Actually it might be a good idea. If you put a hardware compressor between your mic preamp and audio interface you can reduce audio latency (which can be 10ms or more after going through your VST host or whatever you're using) and reduce load so your voice doesn't go wonky when your computer gets overloaded by some shittily coded CPU-heavy game

I doubt that a VST plugin will shit itself once CPU load becomes too much and if so just prioritize the compressor over the game.
I am not arguing that a HW Compressor wouldn't make sense, just that a SW Compressor can be obtained for free.
But a lot of Vtuber are technical illiterates and can't comprehend simple tech shit.

My VST plugins aren't doing that much and they still pop occasionally - I'm running Audeze Reveal + Canopener Studio for headphones and I can't push the audio buffer below 10ms without getting audio artifacts. Who knows what kind of delay they're already dealing with, but I have a feeling adding 10ms on top of it will be too detrimental to the audio sync with the vtuber model.
