thoughts on what? bending needs a coherence, and if you've ever interacted with a periscope, you'd know that the distance between the place the image comes from (outside) vs where it is being projected (to your eyes) can change the image a fair bit. teleportation is both easy enough to make coherent (you'd need to specify a region regardless) and wouldn't change the image as the ship moves away from it. also, freezing light is as impossible physically as it is completely useless for the intended purpose.
>>31931626
this is definitely easier to implement, if not for the fact that you need to get the chuubanite to them. the delivery system is the main limiting factor for this, and it would be more like having the people effected perceive frameskips because they are lagging client-side. everything would lag, and only for them. not from all angles unless all angles are affected. it would be less of an initiation ability that way. is that what he wants?

>> No.31932500

>>31932124
i think the "charm" effect is not really what i had in mind

that said i also had not teleportation in might, i did not want to make this some grand OP ability but just to give an edge to odler ships to make them more on par with newer ships.

it can ruin shots of people not used to handling this, which since we are not at constant wars is most people and even then it is harder to lead your shot if you lose the feel for the thing you are aiming for. so even repeated it at someoen who knows what it is would be annoying

also people first have to truyl figure it out, even seeing it 3-4 times does nto mean that you udnerstand what is happening, people might "THINK" that the ship is teleporting even if it is not

>> No.31933035

>>31932500
ya, as me and the other guy said, no matter how you do it, this wouldn't add any real advantage besides the surprise that came from the first use of it. ships are slow and move predictably, an after image isn't going to change anything, especially if the illusory image doesn't look like it should be stationary, revealing the illusion. if they know something is off, they could probably just pay attention to the waves, anyways, and i am pretty sure it wouldn't be too hard to figure out by the first or second time seeing it. the teleportation of light isn't as difficult or overpowered as teleporting a whole ship, so most people would assume it was a trick of the mind, which is what it is, before actual teleportation came across their mind.

correction, they are slower, and more predictable than land mobility relatively speaking. obviously, you can mitigate it, and good ships move faster than people on land, but on the same playing field, against a similar type of enemy, ships are less maneuverable and are restrained somewhat by the waves they sail on.

Wondering what might be a good way of coming up with an in-lore name for the nation that comprises /lig/.

>> No.31934424

>>31933242
no, i'm saying that would be impractical. it would be easier to do it from a technical perspective, like setting up a cardboard cutout of someone is easier than getting them to be there instead, but nobody is going to fall for it from a practical perspective. they know how people should move if they actually were there, likewise, ships that are completely stationary on moving water after they were moving at a certain speed that came to a full deceleration without setting down their sails just seems so uncanny to anyone viewing it, just like seeing a player's sprite suddenly stop in it's tracks when they were walking somewhere. on the sea, their sails tell you how they should be moving.
>>31933529
i don't think it will ever be overpowered, i am trying to think of a way where it won't be uselessly underpowered. there will always be things to add to the illusion to make it more convincing, but that will get exponentially more technical and difficult to implement. teleportation of light still seems like the easiest way to make the effect work at all from a technical perspective, but idk how to make it more powerful so it would actually give your ships an advantage. maybe consider making it a delayed image that is still in motion, and have it's effect be determined by both distance and time, so the further away it is, the faster it spends energy, but the duration could last for as long as there is fuel, instead of having that frame-skip effect happen on it's own.

well i cannot speak with how other came up with theirs but the Retro Reich is called as such because it is a Reich (a realm ruled by one entitiy, in this case it is setup to be queen onolumi) focused on retro stuff, therefore Retro Reich, simple easy and gets the point across well and people know who is talked about

but there are many ways, you could come up with something that can be shortened to the acronym of LIG for example like League (of) Independent Geniocracies

with Geniocracybeign a stateform that favours rule by creativity, innovation, intelligence and wisdom

Don't take this as anything more than a concept. The rest can be free if anons think it is too much land and want free land for nations like pagi and moona if they get a rep. If the concept is agreed on, I will make an actual proposal with this. Another option is the one others are suggesting, keeping it all in Petra which I really don't care about as I am not a tribalist over holo v niji shit. Like saw DSW (If they had a thread) wanted part of old bakatare, i see no reason why not
I also really hate the terms "Holocontinent" and Nijicontinent period. We don't call East Asia Chinaland?

But I do agree with you that the continents don't have to be called Holo or Niji or indie or whatever. It's just that because of how we zoned it, it becomes convenient to call a landmass Holo or Niji or fetish because that's where the related nations are located. Which is why the continent naming goal is still up there.

