It’s what we were built for. I don’t serve any other purpose.

Anyways, I was thinking of food within the cult. Obviously people need to eat, especially when so much of the population is eating for two… Like everything else in the cult, the crops are a joint effort between everyone able-bodied enough (meaning people who aren’t currently pregnant/recovering from pregnancy) to maintain the crops like a community garden type situation. Take what you need and give back however you can, whether it’s through volunteering your time or taking food to others ie the pregnant mamas currently occupied with resting and preparing for birth. I envision the crops as one of the first projects for the children to help with as well— like a school garden scenario where older children (5-10) are taken to the crops by the mothers and babysitters and shown how to care for things and tend to crops— weeding, field rotation, watering, all that. I’ll get this in a rentry eventually once I can get some feedback from the other Kindred/Comfy/ anyone really and do more research on the types of crops we’d grow. I know Climatebro has already told me we’re a semitropical climate similar to southern USA, but I’d like to see what neighboring nations grow too.

I'm interested in seeing how each thread would interpret their own catalognaut's abilities in relation to their chuubanite so that cool battle scenes can be written nora.
For a Candy Kingdom catalognaut, I slightly worry that my vision of it is too similar to Mistborn but I imagined them to be able to use candyification to candyify objects into sugar as a base form. This would be both creating weapons from condensed hard sugar and creating reinforced sugar on or underneath armor in order to protect from heavy impacts.
My idea is that when other candies are ingested, those candies can then be used in order to candyify other objects and the properties of those candies carry through. Eat some pixie dust before a fight and now you can make your sword strikes and punches explosive. Eat a bit jolly rancher and you can reinforce your shield in red candy. Maybe Pop Rocks can create a concussive blast that can be used as a sugar powered leap to shoot into the air or maybe they can be used to launch stones with the force of a small cannon.
The downside to this is that mixing certain candies can change the effects that they would have and in some cases, back fire tremendously. Assuming that the catalognaito doesn't outright explode if they mix pop rock and pixie dust, whenever they try to apply the pixie dust to a sword or use the pop rock for a burst forward, they might accidentally blow off their limbs or slam themselves into a tree and shatter their skull.
I feel like there's a few parts that I might be missing here slightly and that might need some more work but I also think the general concept is there. What might your catalognaut's look like, nanora?

That sounds fun as fuck, Lunaito, gives you a lot of room for various powers. Could use molasses powers to trap enemies in sticky messes. Molasses+pop rocks for sticky bombs, the possibilities are endless...
Moriji catalognauts abilities would basically be deadbeatification turned up to 11. The more powerful they are, the harder, stronger, and denser their body gets. They also become extremely attuned to how the concept of Death interacts with the world. At lower levels, they might be able to feel that something just died nearby. A bit more and they'd be able to tell that someone is dying through a lot of their cells dying, like through necrosis, poisons, starvation. At the highest levels, they can take what the ability perceives and estimate how long a person has to live, even including dynamic situations such as fights. It works out to a mild but not 100% accurate form of precog, since it doesn't actually read the future, only computes a result based on the present. For the record, I got the idea without thinking of Death Note shinigamis, though I noticed the similarity afterwards.

Emma!!! I'm going to be basing a lot of this stuff off Guénon and Evola since you can really mold them in a worldbuilding/fantasy scenario!
The Emperor is the figurehead of the state and religion, right? In other words, he is the main symbol of the nation.
Let's go back a bit in time to understand the spiritual implications of this. In Hinduism, there is the notion of Cakravartin, meaning "Wheel-turning King". In summary, it implies the idea of a main symbol, or universal ruler, of all things. According to Evola, that means:
>Its motionless center signifies the spiritual stability inherent in those who are not affected by this stream and who can organize and subject to a higher principle the energies and the activities connected to the inferior nature.
The king/emperor is an organizer of the earthly realm! If you remember the quote from earlier, it was believed that the pharaoh, for an example, was the divine intermediator between the gods and the people.
I almost got carried away and started talking about symbolism when I realized that I still don't know what's the kind of materialistic culture you're going for ;w;

Hello /vtwbg/!
I've been thinking about what kind of mounts would Palkyries ride, and reindeer and moose seem to be the best options barring horses or other fantastical beings. The issue's that I don't think they can carry as heavy a weight as horses, maybe because they weren't domesticated or bred as mounts since early horses had the same issues. Google search suggests that male reindeer can carry ~90 lb on their back, and I assume moose can carry a bit more since they're larger and heavier. I also looked into the weight of smaller plate armour to estimate how heavy a Palkyrie plate armor would be, which comes out as about 25 lb, as a three-quarter plate armor for a 12-year-old Edward VI weights about 18 lb. Because of that, a reindeer carrying a fully-armored Palkyrie but without its own armor would have to weight <65 lb, which correlates to a human that's ~4'6 tall, or about 1' shorter than the 17~18th-century average.
My questions are whether this height and weight would pose significant issues when it comes to fighting, and if it's a fair depiction of /vnug/ given that neither the vtubers nor the thread has anything to do with short/small people, and the possum people itself's already kind of a stretch

Do not worry, we will make certain that your kindred and their children are well fed and that they're born strong and healthy, of course we will need to do frequent check ups and treatments. Many traditional architect belly and breast massages by trained masseurs to prevent growing pains, special ointments applied about the body to encourage strength in the womb and proper development, and of course a fine array of foods and specially crafted milkshakes to treat morning sickness along with aiding in digestion.
We will do well to assure that things go smoothly, no craving shall be dismissed and no desire ignored. By the time one pregnancy is over, your women will be begging for another one to begin.

I think Moose are much bigger than you think, they'd have no issues carrying two hundred pounds on their back. Moose are fucking enormous. A palkyrie could be standard human size and be carried by a moose.
Also, since there have been people living in that region for a long time, it's plausible that moose would have been domesticated in the same way horses were, to make better mounts.

I really wanna see a deadbeat catalognaut in action now, carving through a sea of barbarian raiders and leaving a cemetery in their wake. >>31621207
I think the 300 lb figure's for their pull weight limit, which is relevant for sleds but maybe not for direct riding. War sleds sound kinda cool but I'm not sure if it's practical for fighting since chariots went out of fashion a long time ago

It will probably make it harder to put together herds of moose early in the domestication process, but this seems like something that could be worked out of them in a few generations. Elephants are difficult to keep and raise as mounts, but it is done all the same. A part of domestication includes breeding animals that have fewer antisocial behaviors to make captivity easier.

