So, which vtuber was responsible for starting the Duolingo trend? It seems like Duolingo streams were not a thing until fairly recently, but one day someone decided to stream themselves learning on Duolingo, and suddenly it feels like a bunch of vtubers started noticing and realizing "Oh shit, this is good stream content" so everyone wants a piece of the action now.
It's actually pretty genius, easygoing compared to playing a game and educational, no limit to how many times they can do it, so they just get some learning done and watch the superchats flow in. But I want to know who started it. Who came up with this idea that somehow nobody else had thought of?

Vtubers have no input on what they’re going to stream you mong. Cover is managed by the most creatively bankrupt types on the planet so their genius attempt to broaden their audience is to have their models fuck around in Duolingo instead of doing something interesting lol

I'm pretty sure the first one to do a major Duolingo stream was Ame, then following that Uto did a lot of Duolingo streams and made it more popular.

>> No.3248217

They all play the same games at the same time usually because they just got permissions and it was the same in this case, they need permissions to stream apps too

Uto was the first I saw using that format as far as I know which makes it ironic since she gets all that crap of being a leech when they copied this idea from her.

Wasn't it Noel? And she did it because she had an interaction with Gura and wanted to understand her better afterwards? Or at least it was correlated, since she started streaming it not long after.

Naw, Hololive hopped on the trend relatively late. Before Noel, a bunch of smaller indies, Uto, Tomoshika from VOMS and a number of nijis such as Hoshikawa had already been doing Duolingo streams for a bit.

Yeah, I have to thank VTubers for introducing me to Duolingo. I genuinely had no idea there was a free website out there that let you practice a language like this until I saw them doing it. I know, it's not a perfect tool and you're not going to learn an entire language just from Duolingo, but it is useful for practicing vocabulary, which is sheer memorization through repetition. It's certainly better than the nothing at all I've been doing for a while.

Ame seems indeed to be the earliest one. Some nijis/indies did a few streams around Oct/Nov (Amamya, Ririsya and probably some others). Uto went very hard in Dec and popularized it. Chances are the Ame stream actually inspired her since she's a big Ame fag.

>> No.3288477

Has Ame ever even acknowledged Uto's existence at any point? You'd think she'd be itching to do a collab like all the other same-artist VTubers.

She was getting spammed by retards asking for a collab. What she did was honestly a godo thing (even if calling her cousin is kind of dumb) since the spam died down on both ends. EN management is also quite overprotective so that might've played into it as well.

I just looked this girl up and she has a running English translation for everything she says in the corner at all times. First off, how the heck does she do that? It even correctly translates words that don't exist, like Cradily. Second how come nobody else does that, you'd think the other people who want a bigger overseas audience would be all over something like this.

>> No.3297830

>>3288690
That's smart, you've got to treat these people with kid gloves because they morph into antis at the slightest offense and start shitting up your chat even harder. She didn't even say Uto's name because that would validate them.

>> No.3298810

>>3288783
I think she uses something like DeepL? But I have no clue to be honest, it seems like its something only a few bother with, namely chuubas interested in an overseas audience that don't know enough English, but just enough to post somewhere on Reddit to advertise.

It's probably one of the enterprise solutions like Microsoft Azure. It doesn't seem like text to speech is being used so you can't just use text translators like deepL without some level of speech to text. Obviously I'm not able to confirm what she's using because it is expensive as hell. And I have no knowledge of their accuracy