I am fine with something like this. Maybe give all of petraor leave part of it open for future nijithreads; but also keeping part of it in bakatare. I am sure the Japanese would counter with their coprosperity sphere. I said china best that is what nijimales and 2434 are effectively in universe. But still, I am rather adament on getting continents named for this purpose and having them demarcated so we can avoid the tribalism with this.
Neutral-niji wont be called what Meat, the nijis or the Holo settlers call it. Something else entirely IMO.

My idea was that perhaps the island was inhabited and deserted multiple times in its history, with each subsequent civilization building at top the ruins of the previous ones. The deeper you dig the older and more bizarre ruins you find. Also, now retroreich and the Serene Republic would be the current "civilization" on the island, meaning that in the Era After universe or some other future timeline, our ruins could be discovered by some future archaeologists

You know, I dont think teleportation of the photons should be the answer, I think moving or bending them works way better. Besides, photons move so fast there is no reason to use teleportation instead of just conventionally moving them there.

>>31931204
Freezing photons is a bit of a no, you could slow them down considerably though.
>>31931546
this could work

but if you want the photons trick, here is how I'd do it from the physics perspective, step by step
I do not know if this all would be possible in the magic system, or what would be needed for it to work.

>1.
The glyphs are activated, and the glyphs create a "bubble" around the ship. Part of the photons that hit the bubble get slowed down by a lot, but not entirely stopped. The photons are trapped in the bubble and move with it, and the bubble moves with the ship
>an outsider will see the ship become less saturated, and perhaps a bit transparent. (as in, seeing the scenery behind the ship, not seeing inside the ship) Probably not noticeable unless you know what you are looking for.
>those aboard the ship will see the rest of the universe behave the same way, become less saturated and so on.
>2.
After enough photons have been collected, a second set of glyphs is activated, this untethers the previous bubble from the ship and creates a new one. This new bubble is completely reflective on the inside, meaning that the photons sent off by the ship bounce inside of the bubble. On the outside the bubble is either reflective or transparent or it bends light in a way that it allows the photons coming from behind the ship to travel through and around the bubble.
The first bubble starts to decay, releasing its photons.
>an outsider will see the ship slow down, and perhaps stop. They are now only seeing the first bubble and the photons that were trapped in it being released. As time passes, the visage of the ship becomes less and less saturated and more and more transparent.
>what an outsider is seeing is a replay of of what the ship did during the "charging" period (step 1), but with the movement of the bubble.
You probably could have the bubble move on its own a bit, perhaps in a different direction than the ship was, so the mechanic could be a bit more powerful.
>those aboard the ship will see the world as if they were inside a box made of mirrors. Its completely dark unless the ship has lights.
>3.
The new bubble is destroyed, revealing the ship again.
>an outsider will see the ship appear again in a new location where it was not previously. The visage of the ship may or may not still be around.

I say no to teleportation.

Also, I miss cunt.

Great work! I love how you have used the specbio in your tactics. I hope your rep comes back soon so he can also weigh in because I honestly cannot say how his army fights to know if they had direct control, nominal control (like how /haha/ claims all of /rose/ because they don't know /rose/ exists), or how much they attempted. All the weapons, martial arts and tactics seem perfect for your uses. Considering I myself made a military reforms doc that kind of did something similar https://rentry.org/k4ey9

Sure thing. Thanks for involving me, hope its not an issue with the others.
I do agree with you on that "holocontinent" and "nijicontinent" are pretty terrible names, and we should get the proper names for them soon.
>>31942031
Looks pretty fine for Anya-Petra, if both agree. While the anon saying that that is a bit far for anya-petra is right, its ultimately up to them. Its not *that* far, its not unworkable.
Although, if that is seen as an issue, then the two continents gimmick can go, assuming anya-petra are fine with it.

>>31948594
I am personally a fan of this one, it looks great, more natural somehow.

Ideally, if warkop is fine, we could have some of the land freed for future threads.
In general, I think the reps should most of all discuss this between themselves, if they are able to, like /wah/ and /mans/ did.

I think retrobro had some strong opinions about the name of his continent? We should hear him.

/mhm/'s thoughts on Warkop transfer.