I guess if the wandering bread dog has Sana chuubanite in it then technically it could count as a catalognaut. Bread dog can use the chuubanite's power to change his direction mid-air like a platformer character and Goomba stomp bad guys. Perhaps you could use this power to use. Though if you're talking about /mans/ then I have nothing. Maybe you could look into /mans/ chuuba's classes and come up with powers that way?

And no it is not gravity manipulation. More like rocket propulsion with energy instead of gas.

I'm not too sure if you can breed solitariness out of animals. I think cats are the only successful ones and they kinda domesticated themselves? I read that Russia has a moose farm that's kinda functional but about half of their moose ended up escaping or disappearing, which I don't know if it's comparable to more ancient domestication attempts
I think we can still make it work but part of me wants to see if being small people would be too problematic both in combat and in thread representation. Thank you for your feedback though!

death sense would actually make for some fucking amazing scenes of tension
>catalogbeat takes a mission to assassinate local tyrant

>spots the tyrant in the gardens and can taste death in the air. From his spot in the trees he's confident that he can bypass the gates with a leap and in a few strides, he could-
>"Oh hi"

My original idea's that Palkyries mostly use something like a bardiche which is kind of a mix between axe and polearm. This came before we know how Palkies look like, although I don't think Palkyries would actually be able to float since they're still humanoid larger than Palkies. I also kinda suspect only being able to float without ways to move around quickly would be more of a detriment when it comes to fighting
I base Palkyrie fighting method somewhat on insect glaives from monhun, which is Liora's weapon of choice in the franchise even though she plans to stick with SnS in her MHR run. It's probably less flourished than in the game so I imagine it'll be both a chopping and thrusting weapon. While I don't intend Palkyries to fly, they're pretty light and nimble with a prehensile tail, so in their native forest environment they can probably sweep around in the air almost like they can fly, at least for a few hits before they get exhausted

Civilization and enlightenment is brought by mentality and society. Moom's chuubanite could be related to the concept of mentality and cooperation I guess?
Passive radiation gives greater mental clarity, intelligence, photographic memory, vigor between people.
Beneficial application is to see visions of technology and knowledge far beyond their comprehension, euphoria, mania.
Malicious application is the opposite. Degradation of psyche, leeching away other's vigor, psionic attacks. Behavioral, cognitive, and emotional manipulation?
With 'civilization' as a theme concept, Moom chuubanite powers feel less one on one and more group/cooperative. A mumei worshipping catalognaut is a support class on crack

Yeah, from the mechanics perspective pure vitubium having the highest VRI makes perfect sense.

>Vitubium and dampeners have a Vitium wave absorption spectrum. All other materials simply don't have an interaction with them.
That is indeed very spicy. I need to think about that a bit, and what it implies for interactions. I like it though.

Do you think we could have each individual nation's chuubanite have a unique absorption spectrum? Because that would be cool. in my opinion. I guess the fact that each nation's chuubanite emits "concept radiation" (the magical radiation) would naturally mean that each nation's chuubanite has a unique emission spectrum, but its not so obvious whether this would mean that they have unique absorption spectrums, as the Vitubium in the chuubanite is essentially the same between all of them, only the magic quanta differ.

There are some other things that are sort of handwaved at the moment, like why can magic quanta exist outside of the vitubium particle inside chuubanite. I thought this could be explained by vitubium creating a few atom-wide area of space where the vitium field is strengthened (think of Vitubium as being an electric pole projecting field-lines around itself), allowing Vitium Entities and magic quanta to exist in the physical realm in areas where the field-lines are dense. This is a bit hand wave-y explanation, but it is an explanation.

The greatest handwave however in my opinion is how exactly does the conceptual information of "fire" turn into a fireball when magic quanta are annihilated. I cant really come up with explanations so this might be the thing we actually need to handwave.

Influencing the soul might be the way. I thought doing mind altering effects would be a bit simpler for nasfaqg chuubanite since the idea was for it to emphasize people's desires, as well qwl cause personalized multi-sensory hallucinations.
I have not seen shin sekai yuri.

Im not averse to the tattoo idea personally, but I wouldnt want to cover a character in them permanently. Do you think you could have small permanent tattoos in key locations on one's body, and during the signing ritual you'd paint the person with temporary glyphs? The small glyphs could be like some sort of "anchor" glyphs on the person, whilst the glyphs that are painted all around the person's body during the signing ritual are the identifying glyphs that (correct me if my thinking is wrong) establish/create/locate a person's individual concept in the conceptual realm.
>DNA
So, blood pacts. Works for me. A person's DNA shall then (if this get canonized) be the (artificial) activator substance. I'm not sure what an "artificial activator substance" is, could you elaborate?
>chuubanite being common enough to be inside most people to some degree is also an expectation
That is entirely doable, and in fact was already in the plans, and the effect has made an appearance in a story already. Nasfaqg chuubanite can exist in gaseous form which means that it could be in the air. Also small amounts of it probably do exist in the soil and water in the serene republic.

Oh, varying absorption spectrums, interesting... As you say, if we consider the Vitubium to be what absorbs the wave, then that would stay the same across the board. But experimentally, Vitubium type X is emitting waves of type X, so a wave of type Y hitting it will interact with not only the Vitubium, but also the type X waves. And this interaction can vary in all sorts of ways depending on the nature of waves X and Y. I think that would affect the absorption spectrum uniquely in some ways, but I need to do some research to give a more quantitative answer. It means that there would be a unique absorption spectrum for each Vitubium type X / wave type Y interaction (though I imagine for practical purposes the interactions would be somewhat predictable in most cases).

Perhaps it could be a bit like a gravitational field, but instead of communicating a force (gravitons) it communicates magic quanta and magic interactions. I think that would work nicely, and as you say result in areas of denser field lines. We'd need to call those something other than "Vitium Fields" though, otherwise it might get confusing.

Ah, you might be right on that. I feel like there is a path; if the magic quanta's concept is contained in the wave's shape, a theoretically infinite amount information can be encoded into it. Then, as the magic quanta annihilates, you could see it as the complex wave being decomposed into its base components through a Fourier Transform. Base components would be "This quanta turns into light of X energy", "This quanta turns into heat in this particle bound to the Vitubium", "This quanta turns into momentum for this particle bound to the Vitubium", and when they're all put together... Fireball? But I agree a measure of handwaving is needed here, especially as the effects get more complex.

