I thought it was pretty obvious if you look how they act with Hollywood movies. Americans only get 25% of the profit from their box office over there and demand changes for movies to be shown there. The most ridiculous one to me was when they banned that Monster Hunter movie because it had a terrible pun of "What kind of knees are these? Chi-knees" in it because of some poem about dirty knees or something they extracted from it instead of it being just a terrible joke. It was just a dumb pun and they killed Monster Hunter's cinema run because of that. Unless you are there to rake in money from terrible gachas you sell to them, working within the parameters of what the Chinese audience wants is like walking through a landmine.