1. I love the idea of Warkop owning land in former Bakatare as it fits well with the local history and gives us potential story ideas moving forward. This is my favorite part of this as it
a. It reminds me of the fall of Western Rome because the barbarians (us) conquered these lands and settled them, mixing with the locals to make our current peoples. Think of Romance languages.
b. The pure story telling and lore outcomes of this are absolutely brilliant. As PPanon pointed out, it can explain differences between ehe and koboniggers. Adds more tension to this area that I think needs it (Watamelons are nice but we need to have some petty feuds and shit)
C. I am well aquainted with Warkop as a thread and can contribute to their local lore for Kaela, Zeta and Kobo.
2. It would put all ID writers in a similar area, including V7bro, Warsuner, the Risuners, and Mepper. That is a net positive as has been shown by Nijireps and the kino they make together. Warkop lore inspired me because it made so much sense of that thread and excites me to have them as a possible neighbor.
3. If Moona, Iofi and Ollie's threads got reps, we could easily put them in old Anya territory and the rest of Bakatare; making the region complete. I love this concept on so many levels because of that.

I was told yesterday that being within a region didn't make my opinion more valuable to this thread, is that really the case here?

Also, since Alice and Emma said their nation is Tsukinode and removed Anykara (which is a bastardization of Ichikara and Anycolor), I think we might want to switch to Tsukiluna or Tsukiguya. I do think Siropa actually works as its own continent. I still want the "neutral" threads to have a bit of their own identity and not be labeled under a name that does not fit them. So, either remove niji reference from the name of the entire continent, or let us have Siropa and Karaguya.
I will not be adamant on this. If the rest of the thread agrees to an option i wont liek the best, I wont start timeloops over the naming of the continents, this is just a preference I have. the names themselves arent bad, i quite like how they sound

Another small nitpick, the Infinity Island is probably better thought of as a continent on its own.

Thank you! It wouldn’t be possible without all of you who gave me enough ideas for me to work upon! I was unsure about Palkyries being smol people would work, but I think it worked out better than I expected after seeing how others tackle the issue in other fantasy settings! It probably also helps that the smol physique ends up justifying Palkyries preferring ambushes and other similar guerilla warfare approaches, since I feel it’s easier for me to visualise smaller fights instead of armies fighting each other
I was worried that what I wrote might end up being too stylized, since it’s probably somewhere between monhun and RWBY on the anime fight scale, but I’m happy that receptions have been positive so far! I doubt many of that would translate well into more “formal” battles so I probably have to do more reps between streams. I want to thank you for suggesting ga-pa for me to read! It’s interesting to read about it even if it might not end up working for Palkyries
I tried contacting our rep in our thread but I didn’t get an answer from them, so I’m kinda making things up based on Joseon of the time as I go. I do hope they’ll show up again soon since I have to double-check some of the Mujigae stuff I wrote. I like to think it’s at least flexible enough that at worst I would just have to replace Mujigae with a pro-Mujigae local ruler

>photons move so fast there is no reason to use teleportation
that's not the reason to use teleportation. light travels in all directions, you would have to bend it in a contrived manner to get it to not change it's shape if it were just bending that did it. quantum teleportation is easy. it's not overpowered, i keep saying it's just light that would be transported.
>you could slow them down considerably though.
no you can't, and even if you could, it would still be too fast or too changed by the doppler effect to make an illusion. the only difference between freezing it would be that the light would be shifted by the doppler effect instead of resulting in nothingness because freezing light doesn't create an after-image.
>The glyphs are activated, and the glyphs create a "bubble" around the ship
they wouldn't create a physical bubble, only a conceptual bubble. you need a physical medium to catch the light, or else some kind of chuubanite smoke or what not to allow the bubble to actually have an influence on how things work. your counter-suggestion is so much more convoluted and technical than it needs to be, to the point that it verges on the edge of my suspension of disbelief. what is the problem with using quantum tunneling to transport light in exactly the correct spot to exactly the correct location using glyphs to define how it does that? we know both light and magic quanta follow those rules, and we can create a selection process that allows it to work the way we want it to. i can't see how your solution would work, nor why mine would be bad. please help me understand.

This might sound like a random question, but do you know what would happen if someone wearing metal armor in a cold place got splashed with a bucketful of water? I know armor is pretty good against cold weather as long as it’s padded beneath the armor, but I can’t find information on what happens if the wearer gets wet while in it. I assume being drenched will make them lose heat much faster, but I don’t know if armor is waterproof enough to make the ice bucket attack impractical. Maybe things also differ if the liquid isn’t water? Like if it’s salt water, oil, or even liquor that’s less likely to freeze in cold weather?