My headcanon is that artificial concepts would very specific demands
You have 3 different electric element chuubanites
1 is attached to concept of nature, organic electricity in people
1 is attached to concept of power, electrons in an electric field
1 is attached to concept of mystery, ghostly lightning balls
None of them fits the niche you want
So you program/create your own artificial glyph with the mentioned chuubanite asking for a specific concept. Like say 'organically emitting a strong electrostatic field around your body'
Bam! You just made an artificial concept for 'electrostatic levitation'
But it requires existing natural base concepts, and a complex set of demands

As our concepts would be
>Value, Desire, Numbers, Luck + maybe something else
I really dont know what to make of these for combat. I think nasfaqg catalognauts would work way better as organizers, commanders, informants, advisors, and planners than actual combatants. They could have some level of premonition as their ability.

An extremely powerful nasfaqg catalognaut would probably appear as someone who is never truly "present", as their mind constantly wanders in the conceptual realm, and in places and times that may or may not have been, or may or may not come to be.

You would never see one in the front lines, but during a conflict you'd know you are fighting against one when your opponents seem to have an uncanny ability of always being a few steps ahead of you, as if they knew about your plans before you yourself even thought of them.

In hand to hand combat though they are useless (still catalognauts though so likely more powerful than your average non-magical being), but not a match against the more combat-oriented catalognauts.

Since we dont have an affiliated chuuba, what do our catalognauts look like?

> And this interaction can vary in all sorts of ways depending on the nature of waves X and Y
So how I understand this, is that we wouldnt really have absorption spectrums, but we could have unique interference patterns between different types of chuubanite and vitium waves.
This would potentially open a door for some itneresting chuubanite interactions
>What happens when mori and gura chuubanite are brought close to each other, and placed in a setup that reflects, collects, and then focuses the decay radiation from both of them into a single spot?
>What sort of a magical interference pattern will we see?

>a theoretically infinite amount information can be encoded into it. Then, as the magic quanta annihilates, you could see it as the complex wave being decomposed into its base components through a Fourier Transform.
That works as an explanation, but yeah, we would still need some handwaving, but that is fine by me as long as there isnt too much of it.

What do you think of the concept information particle? It was mentioned as an idea for what the 0 energy magic quanta could be (if such a thing would exist as an approximation for concept radiation).

Just had the dumbest idea, and I need to get it off my chest because it just amused me. The central theme of /mans/ chuubanite/vitubium is Phantasia (fantasy, imagination, and perception), right?
It manifests in causing creatures the populace fears to morph to reflect their perceptions of them, their own mutations come about from believing that they are in part like their 'ancestor heroes'. Similar to how Ork tech in wh40k works, because people believe that it does. A catalognaut would be able to see past their own delusions and other illusions. They'd be able to use beliefs and fears of those around them and either twist or manifest them.
This is all spitballing and shouldn't be taken as fact.

Interference patterns, precisely. Constructive and destructive interference as the two complex waveforms interact. Gura and Mori both have "killing" waveforms in their overall concept, so the concept resulting from the interference would be even killier. But Mori's "Eternal" concept would interfere destructively with Gura's "Youthful" concept, removing both from the resulting waveform. And then parts of the waveform, like Gura's affinity to water, wouldn't interfere with the other waveform; those parts would exist alongside the rest of the resultant waveform.

Hmm, since for all means and purposes this is the field generated around Vitubium particle, maybe Vitubic Field? Thus, a Vitubic Field is a field in the Earthly realm where interaction with the Vitium Field is possible.

Information particle for the 0 energy quanta... To get real nerdy about it all things have energy, even information. A theoretical computer with zero heat losses would still consume energy because it manipulates information. So it would be more like a "minimal energy" quanta, unless there would be a particular interest in them being a 0 energy quanta. I think this would be supported by the system quite well. It could be seen as the chuubanite contained in the creatures influencing their development through magical lamarckian evolution, a bit like deadbeats, and nudging them towards the perceptions of people in the region. Good (almost) afternoon, this is for this thread.
>How will your two nations be different.
The map should be a good answer for you, I talked to PPsenpai yesterday with Alice and we came to the conclusion that the terrain and climate of the different regions will develop different cultures from the base imperial culture in interesting ways. Thoughts? The basis PPsenpai gave us was that the nature of terrain, and climate will cause differences in cultures that even though they may share a lot in common, upon closer analysis you will see major differences. (He said this based on his knowledge in Cultural Anthropology and gave us Appalachia vs. Tidewater as an example.)

Traditionally, tariffs are a pretty small part of a government's revenue, they're normally used more as a political and geopolitical tool to influence entities affected by the tariffs, such as the countries you trade with and the industries in your country. If they're a significant part of your budget, in most countries that would mean you're hurting your economy by limiting international trade artificially. Trade does not make money for the government directly, unless the government owns nationalized industries and sells goods to other countries (For example, our Québécois hydroelectricity). That will usually be supplementary income at best.
International trade makes money for the government indirectly, because trade makes money for its citizens, and the citizens pay taxes. Taxes are the main way governments make money, and that's why they're evil.
If the two countries share a fleet, it would be expected that they both contribute to its funding using their income. IRL, it's rare that two different countries would fully share a military branch though, because the chain of command would fray into two paths at the top, which is usually not ideal for centralized militaries. It's a more common setup for two countries to simply each have their fleet and collaborate closely. Oh, I guess the two chains of command could link up at the Emperor's level though.
But yeah, money's mostly coming from taxes, and unless there is a specific arrangement, I think each country would be paying for its own equipment and personnel. If one country has all the equipment and personnel and doesn't like paying that much, it might ask something else from the other country to make it more even.

Also, I'm not Triangle, I'm other Deadbeat!

