared to someone doing what they want to do, and I can only speak personally but I know which one of those I'd rather watch.