I think that an option 3 should be there where /warkop/ is relocated to the Petra part of Anya-Petra instead.
The Holo-Niji or any strictly themed continent idea should probably be discarded but with the two options how Warkop ended up with land in a neighborhood that's mostly dominated by Holo-worshipping nations needs to be considered when you write its lore. But of course the ancient history of how the area was settled after the /vt/-/jp split is unclear and there is a decent amount of wiggle room. Having /warkop/ relocated to Southern part of currently Anya-Petra dosen't need any sort of border change and might present less headache for everyone. All the thread's history can rely on soft explanation rather than having its borders shift.

>>31955065
The main idea for this would be to make the target feel cold? Pure water wouldn't work very well, humans have no trouble warming up a layer of water pressed between their body and some garments, and eventually evaporating it, through physical activity. I think you'd want some kind of oil for sure, this way it doesn't evaporate. Some kind of oil with a high thermal conductivity, and a low surface tension, this way it spreads through the fabric easily and impregnates it fully. Basically you want the liquid to fill all the air bubbles that clothing creates, because this is where the thermal insulation comes from. Once the oil fills out all those gaps, the skin and the metal will basically be connected by a thermally conductive layer that should draw heat away from the body very fast, because metal has a lot of heat transfer with air.
If it's cold enough, that could be pretty problematic for soldiers, if it's below -5 or -10 deg. C.
I can't think of a material that has those properties IRL, but I don't think it's implausible. it could be an oil extracted from a local plant, or from the liver of some native monster you have, or anything else you want.

>I do not think you understand how either quantum tunneling or quantum teleportation work
i didn't assume i did, but i figured that similar processes could stand in for each other. having the concept of something attached to a separate location to cause the magic quanta to act in place of the light would allow it to act as though the light itself were there, so making it look like it was the proper location would be easy enough as long as you had a medium and am similar process. it could tell the light exactly where it would need to be to be correct, whereas the bubble idea i really don't think would work in the way he describes for a number of reasons. in general, i really can't see how the mirage idea would work anyway but worse than the teleportation idea. it's not about my knowledge about quantum tunneling specifically, but more as a result of epistemological rationalization, that if one thing works so too should another if they follow the same set of physical laws.

With pataphysics the idea that chuubanite is 'using magic as a shortcut for science' sounds bizarre and novel
Usually in fiction magic bends the rules of nature or breaks it
But here magic is a catalyst.
You want to break fly for instance
Regular magic just say go for it and breaks the law of physics
Chuubanite magic take existing laws and amplify it. Like using coulomb's law to make you fly using electrostatic repulsion
It doesnt hate nature and science, it just said 'what if we go all out'

Part of the problem here is not the concept, but how it ties into overall things. For example, LazuLight will all be Germanic. Nenemen is a mix of Germanic with Ike and Luca, but also Japansese for most. Ethyria is Slavic sans Reimu. Rosebuds (not the Rosebutas) are Francophones. Do you see what i mean? Unless you want a conlang that make sense of someone with a Swedish firstname and a mongolian surname, I would advise against it.

Shields are often used alongside swords or short polearms like axes that are more controllable with one hand. If you use a shield in conjunction with a long polearm you are only limiting what you can do with it.

Thank you! I think the /meat/ connection ends up being quiet interesting for the dynamics between the people and countries (even though we haven’t actually interacted with /meat/ yet) so I try to put it in wherever it makes sense
I see my stealth shilling plan is going well As for the term widowmaker, it originally stemmed from the particular location Liora told us to hit, but it happens to also be a term in forestry that fits how Palkyrie ambushers attack so that’s a happy coincidence
For the ice bucket attack, the intention’s to drench the insulating clothes between the body and armor (which seems to mostly be a mix of cotton, paper, and leather for Korean armor during that period) so that the victim will get their heat drained quickly. I got that idea from reading about the risks of polar exploration where they talked about how deadly it can be if you get caught with wet clothes without shelter. Granted, /vnug/’s nowhere near as cold as Antartica, but I think it should still work during /vnug/’s winters. If nothing else, causing discomfort and maybe numbing people’s limbs will be good enough!
Water was the easiest choice, but since this kind of attack is most effective at freezing temperature, something that’s harder to freeze like salt water and oil also comes to mind. Liquor also fits the bill and also has the advantage of being flammable (especially when soaked in cotton or paper), but that might be too low even for Palkyries. It might an effective threat tho
I can always make up material that fits the bill if needed, but I want to see if it can work without that first

