When I make DnD maps I try to avoid making everything square. Especially when maps take place in natural formations. I also like curved walls in cathedrals though they're tricky to pull off with with diagonal halved walls. I keep walls at 90 degrees and 45 degrees. Drawing curves and other angles becomes a rule lawyer mess.

Background/outline:

>A small Mujigae garrison was escorting carts of valuables from a local mine to the cities
>It’s done after the onset of winter by the new manager for personal reasons
>Nightfall and heavy snow force the convoy to stay in a local village for shelter
>Village is somewhat fortified but deserted
>As night and snowstorm set in, the convoy is divided on staying vs leaving
>The convoy gets picked off one by one as paranoia becomes more and more apparent
Characters:
>Manager: Either a new manager for local company operation or someone desperately trying to get promoted into one. Wants extra valuables to be delivered for personal gain
>Captain: Commander of the small escort unit. Experienced in garrisoning in /vnug/ and is absolutely done with it. Wants to get back to the relative safety of cities even if it means braving the snowstorm at night
>Rest of the escort: Soldiers from the temperate north with little to no experience in how /vnug/ operates. Wants to get paid with the least effort/risk required
>Penelite songwright: A local roped into the convoy by the manager. Likely didn’t agree to be part of it but is very chill about it. Plays her instruments for the convoy and sometimes offers suggestions on what to do
>Palkyrie guerrilla: More like a force of nature than actual characters as seen by Mujigae eyes
Details yet to be decided:

If we are scaling it up to around 60m in length, it would definitely be a top predator of whatever biome it was in. Alright, so if you want small bouncy balls, the first thing that comes to mind are armadillos. Lose their shell, give them a nice long fur coat. Make them tree climbers, sap/fruit eaters. Rubber is created from sap-like secretions, whether it be tree sap or fermented petrol. So maybe you should look into how rubber is made first before coming up with an organic processs.

You also have to research what kind of rubber you want. There are different rubbers for different purposes. Some rubber's better at stretching. Some rubber is better at bouncing. And there's also some rubber that doesn't bounce well or stretch but absorbs impact. I think. Need to check on that last one.

Also you can have the creature have air-sacks that inflate its rubber-like hide if it wants to bounce. Hedgehog spines for example are filled with air. So when a hedgehog curls up the spines stick out. This is also how hedgehogs can float in water.

The main idea is that while there is still an Owl Republic (the Third Owl Republic, to be precise), it's a shadow of its former self. Although it claims the old borders it has (and then some!) on the actual map, it barely controls much of it. In addition, the government in the Capital is corrupt and divided amongst themselves. The Republic itself is much more decentralized compared to its predecessors, if only due to the lack of power the government actually has to exert influence upon its outer provinces. On the frontiers of what it actually controls, the army units stationed there are typically the de facto ruler of the area. Though they constantly do military campaigns to reclaim territory in the east, lots of them tend to have only some success at best due to falling discipline standards of the army, power struggles between the military and civilian administration, and the fact that the lands they claim to be Hooman are just not the same as they once were.
There's a lot more history and lore I'm building in my head right now, but that's the absolute basics. How's it sound?

so, i was thinking about chuubanite, and i figured that a lot of ideas i have heard relate to the idea of effecting some group from afar. this would be impossible naturally unless there was some form of delivery system, and one of the other problems i was having was thinking of how to communicate the concept of "other" in glyph form, but then i figured that all you would need is something to identify the exceptions, and the concept of negation.
how do you communicate the concept of negation? at first i figured it would be difficult since anything you could point to would not be what it isn't, but then i remembered that glyphs and activator substances can be made to interact each other and one another. the concept of a proposition or statement can be achieved when the glyph of a concept of something is attached to that something, essentially labeling it. a contradictory glyph "statement" with an embedded artificial glyph, if given enough data, and if supported by strong enough glyph statements to secure that it is completely contradictory save for the artificial glyph instead of artificially changing the meaning of the glyph by contradicting it, then the concept of negation can be given an artificial glyph, and from there, the concept of "not this" and thus "other". this will allow people to create a broader sort of targeting/excluding logic for some of their abilities.