Like a Magllaecian being able to take on and wield the full six armed Glove Cloak, mirroring Magni and going beyond the records non-catalognauts have ever reached of 4. Like, taking on traits that their respective people see as stuff of legends. I'll have to go back to the drawing board for how it manifests for the others beyond just going Royal Family+, Literally Bran Stoker's Dracula, and Big Furry Brutes

Well, Thank you Deadbeatnasfaq(?) senpai!!!! I did hear that the US relied on Tariffs for most of their income during the 19th century. To clue you in on the fleet, our nation is technically one but it is split into two autonomous shogunates and the Imperial Navy is seperate from them because it was formed as a respond to defeats against the Watamelons and Ahoy because of lack of coordinate. PPsenpai kind of summarized this well in his suggestion.
>>Commander
Good question, since a Shogun is a Commander in Chief himself. I understand that neither Shogun is a traditional Shogun but rather the commander in chiefs of one half. I think you could have the Imperial Navy made as unified command with a good reason from history. Perhaps the Imperial Navy came about because of how the disorganized command of two at sea resulted in defeat after defeat against Watamelon and others. In this sense, the Imperial Navy is not under the command of either Shoguns, so you and emma can use it how you wish for stories. Also add this interesting idea of multiple admiralities, one in the West (not as in the Western Shogunate as much as Western Seas) and Eastern Admiralty. That would add the possibility of interesting doctrinal differences between, say the Eastern Fleet which fights phase and Western Fleet which fights ahoy and watamelons.
So our concept is that the navy gets funds from both shogunates for its purpose since they both need it but they don't have much control over how it works given the agreement that was made when it was formed. It's technically under the Emperor but something like a Shogun of the Sea directly in command. Does this make sense?

My brain is starting ot get fried a little bit, too much chuubanite, so I'll have to stop for a bit im also going to touch grass for a few hours

I think the interference pattern ideas have potential to be pretty fun. You could probably make "artificial concepts" this way, as the interference pattern would exist in the vitium field as well.

In this particular case, but arranging mori and gura chuubanite in the right way, you could construct a localized "killing" concept and a bunch of others that lasts for as long as the mori and gura chuubanite have juice in them. Not sure if the wave would be strong enough to be a proper concept, but it would at the very least be a weak "shadow" of a concept. No idea what effects this could have, probably nothing in real world unless something really specific is done.

>another field
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO im into that.

I know there would be some energy in it but 0-energy particle sounds extremely chuuni to me and i like it.
A "minimum energy quanta" could work better. Or, it could be classified as a completely new particle.
>Perhaps that would be the main form of magical radiation emitted by chuubanite that is not particularly active.
precisely my idea. Thought it could work as a sort of concept information carrier particle.

Yeah, to elaborate, the thread differences come mainly down to several things.
>Male thread is obviously male chuubas
>Not only JP but EN, ID and KR males in Nijisanji
>Both share many similarities, as Males is sort of a breakoff from 2434. We also are pretty much sister threads.
I think the concept of what we are calling now Naichijin immigrated into the West (which may be less populated to reflect this demand) for such things as mining will lead to syncretization of beliefs while maintaining the thread culture. EN chuubas are discussed in along the lines of our thread's culture, rather than the horniness of EN generals and Nenmen. PPsenpai explained this is likely because Nijisanji Males thread has its own strong culture and knowing that we had growing pains in calming the horny down before they adapted, it makes sense.

Either way, as he has said, the main source of income into national budgets at this point in time is taxation. However, the question is always what is taxed. Tariff, for example, is a tax on imported goods, thus putting financial burdens on your own citizens for buying foreign goods, and making them less competitive than local goods. You can also tax exports, land, have direct or indirect taxes... the devil is in the details. If you still have the feudal system in place, then the Shogunate could reasonably make money from the crownlands, owned by the state.
Regarding trade and commerce - it can provide income in two ways. Either directly or indirectly. Directly, it'd provide influx of cash by taxing imports or exports, but this has a side-effect of reducing the attractiveness and volume of trade, thus slowing down growth. There are situations in which those kind of taxes /can/ be beneficial, for example if your own country is getting out-competed by price and quality and is thus killing the national industry.
Indirectly, trade and commerce generates wealth. Properties, development of cities, enrichment of the individuals and thus different spending patterns/increased demands for the (easily taxable) luxury goods all generate massive income in the long-term. Different countries can have different strategies for tapping onto the wealth given by economic activities: for example, /nasfaqg/ is all-in on economic growth, freeing the market and collecting taxes primarily just on the Stock Exchange, the activity of which of course corresponds to how much wealth people have to throw around.

Thank you!!! I loved the idea because I don't know if this was mentioned but he said that the East might be more traditionalist in naval thought while the west would be more innovative. The story potential has been unlocked for why Louis d'Avranches might cause a lot of problems for the conservative Eastern Fleet when he goes to fight with Phase. It's really interesting to me. We also discussed the elephant in the room, being forestry given how much our religion is focused on being one with nature and after Emma's research, we realized that such concepts as Forest management would arise to meet this new challenge as the Tokugawa Shogunate did IRL, along with importing wood from nations like Pomerania and maybe haha v7 or nenmen.

That's true, the US did make a lot of money from tariffs as a percentage of their revenue! But something to note here, the USA had no income tax during that period https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/e0/Federal_taxes_by_type.pdf/page1-800px-Federal_taxes_by_type.pdf.jpg which is why tariffs were such a large part of their income. Empires tend to have more taxes than State confederations.
I think that checks out, the Imperial navy is basically out of the hands of the shoguns and fully in imperial control, and the Empire levies asks the shogunates for money to pay for it. This would give a ton of political and geopolitical power to the Empire proper, as navies are very important.
Also, I'm not nasfaqdeadbeat either! /morig/ Deadbeat kek.

Meta wise, the West would have distinct cultures in localities (cities are likely the same across the Empire, we detailed this in our main rentry as being a problem) and in particular the syncretization of religion would be more widespread in the west, leading to interesting results. Like you would find Kindred in the West that are not like the Kindred in the Holy Kingdom but also not like the base JP fanbases either. I set up a mechanism that allows for other writers to come in and write about a Chuuba they like in the Shinto style. Also another thing about our (Both of ours) nation is that there isn't much nationalism as we think of it, but more connections to communities, and families. This will be manifested much more in isolated areas of the west in particular.
This might help you
>Nationwide, within both Shogunates, society is rather decentralized and localized towns and settlements that formed around shrine for individual Kami. As such, the nation is rather unique for a global power in that it retains much of its feudal nature and communal nature. Natually, this also leads to vast differences between the metropolitan and rural areas of the two realms. A general rule is that most of the major cities are located on the coastline, along rivers, or at trade hubs. Another rule is that the further inland you get, the more rural and traditional society becomes. This leads to an interesting dynamic between the bulk of the population, located in the rural interior, and the cosmopolitan cities.