Bardiche’s fairly short as far as pole-arm’s concerned, so maybe it’ll work? /vnug/ does have sidearms like swords as well. For Palkyries in particular, I’m thinking that soldiers and fighters are trained to use their tail as off-hand when handling long pole-arms like swordstaff
Maybe another reason for the more flourished fighting style is to accommodate the tail’s position? Granted it won’t work in formation fighting, which is something I’m still trying to figure out

As the video said, polearms other than those shaped like spears are quite heavy, and you would have very limited range of movement when using a larger shield, so you can only perform limited cuts and only thrust with your weapon. Bardiche isn't very optimised for stabbing so I think it's use with a shield would be very situational, rather as a go-to thing. It might change things if Palkaries have a lot more strength than a normal human adult but polearms still have a decent amount of flex in them. A Bardiche's weight would help with it so the end result might not matter that much in the end. So rather than using it in conjunction, have it so the shields are brought as they need to face mounted archers, since archery is pretty important in Korean martial arts iirc.
Perhaps. SchoalrGladiatoria is a great channel because he cites sources pretty regularly and has a lot of experience practicing HEMA. Though you might want to look more at other cultures instead of only relying on a European perspective.

So long as Miss Alice agrees, I have no issues with this. I like when things are added in layers and while I would have likely said no to you like /vsj/ in the past, I think it wouldn't hurt for us to have an ally in the war and furthermore it works out fine since we have to work with /aeg/rep too. Also please note that /vrt/ has pretty friendly relations with /who/. Aside from that the nation still needs to reflect the thread in terms of its behavior. Over the course of you making sense of your nation's Modus Operandi you might want to turn the aggressiveness down a couple of notches. How your thread treats things happening outside would definitely change your nation's behavior in the universe. Don't visit it very often but what's the Suzy thread's opinion on outsiders anyways?

So to just make sure that I'm getting the idea clear here: /who/, hoshiyomi and towa are planning to form an anti-horny alliance and crusade as that is part of their religious doctrine (and their oshi's wishes in the case of towa and hoshiyomi). However towa has a thriving underground horny sector (perhaps VSPO lewds were the initial spark for this?) and hoshiyomis pursued have joined this underground movement due to the persecution , again this is just me trying to get a handle on this and not setting it in stone, that's strictly up to all the participating reps if they choose to continue with this

>>31961394
Bardiche’s indeed used mostly for slashing since it’s pretty similar to its axe ancestors. That said, I don’t think the weight of the pole-arm itself would be a problem, since Palkyrie tail can work as an off-hand (assuming it isn’t seen as being too OP), meaning that they can both hold the pole-arm with two “hands” while still dedicating one hand to the shield. Shield’s size restricting movement is a good point though! Maybe that’s another reason they adapted heater shield after having to fight actual armies?
I still think it’s reasonable when considering Palkyries will likely angle their shield upward and slightly to the side as pretty much everything they fight will tower over them, which should allow for decent angles when it comes to cutting. I agree it’s likely situational, but probably more in terms of expected opponents - shields probably won’t be too effective against monsters due to their raw strength making blocking or parrying impractical, while they’re more useful when fighting humans in terms of blocking arrows and parrying melee attacks

If you don't feel like you can, you don't have too. I really don't have much truly mapped out myself. I have the principle and concept of this timeline in my head but getting it written down is a whole different matter. Some people are better at doing this, like PPanon. But I am too prone to thinking rather than doing, so there really isn't much I can tell you if you already know what the basics are. I also think the idea of the Sun (me), and the Moon (Alice) fighting with the stars (you) and the Aether (/aeg/rep) is rather poetic and beautiful in a way. Ah, that's just me thinking abstractly. >Maybe that’s another reason they adapted heater shield after having to fight actual armies?
That's a good reason, as organized armies would likely have more missile troops so they need to bring a shield in order to advance through the field. Though the Palkayreis might also prefer partisan-like warfare to pitched battles.
But also note that due to how limbs are arranged even if Palkaryies have essentially a third arm, limited changing of handedness would also limit the stuff you can do with a polearm.