Well, we can take this any direction we really want, but for that I would need a more specific biome.
For example, if we are talking desert, you can very well get true burrowing snakes, but also same problem as caves: how do you put enough nutrition in a desert for something to grow that big without removing the desert? Unless...dodogama in snake form. Chonky danger noodles just wanna eat rocks :3
And as for swamps, the problem I found was that burrowing isn't really all that viable for large creatures like that, even when I specifically put them in a biome with soft soil. So at most I could see them making small holes in the mud, again, ambush predators.
Speaking of, the lack of vision really tunnels them into that niche I feel. Unless you have some real fucking good echolocation, you usually won't actively chase prey, but rely on suprise attacks instead.
As for caves, could make a very, VERY specific biome for them, and make it very localized, like our very own Proteus anguinus, who lives in only a handful of caves in Slovenia and nowhere else in the world. Not every animal species has to thrive, after all.
Also, if you thought the first part was good, definitely check the rest, specially the ending. It was heart wrenching when I first read it.

Hmm, there's a strip of kinda desertic land near the South-West, maybe it can have a cousin there...
But here is the setup. The Underworld's underground near the mountain is absolutely chock-full of chuubanite, basically every other shard of quartz out there is saturated with it. All this chuubanite emits radiation, which leads to magicotrophic fungus, our world's analog to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radiotrophic_fungus.. Those fungus are fucking everywhere and form the bottom level of the biome's calorie pyramid.
Then, you have some kind of creature which feeds on those mushrooms. I'm not sure what these are exactly, might be multiple species, maybe fungivore salamanders, but I need more ideas there.
But anyway, the mushroom-feeders form the second layer of the pyramid. They inhabit those caves in the Underworld, caves which are, possibly, mostly the creation of Beeg Snek. I guess there would have been some kind of geological cave system to begin with, but over millions of years, now most of the caves are the creation of the snake.
Now, I think there would be some other predators in the ecosystem who feed on the fungivores, and then Beeg Snek is the apex predators who eats everyone else.
Next, there's the obvious issue of how can a creature burrow through rock. Both a creative mechanism and adjustments in the rock composition are needed. Maybe Beeg Snake, over eons of burrowing, has an impact similar to earthworms in mixing and loosening the soil, but down to a bigger depth? Making the depth of the bedrock floor much deeper? Maybe he has a hardened skull cap and just bashes the rock ahead of him to pieces, digging out tunnels? Maybe it secretes acid which easily melt the stone in front of him? Thematically, I like the head-bashing, but my autism really enjoys the soil loosening theory, I feel like that would happen...

Mori-type Chuubanite tends to glow when it's in high concentrations, which most chuubanite does. As for unique effects, it makes things colder, induces increased mineralization in living organisms, and makes certain crystalline minerals tougher and harder, like quartz, diamonds, goethite.
Definitely steal the magicotrophic fungi, now that I think about it, similar lifeforms would probably develop anywhere where underground chuubanite is found in large quantities.

Salamanders would be cute, but again, I feel like they would face the same problems as the Noodles. How about instead various species of tiny crustaceans? They mostly develop shells as is, so the calcification could be redirected from important tissues into that, and they aren't really aversed to living in cold conditions.

All in all, it really depends on how cold you want the underground to be. I assume you don't want to go below freezing temp. because that would, along with it being a cave biome, basically kill of any chance of anything bigger than bacteria developing there, maybe not even that. If we are instead talking about somewhere in the range of 1-5 celsius(caves are usually somewhere in the 10-20 range from my very brief search) we still have options, but are still very limited.

This is actually really interesting, since we are trying to establish an ecosystem where by all accounts there shouldn't be anything.

Also side note, I find it funny how our chuubanite effects are practically the opposite, since I plan to make /rrat/'s chuubanite produce heat(because Bae is objectively the hottest holo) and "soften" men by making them more friendly and unable to get angry or upset.

1) there is a reason places that use "practical currency typically replace it with more traditional currency. if it has value besides being a universally tradable item, then it prevents people from wanting to do business even if they otherwise would have. also, if it spoils, such as with nuts, eggs, and certain types of chuubanite, then it encourages people to think more in terms of the immidiate instead of being willing to make investments into the distant future. not the best idea for a single nation, but a terrible idea for a global currency. maybe if there was something you could cover it in to make it last longer (gold-pressed latinum comes to mind) that could mitigate the spoiling a bit, but the other problems would still apply.