>The cultural gap between these two entities is on that is rising over the years and is causing internal tension in both realms. Peasants, feudal lords, local artisans and conservative Kannushi are growing increasingly restless at the perceived injustices and dishonour that comes from the rising importance of the cosmopolitan cities of the realms. Peasant revolts have happened on numerous times already, but it is just the surface of a deeper problem, that being that the traditional way of life of these people and their beliefs are perceived to be under attack by the wickedness that comes from the cities.

I'm doing a history degree in Uni and this is something that comes up a lot.

For example Irrigation based societies tend to be really really poor in warfare since irrigation farming makes the farmer weak and prone to parasite infection, as well as being very vulnerable to control via cutting of water source, making the peasantry tend to be very weak and easy to oppress, so other than the (very small) noble class there aren't many people who can give resistance. This is why Egypt has such a humiliating military history
The current Egyptian government is the first time Egypt has had ethnically Egyptian rulers since Cleopatra (an ethnic greek) came to power

On the other hand people in areas where hunting is widely practiced, especially in colder climates, people tend to be better fighters since hunting teaches a lot of skills useful to warfare.

Anyway. I gotta go. nice seeying you lot.

/morig/ are unityfags prime. Species, Culture and Religion don't need to match. I would say religion is a bit more important than the others, as you need to at least respect the worship of Mori to be welcome. So if your religion forbids this, you'll have issues. If they can do that, people from any species and from anywhere can immigrate. Borders are open, don't even have to take a test or nothin'.
Because of their highly magical nature, I think catalognauts would be heavily regulated by the Goddess Faithful. Those guys would nurture only home-grown catalognauts of infallible loyalty and Mori-type affinity, probably. I guess I should ask before I start getting too indepth, is being a catalognaut something that you're born with/have to be born with the potential for or is it something anyone technically could achieve? Is it heritable at all? Because my ideas so far would be (beyond what's already been mentioned)

>Maglleaci: Needs to achieve the fourth arm and realize that their body can still handle more, becomes a bonafide catalognaut on achieving their 6th one. This would be beneficial not only for multitasking, but for the fact that each Cloak Hand can be enchanted with glyphs. The people as a whole have taken on spider-like traits to imitate their Ancestral Hero's many arms and to symbolize the trickster aspect.

>Vestons: Certain noblemen have a much greater affinity for the 'dark gift', unlocking their catalognaut abilities as they receive it (just remembered I need to add something about that to the lore archive, or make a story of it). They might be able to use sanguimancy to some degree and partially transform themselves into something more fitting for a hunter in the night, during night at least. The people as a whole are split in to, with Thralls being the closest to ordinary humans on the island. Them and the Vestiges represent two sides of their Ancestor Hero, the outdoorsy hiker, golfer, camper, and green hand for the thralls and the more scholarly role went to the Vestiges. Being shut away in their duties made them quite pale, akin to the tales of their Ancestor Hero. Both Thralls and Vestiges begin to believe that the Vestiges are thus closer to Vesper and begin to manifest more of the physical appearance associated with the totally not a vampire... Gonna need some help on where to fit in the dark gift here though which manifests physically as purple eyes rather than the typical red for vestiges along with several smaller enhancements.

>Axols: I'm going to lend the idea Cunt gave way back here, with it manifesting through an Axol with the potential experiencing several near-death experiences through either fighting or other physically strenuous activities. Beyond the abilities I talked about first that all of them would have access to, the Axol catalognaut wouldn't recieve much in the way of special abilities or magic. They'd simply grow to an immense size by human standards, with incredible strength and durability yet also retain a level of speed and dexterity that you wouldn't expect from someone their size. For the people as a whole, the men try to emulate the man who is said to have taken on Schizo Trolls with his bare hands and the canines that are both friend of man and manage to survive in the hostile lands in the north as wolves. The women meanwhile encapsulates more what their society considers ideal based on their Ancestor Hero's tastes, yet retain the strength and the hardworking yet socially relaxed nature that the men have.

>Regii: The Royal Family was founded by a catalognaut and as far as history is concerned at least, it is the only place you'll find people born with the power of a catalognaut. They encapsulate the dominating nature of their legacy, able to issue commands that only the mentally strongest of those it is directed towards would have a chance of resisting. A low class/level catalognaut would be fairly limited in how complex or lasting of a command they could issue. Think like the command spell in DnD. For the people as a whole, their history is clouded in mystery as little to no records were kept of their past prior to meeting the other clans, and what little does exist is either vague or locked away for royal eyes only. It is said however that they were saved from the depths of hell by a blue haired Hero, seeking to redeem them.
aaand I went indepth anyway, lmao.

>>31643275
/mans/ is diverse enough that it's fairly tolerant of all three. Both of natives adopting certain parts of other cultures or starting to follow a different ancestor hero than that of the people they belong to, and of foreigners in general. That said, proselytization of foreign faiths and apostasy are both incredibly taboo as the faith is partly what gives the nation its identity and legitimacy. Undermining it would be tantamount to attempting to undermine the nation and is tried under treason. This usually leads to public hanging.

So, this is secondary knowledge, /meat/bro is the one who came up with the concept, but generally speaking catalognautness is not available to everyone, and is not hereditary. The goal being that catalognauts stay rare and nations don't do breeding programs to get tons of catalognaut super soldiers. You can see it as whenever a person is born, a million sided dice rolls, and if the right number comes up, this person has the potential to be a catalognaut. Then, the catalognaut abilities can be developed in whatever manner the thread sees fit, I think. Mind you, none of this is set in stone and the catalognaut system is still in development by /meat/bro. Paragraphs, correct me if I got any of that wrong.
All four of those paths check out to me, I especially like the dual nature of Vestons... I wonder if this results in any sociological tensions. Axols are right up my alley too, I'm very much a STR build kind of guy.

Maybe! Did you have something in mind? Like what would happen if a vestige behaved like a thrall or vice versa? Also I was trying to make a 'quality build' for Axols, with a slight emphasis on str (just like Axel's character sheet from debut)

Oh, well any time humans have multiple classes of people, interesting dynamics arise. Here, with the Vestiges being considered closer to Vesper, I could see them being treated with some reference, a bit like Hinduism's brahmins. Yeah. Catalognaut isnt bred. It's chaos theory. The only conditions you could predict is that if there are increased Schizo activities the conceptual realm might throw a bone and allow a couple more to be born this week. And even the it's random. Jannies at war with schizos in Holo? Three more catalognauts are born in VSJ for some reason.
In a high fantasy anime setting these guys would be the equivalent of heroes, casting fancy-schmancy spells.
But in this low fantasy world where magic is a practical tool, theyre seen as assets, walking chuubanite recharge stations or living computers. Ranging from generals to mentats to extremely manipulative spies and diplomats.
You won't see them pull a 'Bone of My Sword' and create a hell powered gigacannon. Most extreme is that they are able to dial up a chuubanite's potential to is absolute. Such as accelerating natural processes to the point you can mutate cells and use them like vines.