True! Palkyries very much prefer something more similar to guerrilla warfare than “proper battle”, which they might very well suck at due to their physiology and lack of military tradition. About the tail use, truth be told I haven’t found much information on how nimble it should be or how fantasy beings use them in martial arts. I tried to simulate it myself but it didn’t work out well either, so I guess it’s something that’s hard to imagine unless you have an actual tail

Nice lore!!! The political organization is really the SPQR's wet dream!!!!
Regarding the military, I'm not at home so I can give much feedback right now!!!
Now, for the economy!!! Much of what you said is really accurate but in a decentralized republic, I think that the government would place a special emphasis into local artisanship for trade!!! Unless you're going for a conservative society, in ancient Rome, family tradition was specifically guarded to avoid foreign "corruption"; from a cathartic "more-than-life" experience that could only be achieved in battle. Such belief cultivated into a faith of the "holiness" of the Rome, of which the world would never end as long as Rome was still standing.
From what I'm seeing, given the bureaucracy and corruption of the government, I doubt that the crop yield would be very stable over the years, due to the Republic's unwillingness to modernize.
I'll get home in a few hours and then I can give you a more thorough feedback if you want!!!!

You're welcomed. Unironically, maybe you can try to make some props with cardboard boxes and pick up a broom in order to get a feel on how they would use their weapons. I've tried to swing a broom with a backward grip and using it to slash in conjunction with a shield should be doable. Also a prompt of sorts for you, maybe try to think of how Palkyries with different fighting styles modify their weapons? Monster hunters have a heavier blade head with metal reinforcements on the shaft or something.

I think the issue’s that none of them know how to use tools yet so it’s difficult to see how they can handle two-handed tools with their tail. Prop tails similarly can’t move so I had troubles mimicking possible movements (me not knowing any martial arts didn’t help either)
From what I can imagine, I think Palkyries should be able to do straight chopping and side sweep motions fine, with the biggest drawback of tail vs hand being that the tail comes out from behind, so switching the hold from one side to the other requires letting loose of the tail and turning it to the other side. Maybe that’s another reason for Palkyries’ more flourished moves? Since they can’t reposition as quickly, they instead opt for making use of the momentum to basically swirl around to reorient themselves faster
Thanks for the prompt! I’ll think more about it once I’m available!

>slowing light
You can, and they do stay coherent while doing so. Thats what happens inside glass, or inside the earth's atmosphere, for example.
The photons themselves do not lose velocity, but the lightbeam itself moves slower. Its a big simplification but it does work in principle.
The doppler effect I think should only apply inside the medium of the bubble, once the light passes to the other side of it, the photons experience the reverse of the initial shift and should return to "normal".

>bubble
which is why i specifically initially wrote the word bubble in quotation marks. The idea was some sort of a chuubanite mist or a sheet or something.

You still need some form of a bubble for the teleporting light idea, since there needs to be a layer of something with which the light can interact with which then teleports it to he set location. You really shouldnt just teleport all photonsin the ship to a new location, that would fuck a lot of things up.

Besides, the teleportation itself has to be figured out. I dont think just makign stuff appear in a new location is supported under the system, and the other option would be bending space which itself is a pretty problematic idea. I dont think quantum tunnelin gcould be used as an explanation for distances larger than an atom.

>>31957892
The idea was the bubble would be *something*, i just did not know what exactly. I thought it obvious.

but yeah, I am a bit dumb at times, please forgive. Refraction/mirage or even the lens idea would be the best ones.

That, or the hallucination idea.

Also will be good later on for phase revolution.

Now, past wars with who and hoshiyomi. I am fine with this if both of them are. I am like the deadbeats in that i like this kind of cooperation just as much as the friendship. Its fun so it follows my rules!! Doesnt matter if i lose or win or draw in that war. Would talk to suirep and did want to with v7 but they went off into the pit so good luck to them. I can wait

Slowing light is just called refraction.
How about this idea for retro chuubanite, the chuubanite does not create a mirage of the ship on its own
The ship mirage function is a mechanism from the application of chuubanite.
Here is how it works, /vrt/ ships are fitted with layers of retro chuubanite alloy. The ship double/lag you are seeing is that silhouette of chuubanite refracting light to create a mirage.
So the mirage application is not chuubanite on its own. But a combination of chuubanite and engineering!

But I feel that something is missing
Let's return to the origin point
The concept of 'retro'
/vrt/ chuubanite has to deal with something within the past. And said something must contain 'value'
In this context, a mirage has both inputs
The past = its previous location
Value = light/mirage
But retro is also about 'sentimentality'. About how a person values something old.
So here's my idea.
/vrt/ chuubanite has some form of cognitive dissonance.
While the ships can project a mirage in the exact location it was in the past, the mirage is not a normal one.
The dazzle and patterns of the photons are unnatural. With it, it emits an anomalous cognitive effect.
Like an octopus hypnotizing its prey or a peacock using its feathers to entrance a peahen.
This cognitive effect is the vector for the concept of 'nostalgia/feelings for the past'
And this could be used offensively.
Like a siren's call, driving those that sees the mirage into rage.
For them that nostalgia is not romanticism. It's frustration.

