According to the fantasy map, that color corresponds to at least 600 feet elevation, so that's an extremely steep canal, but not impossible. There are some canals with over 550 ft of elevation change, though they tended to be much longer. All the locks might be a bit expensive.

Alright. Did the Nijiborders, re-provinced the area that isn't owned by the retroreich. Does anything else look funky?

Please note that some of the borders in the far south of Niji may look a little bit off, but that's because the 3.0 map and 2.0 map have different polar distortion.

I am familiar with canal engineering, there is no such thing as a "downhill" or "uphill" canal, that would just be digging a ditch for water to flow down. A canal needs locks to prevent water flow and allow enough water to accumulate to get deep water the boats can navigate.

hmmm, I would look beyond Quetzalcoatl into the other dieties. He was one of the more important ones but Tlāloc, Huitzilopochtli (The main deity for the Mexica), and Tezcatlipoca.

The great temple was actually dedicated to Huitzilopochtli and Tlāloc; both having different types of sacrifics if I am not mistaken. I think it was Huitzilopochtli that most of the sacrifices were for while Tlāloc were different. I think child sacrifices for Tlāloc were common and I think even drowning??

Not much, like many languages I know, I can understand some of it when it comes to sources in said language (except Latin) but what I did was the old method of using Google translate and Spanish Wikipedia translation to find the sources.For my college friends, when doing a research paper, don't listen to your professors unless you are in an advanced class, but even then, Go to Wikipedia and find the sources they have. They are unbelievably useful most of the time.

You can definitely have rivers flowing into port cities on your coast, it's just unlikely that the river's source would be at the rrat mountains. Do you have lore that specifies the port's rivers flow from the rrat icecaps? The country's topology would have to be adjusted to do that, but it's probably doable, just a bit of work.
Basically, instead of having that ridge going through the center of the country, you'd want to have a valley there instead, with two ridges on the /uuu/ and hoshiyomia borders.
Looking at pic rel, the valley would be in the blue, and the more elevated parts are highlighted yellow. If you really want a river flowing from the /rrat/ mountains, that would make it possible.

If you look at a heightmap of China, the Yangtze river (roughly scribbled in red) does roughly stick to the lowlands. The reason for that is that as large river flows, they erode the terrain. On geological timescales, a large river flowing through highlands soon creates its own valley. In /who/'s case, having those valleys closer to the /rrat/ mountains would divert the water flowing from them into those lowlands, they wouldn't have a tendency to go on to flow through that strip of highlands.
But, I think you can definitely have rivers flowing down from those western highlands down to port cities, and then materials from the mountains can be moved to the coast through conventional means, water ways at times, carts at others, there isn't necessarily a need for a single continuous waterway to do that. I would say you're fine as is.

Wars are always something that must be approved by both parties regardless, and I reckon that most wars between nations would be between writers that actually really like each other and want to write a fun story.

That's just my take, I am sure someone else could make the case otherwise. We can just say collectively no to things.

UPDATE ON THE IMPERIAL NAVY:

The Navy is organized into two separate admiralties, with the Lord High Admiral mediating between the two. The Western Fleet's Admiralty is located in Suzuhara and the Eastern Fleet's in Kure. Both of the fleets have an intense rivalry between each other, with one admiral jokingly saying that the most dangerous enemy for both fleets was each other.

This started all the way back in the beginning first as a friendly competition for excellence between the two fleets but has escalated into a mutual hatred and contempt of each other. While the Lord High Admiral has stopped this from becoming actually detremental to the objectives of the nation, the reality is that it has caused both fleets to attempt to outdo the other regularly.

Out of the two, the Eastern Fleet is the most prestigious, conservative and traditional. This shows itself on the tactical level as there may be no better fleet in the world in terms of coordination and manoeuvring as the Eastern Fleet. Everything is so precise and orderly with how they fight that it's almost an artform. A deadly artform. Facing traditional naval powers like the Hoshiyomians has made them like this. While they may be near perfect at the tangile aspects of fleet combat; innovation, arrogance and unwillingness to be aggressive that could cause more problems as times goes along.

The Western Fleet, on the other hand, has experienced countless numbers of defeats and disasters in addition to great victories. In many ways, it has become the opposite of the Eastern Fleet for this reason, as it has always seen it's as the scrappy underdog. Even though it's been 50 years since the Fleet finally crushed its biggest enemy, the traditional spirit of innovation, and audaciousness has become a staple in the teaching in their naval academy. While the East will remain the better trained of the two for years to come, the West is catching up fast and with Suzuhara booming, it could very well within the next decade or two become the dominant of the two fleets, in size, innovation and training. They will never perfect the coordination of the East but the innovativeness in the end will likely triumph.

While the moonlight is setting on the East, it is rising in the West.

Would geography be a factor? East of /2434/ is an entire open ocean, the west is Niji-mediterranean