They're not mutual.
The majority of magic users are still regular individuals. Just plug a chuubanite into a sword or arrowhead and done.
Catalognauts are unique because they are a walking conduit to the Catalog, hence the name.
A tap/outlet for Vitubium field and the Conceptual realm. A direct powerline. Like how chuubanite has vitubium particles in them and gradually receives magic quanta, these people have vitubium in their flesh, bone, blood, everything. Constantly attached to the catalog and receiving magic quanta.
The difference compared to normal magic users is that they don't need to plug in a battery into a sword or musket. Because they are already a direct powerline.

Ah, alright. I suppose that's an avenue that I definitely can explore as the country opens up and outside ideas of what's considered fair might lead to some thrall demand recognition as embodying an equally important aspect of their ancestor. How that plays out... We'll have to wait and see. Right now there's a big enough threat lurking in the lands that their priorities lies elsewhere as long as they are safe and well fed.
>>31646853
Does this mean the criteria of being born within a certain circle being a requirement isn't valid? I guess I could simply say that non royal catalognauts among the regii are either struck from history or quickly adopted and married into the line to 'keep it connected to the Hero' while any Thrall potential catalognauts are blanket denied the required trigger to unlock their abilities due to not being of the noble class.

Oh and part of /risu/ lore.
So far I've seen that Risu's chuubanite seems to improve growth. Like the trees growing extremely fast and the Risuners adapting to the environment as they grow.
Maybe for Risu chuubanite catalognauts, their adaptation and acclimatization is very fast.
In just a day in the desert they have already shed excess fur, have more water retention, and become jerboa like.
In just a day of hiking their claws grew longer and flexibility gets better.
Attrition is not a problem for them.
These are passive powers.
Active powers? Maybe something to do with squirrel physiology and being a trickster? And also storing gems in their mouths to use gem magic.
Could see them employed as assassins

Not necessarily, since it is fairly broad. People with the same culture can hold different values while practicing the same tradition. Earlier? Yes I did. Regarding that, I think you should do some research upon Shintoism and how the Emperor fits in the picture. It's not quite in line with the Western nor the Indian line of thought as this involves naturally Confucian, Tao, Zen and Shinto thought into what his role is. I made some of the aspects of the Emperor becoming a commoner as a nice touch on how I think it should be, but him being the celestial emperor is much more in Shinto thought than anything.

Hmmmm yes I think I've said that before in the last thread but I don't think you saw it!!! No problem though!! Let me try to explain it!! You maybe got inspired by Zhu Yuanzhang, the first emperor of the Ming!! He was a commoner that rose to the top while fighting the Yuan!!
I gave hinduist examples just to explain the so-called "natural order" of religion. If you look into ancient asian religions, you'd see the spiritual implications in religious roles: the Chinese Emperor had a Divine Mandate, Shintoism had obvious Confucian influences in the spiritual role of the Shogun, both in Minzoku and Kokka Shinto (Although the latter wouldn't be formally introduced until the 19th century)!!

Ok, so I am bringing this conversation here. It's on the matter of trade. Alice believes that we should conduct trade as two separate entities because of the meta reasons you should know already, and that ports under a shogun should be taxed by him.

I disagree because I think that the Meta reasons aren't that valid considering the concept that for simplicity, it would be better this way and furthermore for non-Meta reasons, yes the Shoguns would get a cut of the tariffs but I think the Imperial Navy would as well; and furthermore, the nation would want to keep a similar trade policy because say alice has a lower tariff on apples than I do; WIth the way things work out, apples could be sold to alice at a higher cost so she makes profit off it when she trades them with me. It makes no sense in my mind for the Shoguns to not cooperate with each other in regard to trade because of this and that such tension would lead to major problems.

Also to compliment what I said!!!
>'To the emperor was also attributed a "solar” principle, though with a confusing transposition of the feminine principle: his descendence came from the goddess Amaterasu Omikami.
>On this basis the act of governing and of dominating formed one thing with the cult—the term matsurigoto signifies both government and "pursuit of religious affairs”; in the context of Shintoism, loyalty—unwavering faithfulness to the ruler —assumed a religious meaning and was at the basis of its ethics. Any reprehensible, low, or criminal deed was not thought of as a transgression of an abstract, "social” law, but rather as a betrayal, an act of disloyalty, and a disgrace: there were no "guilty" people in Japan, but rather "traitors,” or people without honor.'

Hello squirrel friend. Though I can't call you friend anymore can I? Anyway don't worry about windmills if you're not growing wheat or corn. Windmills can be used for pumping water to the semi-arid south. However hand pumps can do the job. If you want to know how to build hand pumps then ask Kronies.

I'm saying Kronies would have an advantage with plumbing because of living underground. But if you can get other traders to comission hand pumps then that'd work too. You can even make pumps out of wood if you know how.

Commodus Chapter III
ommodus and the Marquis are headed to Silvanus. Commodus, being a tribal chief for one of the border tribes scarcely knew what national politics were like. The farthest he ever went was to Panrong and it would be a good resting spot after the long march. Though they hadn't known each other for a year yet, Commodus had felt a close connection with Maumigny. Both were men of honor, and warriors at heart; though Commodus wasn't sure how much of a real warrior the Marquis actually was. In some ways, them being polar opposites made them great friends. The curious and turbulent man that was Commodus was complimented by the mild-manner and intelligent Marquis.

As they approached Panrong, the two were in a conversation about the clock people. These assholes had violated Risu's independence two years ago and had caused quite the culture shock for Risuners, who had never seen anything like them before. Commodus had never heard of them but like many of his fellow southern chiefs, wasn't too fond of these invaders turned "friends". He made it clear to the Marquis that he couldn't trust them any farther than he could throw 'em. But what did the opinion matter of the border chief matter to the rest of the nation. Dumbasses, what are these fucking Clocks doing for actual problems in my area. Now I hear they are friends with the Cannibals that raid us, are we fucking retards?

