I don't know how people are still surprised. The big corpos aren't interested in someone who like games or is a fan of the company. They want to hire an actor/actress to play their characters and won't creep on the existing members.
And with how fast a vtuber channel can grow by doing streams a couple hours a day(much less work than playing offstream and then having to edit videos and upload them), a lot of people are using it as a way to gain fame and popularity.
I still watch a few of the HoloJP and NijiJP, but I have mostly been watching indies and small corpos. They actually love what they do, and aren't discouraged by being 2views.

I don't think Reimu plays it much anymore either after the tournament months ago. She streamed it for the first time in 3 months 3 days ago.

The only thing NijiEN is a threat to is itself in the long run, unless they change things up.
The company is currently shotgunning out livers at a faster rate than they did with KR or ID, and while it could be a step up for most talents compared to where they came from it also results them not getting as much individual focus/care as they could be. It also doesn't help that while the company currently has 26 livers, not a lot of them are really filling in any niches compared to NijiJP. Elira is there as the RPG autist, Sonny is the wildcard and real Valve fan, Rosemi is a funny dork that loves Tekken and some retro games, Pomu is the MGS player, Reimu at least played the Silent Hill series, Mysta can dig out something interesting like his love of horror kusoges and Wii titles, and Selen loves playing games when she's not hooked on APEX/Overwatch.
A ton of livers just mostly play the same shit, and it's disappointing when Anykara should have a massive library of permissions. Even though they have a ton of talents streaming its like its mostly showing repeats of content.
