That's more on the chuubas themselves to network rather than us. They need to stop raiding only within the circlejerk and instead branch out and start raiding different targets (Poya, Thinkerbell, Lumi, Takahata) basically anyone who isn't /here/ even smaller ones.

Obvious, but yes. People with a couple grand to spare can just hire one of the big boys and already start with a really good looking model (the bird girl?). They have a massive advantage straight away over the shitty vroids but whether they are successful or not is based on more than just the model.

Yes, I can't count the amount of shitty vroids i see that just put me off instantly. Picky and a few others prove if you actually aren't a lazy fuck you can make good/unique looking ones. Instead a bunch of people use the default model, stick horns on it and think they are done.

As a viewer I sometimes I feel bad for taking up the whole chat and basically directing the conversation, but if I sit back and try to leave room for others then the chat just dies and the streamer goes back to only reacting to the game.

There is a lot of debate on whether using overlays is needed or not, for example look at Little_S who just goes fullscreen game with chat on the side and it works perfectly for him. You should really think "do i actually need an overlay" before playing certain games and if not don't feel forced to actually have one.

In Terms of overlays, i think a lot of chuubas go for the tried and tested formula of game in top left, overlay border on the bottom and rightside (think hololive). I would say out of chuubas known;
>Josabelledemon, Maroony, Chiipaws, Poya, Dot_lvl, Shimada, Krimbo crew (very nice looking but it's still taking up too much space in comparison to josabelle, maroony etc)
These are probably examples of Non-intrusive overlays that don't take up too much space but also do the job decently well. In particular Dot_lvl is a great one to copy for retro games because he keeps wasted space to a minimum. Josabelle is also great as the game screen is still the major focus and the overlay goes well with her theme. Chiipaws if you look at her Atelier playthrough has a slightly different one that works well too and still keeps focus on the game itself.

Having chat on screen is actually good for YT VODs since people watching the VODs aren't going to know what the streamer is responding to so having a reference is really good. They also help if someone wants to go full screen.

The Krimbo Krew have really cool ones aesthetically, the chat might be a little too small and the sub box is a too huge with not enough game space but it still looks good

I watched Gyaru exactly once but their overlay is really good, emulating an old 16-bit computer monitor with zero unused space, maximizing game screen. Only issue I have with it is their chat box blends in with their horns a little bit

Tiger's overlay fits her theme really well aesthetically and is one of the few that do the objectively correct thing and put the chat on the bottom instead of the right side of the screen behind them.

Krimbo Krew are artists, of course they have good overlays, they're very visually pleasing but the real estate needs to be worked on.

Deer's sticks to a theme and does that theme well while managing to be clean with no unused space. Nothing is bigger or smaller than it needs to be. Its very ergonomic in design. The only thing I'd change is make the text box a different color so it doesn't blend with the horns. It also makes the text a bit hard to read.

The background suits Meat's aesthetic well with the whole cavewoman thing, maybe slightly too bright but i get the feeling it's just a temp thing.
With 4:3 games, the entire game can fit one side of the screen like shown on Nina or Dot_lvls stream so just do that and make the chat slightly smaller. That's the only real problem with it otherwise.

Put the text back on the right, make it a tiny bit bigger
On the bottom put a design or relevant information so its not just blank purple. "Recent Subscribers/Donators" "SM Links" "Game/Stream Info" Literally anything other than blank solid color.

Why the text should go on the right in this case is because if the text window is that small on the bottom then it completely defeats the purpose. You'll see one person's message for a couple seconds and thats it.

Playing 16:9 games like Doom etc, you could always go fullscreen like Little_S with a chat box on the screen if you wanted it.
For the Fire emblem and 4:3 games you could def go for chat on the right side with a unique chat box. I Really like Maroonys layouts for Retro games though hers are pretty indepth. For more basic ones, then something like Mocca or Dot_lvl are good.

For the 16:9 games, i know that's why some people have said they like overlays since the character model can block part of the game. i guess that really comes down to personal preference since by having an overlay you are making the game screen smaller by default, But you also aren't covering any of it up.