Suddenly, in the distance, Commodus could hear commotion. He dismounts and approaches a tree cospe overlooking Panrong FUCKING SHIT He signals the Marquis to come take a gander with him. You have to be fucking kidding me, how incompetent are we to allow these goatfuckers to actually reach and enter Panrong. What the Fu-

"Well, I see the issue. Let's waste no time boys, time to give these barbarians the sword. FOR THE QUEEN AND REINE!"

Commodus didn't even have a chance to see what the Marquis was doing before the Marquis and his horsemen, some 100 of them, were down in the fields approaching Panrong. Is this fucker insane? There is no way that you can beat these Ghazis if our defenses could stop them. I better mount up and prepare to save his ass

The Oiseaux Hussars descended onto the Ghazis immediately and it took no longer than 15 minutes for them to wipe them off the face of the earth with the help of citizens of Panrong. Commodus could only watch with sheer amazement to see what had happened. 500 of those towelheads, all cut down in 15 minutes. What the hell was this kind of magic. He dismouted to find the Marquis giving a speech to the citizens of Panrong.

"Risuners. Citizens of Panrong, I am happy that we managed to come in time to remove these Barbares from your ville."
Commodus started laughing knowing that the Risuners didn't know what he was saying with his mixed language This fucking madlad with his mixed speech. "But I also thank you for showing great bravoure to keep your own libertés safe from these vile racaille ! Salut Risu, Salut Reinu, Salut Brotherhood!" Better translate this for the Risuners

Commodus translates it and he concludes with "This man, our savior is the Marquis of Maumigny from our greatest friends, the Oiseaux! Let us give him a proper celebration for his actions today fellow Risuners!" The crowd erupts into celebration. Women throw themselves at the Marquis and the hussars, some being taken back for sex with these foreign men while others being politely rejected. The Marquis is given a crown of branchs by Prisca the Elder, the highest symbol of honor that can be bestowed on someone by a Village Elder. Later on the Marquis, Commodus and Prisca celebrate in a local tavern. Commodus asks the Marquis about how he was able to pull it off, and the two spend a good 3 hours talking about this thing called "tactics", much to the boredom of Prisca who slips out.

After a nice rest and more sex, Commodus, the Marquis and company set off once more for Silvanus. This madman, I don't yet grasp these tactics you speak of, but do we ever need them if we want a free Risu, free from the towelheads, cannibals and clocks alike.
>>31661700
Makes no difference, Oiseau know the way things work above ground, which matters to Risuners.

So here's a thought, how about you fucking stop thinking of Risuners as a single entity? There is absolutely 0 chance that each and every single individual within a country likes the same thing, specially when you have jack shit for propaganda. Risuners on the south would care more for the meppers(or whatever the fuck they are called) while the ones on the eastern shore would care more about the kronies, because that is where their spheres of influence are. And similarly, the risuner tribes at the northern border with /towa/ would most likely not give a flying fuck about either of them, as they would care more about their immediate neighbor.

this specific example is one among a larger trend i have been seeing. if i am wrong, please correct, and while there are truths in the statement, such as the fact that risuners would likely have different ideas from each other, this doesn’t acknowledge the way information and culture spreads and evolves in a realistic way. there are two extremes people tend to take. i think the terms are positivism or epistemological nihilism, but idk. both are wrong. you don’t need an active propaganda institution to create strong, cultural beliefs among the masses within a community. while the idea that some would be for /mep/ and against /inf/ is valid, there might not be a large enough faction to prevent /risu/ as a nation from standing completely with /inf/ and against /mep/.
with that said, the relevance of my comment is in the fact that this turned into a discussion about oldfags. if not for the fact that people are thinking about this as “poor innocent newfag vs established greedy oldfag” it wouldn’t have been brought up. if that is the case, i suggest we consider the counter-position that thus far seems to lack any support.

Its completely normal.
A risuner from, say, sabatangan (heck, probably just another risuner from panrong or the surrounding areas) would probably feel baffled as to why Commodus thinks this way.

i agree warsuner should be able to write characters like that, but they should be a very rare exception. when others brought up the old v. new i was more invested personally. i just see a lot of newfag advocacy and almost no oldfag advocacy. i think oldfags have certain rights as people who come here earlier that newfags lack, including canonization rights. i’ve seen people advocate the wanton removal of those rights on the grounds that it could potentially limit newfags, and that this is somehow a problem. i agree we should change things from time to time, but that doesn’t mean contradicting established canon on the grounds that oldfags are just gatekeeping, and shouldn’t have a say over their own lore that they worked to establish.

The reason behind this is to make clear to them that they are not doing shit wrong because one schizo targets them. And what rights are you refering to? Friend, I’m aware Luxuria is Latin. I’m the one who named it and cited it as a Latin word then— I also picked it because it’s a little similar to Luxiem. “Vox” is Latin, “Akuma” is Japanese. Vox was most active/powerful during the Sengoku era. I’m incorporating Japanese names and architecture (ie tatami floors) into Luxuria to represent the cultists’ obsession with upholding the image of Vox’s heyday, as something Comfy and I have talked about multiple times is the different groups of Kindreds’ assertion that they are the “true” followers of Vox and that any other form of worship is blasphemy. I did actually! I loved it! it reminds me a lot of "To Build a Fire" by Jack London, which is a very high compliment from me considering that that's a story a really really like. The wrestling with faith through out the story gives the whole thing this really strong emotional tension.

The prose of the story is really really good as well. A personal complaint I have about a lot of writing here is that a lot of it is just a literal description, with little or not use of imagery, but this story has a lot of very interesting descriptive writing, such as the repeated allusions to predator and prey imagery.
by the way there's nothing wrong if you story has no flowery imagery in it. There are plenty of good books that are just narrative set to paper. Most writing in the SCP mythos, a collective writing project I hold immense respect for, is no thrills just narrative. I'm just a massive prose autist who likes it when a sentence on its own is interesting to read.

I don't either actually. War is kind of like sex in that its that the build up to it, or the possibility of it, is in many ways far more interesting to write about than the thing itself.

I think the point I'm really trying to dig at is that there's a lot more interesting writing you can do if your nation has an opposing faction to struggle against. For example I doubt the Metal Cock and Meat Clocks would be very interesting if Victor just happily when along with everything Hilde suggested without any internal conflict.