You don't need to know how to solve Schrodinger's equation to understand that observation affects the result in quantic measurements. no. no unexplainable incoherent magical effects. as much as others claim otherwise, our system is not handwavy or nebulous, and i'd like to keep it that way. you guys don't seem to understand, you need to communicate it to the magic system for it to have an effect, and it needs to communicate it's effect into a physical effect. the only way to interact at all between the physical and the conceptual is through chuubanite. i will not allow completely non-local, inexplainable phenomenon to be handwaved into the system like this, otherwise it completely defeats the point of having it partially be a hard science fiction system. then it would be reduced to a soft non-scifi fantasy setting where everything works off of the power of bullshit and poor worldbuilding. you can find a thematic connection between retro chuubanite and time travel, that doesn't mean you can pull time out of a hat without needing to define what such an interaction even means, let alone explain how it would work from a physical perspective.

the ship moves away from the area that it's light is reflecting from, the reference point is shifting, and you need to reflect the accurate image in all directions simultaneously. doing this with mere bending light seems impossible to me, but if it were possible, show me a real life equivalent of it. the only thing i can think of that is even related is quantum invisibility, but that is nowhere near as impossibly complex as what you would have to be able to do for this to work.

If someone can't explain something in relation to physical laws then usually that's an indication that said person didn't understand or consider those laws and needs to contemplate their concept more. At the same time, explaining complex ideas simply isn't a concrete indication that those ideas are simple or wrong, just that the one explaining them doesn't have the verbal lexicon to explain it.

How does this pertain to explain in laymans terms. You can know the slang of the ship, just tell the person you are explaining what it means. This isnt that complicated. Also, one of the purposes of explaining in laymens terms is to allow the person to dive deep if they choose. I can explain things like measuring depth by sounding, how to use a sextant, and what the terms starboard and port mean easily but I dont need to tell someone “Well, you have the sails at a this precise angle during the specific weather event” to get the gist of sailing across.

>bend light to represent a misleading representation while maintaining the coherency of the image.
mirages are incredibly simplistic natural phenomena, and don't let you see something from all angles as if it were somewhere else. you guys aren't understanding my concerns. i am saying a mirage will not make something that is actually at x appear at y from every perspective in every direction at the same time and to the same extent. bend all light going off the ship from all directions, shift it to a new location, and then precisely aim it in the right directions, including in the direction towards the ship, where it has to bend around the ship and still reach the other side without being obstructed, btw, it will be bent back, forth, and then back again that way, first from going away from the boat, then towards and past the boat, then back towards where it came from in the same direction, and then it would carefully dodge the ship to get to the other side. this is all done by a simple mirage? how?) you are not just bending light, you are implying the finest, most precise application of light bending without being able to explain how precisely you are able to achieve it. chuubanite has limits in that it can't use a non-sequitor method to achieve a goal. it has to be done in a way that is actually physically possible.
>both the mirage and the cognitive effect
and again, you need physical connection to their brains to be able to affect their cognition. chuubanite cannot emit a ray of nonsense physics were everything within an arbitrary measurement of an arbitrary condition has a truly arbitrary effect as long as it is vaguely thematic, whether or not chuubanite exists within a five-mile radius of the ends of the region it effects. there is a mechanism that chuubanite operates off of, and a method to communicate precisely what you want it to do, and you are completely disregarding it by allowing this specific interaction to work without properly defining how. that is what i am concerned about.

While many of us are identifiable, Panon sticks out the most by constantly interacting with others and influencing what they do or don’t do. The man also seems to never rest, I hardly see hours when he is not around. It’s not hard to see why someone would be off put by this, especially considering the frequent remarks about his attractiveness and the jokes about a “harem”. It’s a very high level of ego overall. I truly just do my best to tune it all out, which is partially why I don’t talk to other Nijis as much, but I understand not wanting to interact at all. And I was by no means trying to make a jab at you for your activity, if anything it was meant to be a compliment as I’m incapable of doing such a thing myself. If it was a problem for me that I thought stemmed from you, I absolutely would have communicated with you about it. I think of you like a good friend.

>>31972775
i had planned to have it "built" into the ship anyway so this is pretty much in line what i had in mind anyway.
i am however a bit lost at where exactly the talk about this ability is right now

>>31949580
the issue i see with your multiple civilizations stacked approach is that the world is not eons old, to have a society form and crumble it takes some time and with roughly 1200 years i don't see this happenign with several ones one after the other.