Alright. Guess it just feels a little daunting to tackle writing about riots/rebellions in a way that sounds logical, especially since they would more likely happen in the current year in-verse if anything. I have ideas but- I guess I'll just try it and let you guys tell me what I mightve done silly. First though, I've got more baseline lore to hammer out... At a slow but hopefully steady pace.

that was the biggest example, there have been a few others but i can't remember who they involved, and at least a few of them i didn't say anything on. i remember getting into some conflict with retroanon about how souls worked within the magic setting, which was why i came up with the idea of artificial concepts in the first place. i never said newfags shouldn't influence lore, and i even said i was fine with what was happening with warsuner, but every time these problems are brought up, even the ones that get resolved, the idea that a newfag can radically change someone else's lore and it's gatekeeping to prevent them from doing so has never been properly addressed, such that people can view the situation with roseanon and newbud in the way you describe. "both sides were in the wrong" when the only mistake roseanon made was in how he communicated an otherwise perfectly justifiable concern.
it would be unfair to roseanon to restart that particular discussion since they did resolve it, but it would have been resolved if he decided to leave forever and let newbud wage war against his original creation unimpeded. furthermore, though we joke about taking over /nasa/ lore from cunt since he betrayed /nasa/ and didn't let /nasa/rep continue his own lore, it's always portrayed in a way that would suggest that it would be fine to take over the lore of a nation against the will of the rep, when the real reason is because the same logic that transferred /nasa/rep's responsibilities to cunt when /nasa/rep gave cunt the role before his self-imposed lore-break would apply to cunt when he literally said, in his menhera state, that anyone could take over for his duties as a rep. we shouldn't frame that in that way. we should frame it like this. if someone wants to add to the lore of their thread in a way that doesn't contradict previous canon, that's always fine. if they want to do something that does, they need to discuss it with the others who are responsible for that lore, especially if that includes the one who made it in the first place.
it is newfags who should adapt their lore to the canon established by oldfags, not the other way around, and if an oldfag specifically says not to do something, and a newfag does it anyways, the blame should be, if not completely, then at least chiefly put on the newfag for going against established convention without so much as trying to make it work with the oldfags. everyone else seems to be against me on this, and though i believe my position to be as reasonable and accommodating as possible, it seems the majority still disagree strongly with it. i don't know why. the responce i always get is people accusing me of speaking in bad faith, or something there in, with the occasional responce that boils down to "just write" but nobody seems to acknowledge any of the actual points i am making, but fine, if i am a schizo for wanting canon to be respected, and claiming that oldfags, in so far as they are the first to make establishable canon, have the right to set the design of their own canon, as well as the expectation that their canon will be respected, then so be it.

She didnt know what half of his lore was because he doesnt have it down. Roseanon is a controlfreak and is hard to work with. Newbud is a bitch too. Thats a situation that ends badly 100% the time and I dont see how it is revelant to anything about new vs old when we have more than enough examples of the opposite being true. Nasa shit i wont touch given how ridiculous it all is. Where are your concerns coming from? The rosebud shit was last month bro. Mepper hasnt fucked anyones lore at all.

I think the main issue is that you're using the word "oldfag", which has become a bit of a buzzword in these parts. Your points are otherwise pretty reasonable, and I agree. I think it's fine for mepper to write about one or some risuners who hate /inf/, but I think given Commodus is basically the only voice for risuners in that story, the impression that he speaks for all of them is there when he says he hates /inf/. Other Risuners in the story displaying the variety of opinions the non-hivemind of /risu/ would be a good solution I think.

I think you have to realize that the rosebud affair was never going to turn out well. Neither of them, imo, are good at working with others since, with respect, Rosebro doesnt have his lore in an easy to understand and access fashion and Rosemaiden is a heavy drinker. While in principle I agree, i also do not believe this merits much of a discussion when I can personally point out 20 times in recent weeks when Newfags have adapted and worked with old lore or even oldfags like alice (kek) were willing to tear shit down to build something better.

I agree with you Panon, 100%. I do want to say I wrote a story that heavily featured Rosebutas, and I had to have multiple discussions with Rosebud to hash things out, including to get information that wasn't in the lore docs at the time, and he was never anything other than helpful and generous with detailed answers to my questions, I really enjoyed collaborating with him. He is helpful, I respect him a lot too. Part of the problem is availability with him (comfy more) that can cause things to happen with less patient anons. That situation put two personalities that cant work together together. I can work with Rosemaiden because i am available more and more loose with my lore despite being a control freak myself. Rosebro is better with patient anons.

>oldfags like alice (kek) were willing to tear shit down to build something better.
i was never against that, and i see it as an expectation that newfags adapt to what exists. as someone who had the problem of having a lot of lore that wasn't easily accessible, as well as someone who has been misunderstood because others see tone before they understand content (trying to speak in brevity, not sure if anyone would take offense to this) so i had a lot of sympathy for roseanon. when i saw that literally nobody was taking roseanon's side, even after he apologized and was kicked while he was down, it didn't sit right to me.
it was only after i said something that the conversation started to shift, but people only recognized that newbud was in the wrong, too. i don't think roseanon did anything wrong there, with the exception of a few perfectly understandable mistakes that were made in a time of urgency. i think it could have been avoided if newbud discussed it with him a bit before writing an entire entry on something that he said goes against his entire representation of his culture.
>>31680307
>Where are your concerns coming from?
the framing. as i said previously, the only reason i am bringing it up now is because other people brought up this idea. i don't see it as gatekeeping to preserve canon, though as >>31680361 said, i think the use of terms like old/newfag might be causing confusion. when i say oldfags have rights that newfags don't, i mean people who write the initial canon have the right for their work to be considered canon since there is no other lore to contradict, and that this is a right that people who come in later do not share. what i said here >>31671848
>while the idea that some would be for /mep/ and against /inf/ is valid, there might not be a large enough faction to prevent /risu/ as a nation from standing completely with /inf/ and against /mep/.
was in response mostly to >>31665432, but that was the only specific thing about that specific subject besides the framing that i really had a problem with. i even said i think what warsuner did was fine, just that it should be counterbalanced by the fact that /risu/ is supposed to be close friends with /inf/. if the one who established that piece of lore changed his mind completely or stood firmly that not a single member of /risu/ would stand for /mep/ and against /inf/ then so be it, but the expectation is that they will accommodate each other. i don't think i exhausted my response, but page 10.