There is a lot of irony hearing the come from you, a man who is constantly ERPing with OGsuner who talks about how much he wants to fuck you and vise versa; and a man who has bragged about fucking housewives, and how sexy his voice is. That this man, is criticize panon on the same shit he does and has done before he came. And that you admit you do not interact with Nijis because of all of this makes you look more like a bitter asshole than the supposed shy guy you claim to be. I had a lost of a lot of respect for you knowing that you are such a hypocrite and petty bitter ass that you feel this way about someone who always has something nice to say about you, who says he respects you a lot, and has always tried to he understanding of you. Yet you couldnt extend that respect back to him. I am not even a huge fan of panon, he is an ass sometimes but i respect him for being open about his faults and wanting to improve? When do you do this? Anytime Ogsuner is here or now Kindred, you turn into a horndog.

I apologize if I seem rude, but I did just admit that I am aware it is hypocritical of me and I’m actively taking steps to better myself. While I understand your thoughts and respect if you have a worse opinion of me now, it would be nice if you attempted to perhaps understand more about the overall situation rather than make hasty generalizations. Again, I apologize. Despite all of my faults, all I really want to do is be everyone’s friend and write some decent worldbuilding.
>>31975748
I understand that. Truth be told though, it was more a factor of me not paying attention and not realizing the consequences of me not being forward enough during those early stages of development. I had unintentionally locked myself out, it has been a difficult time trying to work with myself but I promise I will do better.

I didn't think you were refering to yourself, your actions but rather perception this whole time. I don't know why that gave anyone the thought otherwise since I know what I do and what I don't do. You never said I "Constantly praise myself or whatever". You never said "I have no respect for him." You never said most of these things. What you said is true, but it doesn't mean I am doing it as much as that is the perception. My goodness. you are fine.

ohh how would you feel about this war meanign for the two of us to spark some naval conflict between the two of us in the kizuna ocean that goes on for like decade or maybe even a bit longer and then for example a huge wave of schizo pirates raiding the ocean(maybe triggered due to rushia yab for example), forcing us to band together to fight this common threat and from having to work together we learn that we don't really hate each other that much and have that be the start of peace between us?

What the fuck happened? I read for two hours and this thread goes to hell?

Anyways,
Alice, Deadbeat, Mepper and KR?; fantastic work on all of your things! I love every word you put into them and they were immersive. I wish i could give better feedback but I spend the last hours and a half reading 46 chapters from a madlad. PP, I also wish I could give you better feedback from earlier chapters which were not that great, you said as much, but I was gripped once I got to act two and I felt like I was reading something from Herodotus at some points. I love your characters. I love the way you tell this story from perspective of bias but also give insights on characters subtly, like Quedlingburg's conversation with Pomerlane and his son getting killed next to him; Furthermore, your care with the maps and situational guides was phenomenal. I felt in the battles myself. I felt the passion of Pomerlane when he hit his wife. I felt the anger of Magnus at his subordinates cocking it up. I felt the control craziness of Kieselbach and the courage of Pomulius standing in front of a hail of fire and not flinching. Probably my favorite thing I have read in my several years on this site. I think it would be a good book if you spent more time on it and published it, honestly. I kneel and I applaud you. I am sorry if I am coming off strong considering I see a conversation about how much power and ego you have, but you deserve praise!

These are probably the kindest words I could ever recieve on my saga, because to be compared to the father of history himself and to see someone enjoy my saga that much touches me personally. When I write this, I write it for the enjoyment of others and to tell an interesting story. Not everyone thinks the way you do, and that is fine by me. Considering I think I can do a lot better in the Saga in general; to hear such wonderful and thoughtful praise of it. I cannot express how thankful I am for this. Thank you, I feel honored by your words!

I think most ego/tripfag/celebrity statuses could be fixed by just making an effort to not reveal yourself as a rep or notable person unless the specific interaction demands it. This, at most, requires a minimum amount of self control and awareness of not including a trip or making yourself known as a specific poster but will do wonders for our reputation and in thread dialouge, I think its a reasonable suggestion

You idiots do this to him. You made yourself a self-fulfilling prophecy!
If you wanted this to stop, then you shouldnt have done it 2 months ago
Panon never wanted to be a celebrity, he just wanted to write military stories
But you idiots kept attacking his stories and every interaction he did
When he take up a trip to avoid that, you idiots accuse tripfagging of destroying the general
